Convenience to town town and fair grounds
Nothing
Location, room, clean, restaurant
This hotel has a latent New Orleans vibe, especially with the restaurant's bar and restaurant extensions under an awning on Hanover Street. The brick facade completes its Southern appearance. Downtown Carlisle is filled with historic sites and cozy little shops (bookstores abound in a college town), and the campus of Dickinson College is a ten-minute walk away. Municipal parking, partially subsidized by the hotel, is only $5.50 per 24-hour period. We had a fourth-floor suite, suggested at the desk, that was totally quiet. The sofa was welcome as a staging area, and the bed was luxurious and an Emperor, rather than a King, size given its roominess and plush bedding. The 1794 Restaurant pulled off the theme elegantly, and the staff was repeatedly challenged by this historian about their knowledge of the Whiskey Rebellion, although whiskies are a house specialty and we are much lighter drinkers. The restaurant alone will get us back to Comfort Suites Downtown next time we're in the area. I had Pennsylvania Trout Friday night while my wife had two generous Chesapeake Bay crab cakes. On Saturday, we both had Bison burgers, a little oilier and tasting a tad like wild game. They were a savory experience, too. Waitstaff refills iced tea glasses without being called for, and service is always with a smile. A buffet breakfast is also included in the 1794, although it is much closer to standard motel fare than the restaurant's exotic and scrumptious lunch and dinner fare. All in all, with a very attractive overnight price point, this was one of the best hotel bargains we've ever gotten in a LONG travel career around the world. Every aspect of the hotel was positive; most were well beyond that. Consider visiting this gem in a town with plenty to see and do.
Nothing, although my hope that the 1794 would be directly involved in breakfast, was dashed. Just one overworked waitperson and lots of thawed pastries and entrees. If the hotel did get the restaurant involved in breakfast preparation, this hotel would soar off the charts in my diary.
Great place to stay!
The location
Honestly, we stayed here 4 years ago and loved it. The last few years we stayed at a cheaper hotel. This year, I decided to splurge and was very disappointed. We checked in on the 4th of July and the woman at the desk set the tone. She handed me the key folder and said key and WiFi. When I said what? She just pointed to the room number on the folder. She didn’t tell us where our rooms were, if/when/where breakfast was, where the parking garage was, where the room was or even what the room number was. She really made me feel unwelcome. I never used any of the amenities including breakfast because she made me feel so unwelcome. The room was comfortable but the bathtub could have used a thorough cleaning.
Situated in a good spot
Getting into the parking garage and going down a narrow ally
The staff was amazing and so kind to me and my family
Every single staff person I interacted with was helpful and upbeat. Dog friendly to boot.
Terrible pillows stuffed into little squares extremely high. Just a normal flat pillow would be nice. didn’t expect to have one window that looked out over a dim concrete sunken Alley but we were only there to sleep so all right.
Loved it
Great
The beds were so comfortable. The bathrooms are great. The rooms were big. The breakfast was delicious and we love the location.
