Great Stay! Highly Recommend!
Pros:

This hotel is conveniently located off the highway..................not too close. Rooms are very quiet and you cannot hear highway noise which is a big plus for me. Rooms are very clean and well maintained. Beds are comfy. The front desk staff is very friendly. Breakfast is a notch above most other hotels. Will definitely stay here again when traveling through.

Pros:

the breakfast was great and the room was clean.

Cons:

I had to pay an extra tourism tax. So you pay a tourism tax with booking.com and with the hotel. Also this hotel will no longer be accepting cash as payment.

Beware of pet friendly
Pros:

I never write reviews but as I sit here only one hour into our stay I just have to vent. First off… my bad I didn’t realize that this was a pet friendly hotel and that means that every room could have a pet in it. I would have thought they had certain rooms for pets. I sadly am highly allergic to dogs so… there’s that… The first room we checked into smelled like cat and dog pee. They could only move us to a room across the hall which smelled better but there were 3 different rooms surrounding it with constantly barking or howling dogs in the them. This was 9pm at night. And the walls are thin. If I could have I would have asked for a refund and high tailed it out of here but had no choice but to stay at that point. So if you are allergic to animals skip this hotel or bring lots of allergy meds. And ear plugs, and lots of patience. I always love Hamptons and guess I never stayed in one that allowed pets. This has caused so much anxiety on a trip that was supposed to be a respite after a very trying time in life. I know people love their pets but if they have separation anxiety and are going to be stressed and barking all of the time, please leave them home with a sitter and have some concern for fellow travelers. Rant over… thank you for listening. Achoo… sniff sniff

If this is how they treat new Honors members, I’ll take my business elsewhere.
Pros:

Why does my room smell like my laundry room when there’s a pile of damp, dirty towels waiting to be washed? The smell is not overwhelming, just enough to keep me awake.

I joined Hilton Honors when I booked this reservation a few weeks ago. This is my first Hilton Honors stay. May be my last. Why? I made the reservation, then received a notification that I can check into my room remotely using the Hilton app. By checking in remotely, I don’t even have to visit the front desk when I arrive. Cool! I not only checked in the day before my arrival, but was allowed to select a room. There were 4 rooms available on the ground floor, so I selected one on the back of the hotel with a parking space right outside my window. Arrived at hotel, went to my room and the app told me I had to visit the front desk anyway. Woman at desk said, “That happens sometimes,” checked me in and gave me a hard room key “just in case.” I looked at that and discovered that I’m now on the 3rd floor. I have a knee issue and am wearing a brace, I want a first floor room because if the elevator shuts down I cannot deal with stairs. The woman at the desk said, “Oh, I’m so sorry, the previous tenant of that room extended their stay.” REALLY? Sounds like a rock solid excuse for giving my room away. No, I can’t have another room on the first floor because they are all sold. REALLY? When you gave my room away, why didn’t you give me another 1st floor room, since there were 3 more available yesterday when I selected my room?

So, I walk in the room and it smells like my laundry room if there is no air freshener plugged in. Is that smell coming from the a/c unit? Coming up the ductwork from the laundry room to my room? The bed clothes feel sort of nice completely dry. Are the linens being put on the bed not totally dry? Is that what I’m smelling? Mildew? It’s pretty disgusting. That’s why I’m writing this at 3am, because the smell combined with the constant drone from the a/c that I cannot shut off, is keeping me awake.

If this is the way you welcome your new Hilton Honors members, then I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Pros:

This is one of the better Hampton Inns we have stayed at.

Very friendly check in, super easy. They gave us a cookie. That was awesome.

Mostly just a normal Hampton Inn except I liked that they had a nightlight in the bathroom and plenty of space. The breakfast was OK, normal for Hampton Inn, except the staff was super attentive and we appreciated that.

Perfect Stay Near Kings Dominion – Exceptional Service & Comfort!
Pros:

I chose the Hampton Inn Richmond-North/Ashland because it’s the top-rated hotel in Ashland, and now I understand why. I was visiting Kings Dominion (just a quick 10-minute drive away), and this hotel turned out to be the perfect home base for my trip.

One of the first things I noticed is the convenience and thoughtfulness built into the guest experience. The hotel offers free parking, and as a Hilton Diamond member, I loved having my own reserved spot right up front—such a nice perk. The location is also excellent, with plenty of restaurants within walking distance, so you don’t even need to get back in the car after a long day.

From the start, the team here showed how much pride they take in their hotel. I called ahead to make sure my room preferences would be honored, and they gladly accommodated my request. I checked in easily via the Hilton app, selected a digital key, and walked straight to my room without ever stopping at the front desk. Shortly after, I received a message checking in on my stay, and when I asked for a few extra items, they were delivered quickly and with a smile. That kind of follow-up is rare and shows how much they care about their guests.

The room itself was spotless and very comfortable. Housekeeping was fantastic, keeping everything fresh and welcoming each day. The room came with all the essentials—a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker—which made it easy to relax and recharge. The bed was cozy with feather pillows, and I slept very well during my stay.

That said, there are a couple of areas that could be improved:
• The TVs are older and don’t have streaming services, which was a little disappointing in 2025 when many hotels already offer this feature. Not a dealbreaker, but something I’d love to see updated.
• The lighting in the room uses bright white LED bulbs, which gave the space a bit of a harsh look. Warmer lighting would make the room feel much more inviting and relaxing.

Beyond the room, the hotel has nice amenities. The outdoor pool (seasonal) was crystal clear and very inviting. I also used the fitness room, which included free weights, a Peloton bike, and a treadmill. While it was perfectly functional, it could use a refresh to match the quality of the rest of the property.

Though I didn’t eat breakfast, I checked out the options, and it was a full complimentary continental breakfast with everything from make-your-own waffles and fresh fruit to baked items and hot dishes—plenty to start the day off right. Another thoughtful touch was the fresh-baked cookies and lemonade offered in the late afternoons and evenings, which felt warm and welcoming.

Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s clear that the staff take genuine pride in their work and go out of their way to make guests feel comfortable and cared for. Combined with the ideal location near Kings Dominion, great perks like Diamond parking and digital key check-in, and the overall comfort of the rooms, this hotel is a true gem in Ashland.

I look forward to staying here again on my next Kings Dominion trip in 2026, and I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone visiting the park or the Richmond area.
