The location is pretty good, close to good restaurants, attractions and shops
Almost everything is broken. The AC is barely working, set at the lowest temp and keeps running, just making the room not hot. The hot water of the shower will be hot for 5 min, and slowly cool down during my shower, and then get a bit warmer. The window, someone opened the window during cleaning, and I could close it, has to call for staff to push it really hard to close it. And the room is not clean at all.

Die ganze Ausstattung, ist mir zu alt. Viel Stoff: schwere Doppelvorhänge, überall Teppiche und Tapeten und Kissen, auch Stühle mit schwerem Stoff. Fürs Auge ist es schön aufeinander abgestimmt, aber wirkt staubig und dunkel.
Die Angestellten, die die Eierspeisen zubereiten, sind Träumer! Wir warteten oft sehr lange auf unsere Bestellung.
While the hotel itself is beautiful and well located, our stay was ultimately overshadowed by a very disappointing experience at breakfast.
The female breakfast chef spoke quite rudely to our daughter after misunderstanding her order. What upset us even more was the lack of a meaningful response afterwards, despite us sharing our concern with the hotel.
To be fair, one member of the staff, Sandrine, did try to help and was kind in her approach, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the overall handling of the situation still left us disappointed.
For families traveling with children, the attitude of the staff matters just as much as the hotel itself. Because of this experience, I believe families with children should think twice before booking this hotel.

DO NOT STAY ON THE FIFTH (TOP) FLOOR.
Booked a superior room overlooking Place Bellacour -- well-appointed room on the fifth floor with large windows and good views. The room was clean, spacious, quiet, and a few steps from the Metro.
However, the hotel had no air conditioning in my room or in the hallways on the 5th floor! It wasn't just weak... it literally did not exist. No matter what setting you used on the thermostat, no air came out of the vents. I had family staying in rooms on the 2nd floor, and the air conditioning worked fine there...just not the 5th floor rooms!
This stay was during the May 2026 heat dome, and temperatures were above 30 C. Completely unacceptable for a "5-star" hotel charging 5-star prices to advertise having air conditioning and to not deliver during a heat wave.

“İç avlu” aslında apartman boşluğu idi. Klima sistemi çok kötü idi. Isıtma veya soğutma yappmadığı gibi bir de çok gürültülü idi. Banyo da küvet kenarı çok yüksekti ve küvete girip çıkmak bizim gibi yaşlı insanlar için cambazlık gerektiriyordu.
Amazing location and a beautiful hotel!
The room was really beautiful with a very comfortable bed and pillows but the wallpaper in the hall of my room was somewhat dirty, which slightly spoiled the experience of this nice place.

The hotel was exceptional, fantastic central location with the iconic square and all the venues around it, just a short walk away. Room was generous in size and comfort, and the staff where very helpful and friendly with an Aussie who could not speak the local language well. Love Lyon and will definately return to Le Royal on our next visit.

Horrible stay - this is maybe 2 stars but in no case 5. Rude staff- the parking is public and a bit of a walk away and it’s unsafe - homeless people hanging around. There is no valet at night. They didn’t help with bags and rooms smelt stuffy and didn’t smell clean.
