Super 8 by Wyndham Calgary Shawnessy Area

Checkin was very slow considering we completed everything online in advance. Checkout was also slow…was suppose to be emailed a receipt..which never happened. Bathroom door or frame was warped and would not close. When we showered there was a leak from the ceiling above. Bathroom mirror also had big chip in it. Ice machine on 3rd floor did not work, later found out only ice machine working was on main floor…put a sign indicating same. Heating pipes in pool area were very noisy and covered in excessive dust.

I recently stayed 2 nights at Super 8 by Wyndham Calgary Shawnessy Area, and it was a very disappointing experience overall.

The room was extremely small, with an old, smelly carpet that made the space uncomfortable. The bathtub was outdated and not properly cleaned, which was unacceptable. The swimming pool also looked unclean and was overcrowded, making it unusable for our family.

We were surprised that even basic amenities like a toothbrush were not complimentary, they charged $2 for it, which felt unreasonable given the price we paid. For nearly $475 for two nights, the value was very poor.

Breakfast options were very limited, and there were no halal-friendly choices. Pork and scrambled eggs were placed together, which is not suitable for many guests.

Parking was another issue. The spaces were extremely tight, making it very difficult to park between vehicles.

I am also very disappointed with Booking.com for recommending this property. It is hard to understand how a hotel with this level of cleanliness and service is included on their recommended list.

Overall, this stay did not meet expectations at all, especially for the price. I would not recommend this location based on our experience.

Only thing is the heater / ac did not permit us to go under 74, it was working but the room stayed very warm.

Breakfast was OK, plenty to choose from for basic breakfast start. My only concern is on each day there were some people who were a little concerning and appeared to be not your usual hotel guests. Not sure if the hotel is helping some people who do not have their own place to live. I respect them if they are doing that but it did make me feel a little insecure in the breakfast zone ...but that could be just me! The pool area and hot tub was pretty good but really it is time for it to be cleaned and refreshed. It was clearly old and needed upgrading. Also you can only access the hot tub at 9am, would be nice for it to be 8am to get ready for the day ahead earlier!

Bathroom was a little dirty and the kids running up and down the halls until midnight was frustrating. We had to be up early. Also, at breakfast Sunday morning there was a lady who was clearly “intoxicated” passed out far down on the table so my daughter and I chose to eat elsewhere.

Parking is terrible, the speed bumps are a little excessive, had to call front desk as there were kids playing hockey in the halls at 11pm. Breakfast had a good selection, but was dried out due to sitting out to long.
