Ashland had a severe power outage fir a few evening hours. Staff did a great job taking care of incoming and registered guests.
There are lots of positives to this hotel. The housekeeping is excellent. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. The linens and towels appeared to be new. The breakfast area was clean. I have stayed in several Hampton Inns, and the Ashland, VA location was one of the nicer ones.
Unfortunately, our stay was interrupted by a fire alarm at 5:00 am. Everyone in the hotel was evacuated. The fire department came and investigated. Thankfully, there was no fire and guests were sent back to their rooms. I asked at the front desk later and they said the fire department did not provide an explanation for why the alarm went off. In other words, it was not a false alarm, it appeared to be some kind of mechanical failure.
What troubled me was the failure to communicate. It would have cost pennies and taken a few minutes to type up a flyer and distribute it to guests as they departed. Something like "Dear Guest, we apologize for the fire alarm last night. Your safety is our number one priority. We were unable to determine the cause of the alarm. We are sorry your sleep was interrupted and we will be investigating the incident to prevent it from happening in the future. Thank you for staying with us." I wasn't looking for a disocunt or anything like that, I was looking for reognition of the problem. It would have cost zero dollars to send us an email. Instead, we received ... nothing. No explanation, no apology. It made me feel like they did not care.
We spent a night here on the way to Outer Banks. The Hampton lives up to the Hilton standards in excellence.lt is very clean and comfortable tThe rooms were clean. Free wifi and delicious breakfast included. The bed was comfortable. Staff was excellent with easy check in.
Well, I have to say that this was definitely one of the better Hampton Inns at which I’ve ever stayed!
Antonio was nothing but fabulous from the moment I checked in, greeting me with a warm smile, all the information, and even recognition of my HH diamond status … which seems to be a rarity these days!
I was upgraded from a queen room to a 2x queen room, and my room had everything I needed. One of the things I don’t really like about Hampton Inns is that they generally have very poor lighting, especially near the TV area (this hotel was no exception). That being said, my room was very clean and the beds were so comfortable!
I’d been staying at a Homewood Suites in Connecticut for the past week and the bed (marketed as a queen, but it was 100% a double) and the mattress there were absolutely terrible. This one-night stay felt like a dream!
Oh, and I loved the welcome treats just past reception (flavored syrupy drinks, fresh popcorn, and freshly baked cookies!). Help yourself 😊
I was also surprised to see single-use toiletries here, which I haven’t seen at Hilton properties for awhile. I always like to take these with me, and every couple of months will have a large bag’s worth to donate to a local women’s shelter.
Small but well-equipped gym onsite, which I used twice during my brief 1-night stay. Oh, and super lovely staff at breakfast too!
This hotel is conveniently located off the highway..................not too close. Rooms are very quiet and you cannot hear highway noise which is a big plus for me. Rooms are very clean and well maintained. Beds are comfy. The front desk staff is very friendly. Breakfast is a notch above most other hotels. Will definitely stay here again when traveling through.
Easy to find from nearby Route 95. Helpful suggestions for finding evening meals. A reasonable choice of breakfast loptions included. Plenty of parking.
This hotel is amazing! The staff goes above and beyond! The breakfast was delicious, It is close to many stores restuarants gas stations. The hotel is very clean! Very quiet!
nothing everything was excellent
the breakfast was great and the room was clean.
I had to pay an extra tourism tax. So you pay a tourism tax with booking.com and with the hotel. Also this hotel will no longer be accepting cash as payment.
Homey atmosphere with lots of little touches such as a hot cocoa bar and cookies
Additional tax added that hadn’t been mentioned
I never write reviews but as I sit here only one hour into our stay I just have to vent. First off… my bad I didn’t realize that this was a pet friendly hotel and that means that every room could have a pet in it. I would have thought they had certain rooms for pets. I sadly am highly allergic to dogs so… there’s that… The first room we checked into smelled like cat and dog pee. They could only move us to a room across the hall which smelled better but there were 3 different rooms surrounding it with constantly barking or howling dogs in the them. This was 9pm at night. And the walls are thin. If I could have I would have asked for a refund and high tailed it out of here but had no choice but to stay at that point. So if you are allergic to animals skip this hotel or bring lots of allergy meds. And ear plugs, and lots of patience. I always love Hamptons and guess I never stayed in one that allowed pets. This has caused so much anxiety on a trip that was supposed to be a respite after a very trying time in life. I know people love their pets but if they have separation anxiety and are going to be stressed and barking all of the time, please leave them home with a sitter and have some concern for fellow travelers. Rant over… thank you for listening. Achoo… sniff sniff
This was a very nice place to stay. Very clean. Good breakfast. Kind and respectful employees. Nice place and also close to Chipotles a nice place to eat.
Why does my room smell like my laundry room when there’s a pile of damp, dirty towels waiting to be washed? The smell is not overwhelming, just enough to keep me awake.
I joined Hilton Honors when I booked this reservation a few weeks ago. This is my first Hilton Honors stay. May be my last. Why? I made the reservation, then received a notification that I can check into my room remotely using the Hilton app. By checking in remotely, I don’t even have to visit the front desk when I arrive. Cool! I not only checked in the day before my arrival, but was allowed to select a room. There were 4 rooms available on the ground floor, so I selected one on the back of the hotel with a parking space right outside my window. Arrived at hotel, went to my room and the app told me I had to visit the front desk anyway. Woman at desk said, “That happens sometimes,” checked me in and gave me a hard room key “just in case.” I looked at that and discovered that I’m now on the 3rd floor. I have a knee issue and am wearing a brace, I want a first floor room because if the elevator shuts down I cannot deal with stairs. The woman at the desk said, “Oh, I’m so sorry, the previous tenant of that room extended their stay.” REALLY? Sounds like a rock solid excuse for giving my room away. No, I can’t have another room on the first floor because they are all sold. REALLY? When you gave my room away, why didn’t you give me another 1st floor room, since there were 3 more available yesterday when I selected my room?
So, I walk in the room and it smells like my laundry room if there is no air freshener plugged in. Is that smell coming from the a/c unit? Coming up the ductwork from the laundry room to my room? The bed clothes feel sort of nice completely dry. Are the linens being put on the bed not totally dry? Is that what I’m smelling? Mildew? It’s pretty disgusting. That’s why I’m writing this at 3am, because the smell combined with the constant drone from the a/c that I cannot shut off, is keeping me awake.
If this is the way you welcome your new Hilton Honors members, then I’ll take my business elsewhere.
Very comfortable room altho
I wish the darkening drapes had extended to entire window! Had marked difficulty sleeping with bright parking lot lights! Wonderful full free breakfast!
Centrally located
I only stayed for an overnight while traveling down the east coast.
Room was fantastic - clean, modern. Front staff was very friendly.
Easy access and friendly service
This hotel is in quiet and convenient location in proximity to Richmond entertainment. The room is both spacious and clean as advertised.
Staff was super friendly and helpful. Ted, the Manager, was great! Breakfast was one of the best I've seen or had at other hotels. There were lots of options to choose from so that even a picky eater would find something they liked.
