I was charged nearly $700 for smoking even though nobody in my room smoked, vaped, or used candles. The hotel’s report is just automated sensor data and a generic algorithm conclusion. There was no staff inspection, no smell, no ash, and no physical evidence.
This feels like an unfair, automated penalty. I’m disputing the charge with my credit card company and would not recommend staying here if you want a fair process.
The updated room I stayed in was lovely and my whole experience at the hotel was made even better through the attentiveness of the operations manager, Analise, I cannot say enough good things about her and, for the most part, the staff who attended to various things which were needed. This extended trip was during a frigid NYC cold spell and the warm atmosphere of The Arthouse really helped!
Loved the Arthouse Hotel! Spacious rooms and nice sized bathroom. A real treat for a NYC hotel! The staff was very attentive to making my stay comfortable. The hotel is situated between 72nd and 79th street, both of which have access to the 1 train which provided an easy commute around the city. Lots of dining options available, including Seraphina’s which is attached to the hotel, Levain Bakery, and a short walk to the famous Pop-Up Bagels. Located close to Central Park with lots of shopping and dining options! Will definitely be back!
Great location. Front desk service is not great. Rushed and rude. I tried to talk to the woman behind the desk and she didn’t smile or look up. Just kept saying ‘M’am, credit card and ID’. Honestly really mediocre and quite upsetting. Rooms good after renovation. Lifts appalling.
Terrible horrible, and checked out early! The weather was snowy and nasty and I wanted to stream a movie but that ubiquitous service was not something the hotel offered. After speaking with a staff engineer who came to the room I was told they don't offer "Casting"
We were in a handicap accessible room but instead of having a full length closet that could accommodate a full length winter coat, it was half size and I couldn't hang my snowy wet coat to dry.
The coffee in the morning was only tepid, and the TV blared some religious channel. When asked to change it the front desk person asked me why, and that he had to check with the manager. how about some local news and weather instead? Checked out early and was gladly welcomed at a neighboring property.
I was really disappointed with my stay at the Art House Hotel. The rooms are much smaller than expected—especially the bathroom. For two people, it’s extremely uncomfortable: there’s barely any space between the bed and the wall, so getting to the closet or even getting dressed feels like a struggle.
The water pressure was awful—so weak that you can barely rinse soap off. We politely asked customer service three times to check it. Each time they told us it was “fixed” or “checked,” but nothing changed. It honestly felt like they didn’t care and didn’t want to solve the problem or help at all.
Another downside: there’s no fridge in the room unless you request one, which should be standard at this price point. Cleanliness also wasn’t great—the room wasn’t as clean as it should be for what you pay.
Breakfast was also misleading. It’s advertised as “complimentary for $15,” but it’s basically just one coffee plus one croissant or one bagel, nothing more. On top of that, you have to wait in a long line—at least 30 minutes—so don’t expect a real breakfast experience.
The only positive is the location, which is great—but only if you’re using the hotel strictly as a place to sleep. Otherwise, I don’t recommend it, and I definitely won’t be returning.
I was in New York City for a family function and my niece arranged for us to all stay at the Arthouse Hotel. The neighborhood was great. Very safe . . . walkable . . . lots of restaurants in the area, including Serafina which is attached to the hotel. We had a wonderful group dinner there.
We were able to enjoy the common areas on the ground floor where we were able to meet and hang out. Plenty of seating provided.
Room was comfortable and clean. I would stay at Arthouse again.
Great location. Easy access to 72nd and 79th subway stations. Cool bar and lobby area. Penthouse was great with balcony views of the Hudson River.
Arthouse hotel is the poster child for junk fees. I used their website specifically to avoid using a third party booking site and was still directed to one. The resort fees added half again to the cost of my stay, in a miserable room with a view of a brick wall.
Lesson learned. I will now always go back to the Hotel Beacon with their spacious rooms and exceptional service.
My stay at Arthouse was an absolutely wonderful experience. I was traveling alone to New York for some quiet relaxing time and this hotel was the perfect choice.
I arrived early and was waiting for early check-in. There was a slight delay due to my unofficial English name, but the staff handled it so thoughtfully. They gave me a voucher for coffee and pastries at the cafe while I waited, and even upgraded my room to one with a balcony!
Even though I didn't spend all my time outside, having a balcony as spacious as the room itself provided such a sense of healing. It even started snowing, which made the whole stay feel so romantic. The bedding was spotless, and the atmosphere was incredibly peaceful. I would definitely choose Arthouse again for my next trip to NYC.
Amazing lobby and very relaxing. Excellent place to just relax after a long day. Great location on the UWS. Great rooms and staff.
The room was expensive, $600 a night. The hotel had no doorman, no one to help with luggage. The plumbing was poor - the shower a trickle of water, the sink didn't drain, the toilet paper holder was broken. When you open the closet door, you could see the cheap pasteboard they'd used for the shelves, which were already collapsing. The elevator was old and creaked and swayed in an ominous way. The heating system involved jet-plane level blasts of noise every 5 to 10 minutes all night long, but the floor was so cold I had to wear socks to walk in the room.
The location is great, we loved to come to our hotel after a crazy and busy day in the city. It feels a little bit like calming down. The neighborhood is nice and there are a view restaurants, cvs and cafes around the corner. Our room was smalles than admitted, but was okay and it was cleaned every day. We have to say that we didnt' like the breakfast at all, you get an coupon for every day and you can get a croissant or a bagel with it and a tea or filtered coffee (coffee is awful)! They won't give you the good coffee e.g a latte or a cappuccino. Nevermind we would recommend the hotel but without breakfast.
I had an incredible experience staying at this hotel with my family. From the moment we arrived for check-in, we were welcomed with such warmth and genuine hospitality, along with great recommendations about the neighborhood.
The rooms are very spacious — much better than other hotels in the area where we’ve stayed before. It made our stay even more comfortable and relaxing.
They offer breakfast in the lobby in the morning and a bar in the evening, and in both places the staff were absolutely lovely and always ready to help. I especially loved being able to enjoy my favorite drink in the comfort of the lobby when it was freezing outside.
The service throughout the hotel was outstanding — the doormen, housekeeping, and every staff member we interacted with were kind, attentive, and truly made us feel at home.
We will definitely be back. Highly recommended!
An amazing experience in NYC for the holidays! My first time staying at Arthouse, and I have to say I will definitely be back. Check in was very quick, and I was thankful the front desk offered me a better room with a view on a higher floor with no extra charge. I stayed alone in a king bedroom and felt like there was just enough space. The location is probably the best part. Super easy to walk to lots of sights in the UWS and also easy to reach the subway. My room was turned over every day and always had enough towels. No complaints here.
The hotel is a bit expensive for what it is. But it is actually more expensive than it seems. Without any notice, they add an 'Urban Fee' of $44.75 (including tax), which is nowhere mentioned or explained during the booking process. When I questioned it, they say it is mandatory and non-refundable and covers wifi, domestic telephone lines, and the gym. Frankly, no other hotel I have stayed in in the last twenty years has charged extra for wifi. It seems to me that it is a simple scam. Once this fee is added, there are much better hotels in NYC for the price.
Very good location. Clean and quiet. There is a pastry shop as well as a bar and restaurant nearby. Subway is 2 blocks away.
I have been going to the art house hotel for years and I’ve loved it and had so many great experiences, but I have to be honest that at a state I had this November it was not the same and a lot of the care and attention to detail that I was used to was not there. And then I just went back with my family for our annual trip during the holidays and it was a very unpleasant experience from a very delayed check-in to a room not ready to the heating not working and it was just more of an inconvenience than a Help I really do hope that they are on top of these Miss steps and the art house hotel goes back to being what it used to be because I did love staying there and I love the location, but I am frustrated and disappointed.
I brought my 19 and 20 year old kids as a birthday and Christmas present. I wanted to be in the city 4 star hotel or better but didn’t want to pay too much. This was a Great location. Clean. Good staff!
The hotel is totally mismanaged. And
It is not cheap. I stay in NYC a lot (I lived here for years) and this is just a rip off. We stayed 2 nights. It was over $800.
First, there is no indication of where the check in desk is, no concierge, no luggage carts. The lobby has a raw cement floor - not stylized, just raw where you can see the grease around the perimeter where the mop can’t reach.
The room tiny, so tiny there is no place to even stretch in the am. There is a cheap desk but no refridgerator. The cheap Keurig has burn stains in it, worked once and didn’t work again.
The TV is a early model big screen from the 1990s, complete with a distorted picture and oddly magnified hair and turf - remember that?
Though we booked for two nights, the room was not made up or attended to and the mounted bathroom producers pump bottles were either empty(hand cream) or almost empty and ran out on day two ( showe soup).
I know NYC and for this price, the emenities were insulting.
