Eighteen days in paradise!
Pros:

Fantastic location, great beach and pools with perfect weather for our entire vacation. The Camino Real resort was wonderful; we were treated very well by the friendly resort staff, and I wouldn't hesitate to return in the future.

Lovely public areas
Pros:

Great location with beautiful pool and sheltered beach. Very good pool cafe, restaurant and bar, and a nice Starbucks ‘library’ too. However, bedroom disappointing - needs investment to bring it up to the standard of the rest of the place. Bathroom a bit smelly annd air conditioning noisy. But if you get a modernised room, go for it!

The food is totally cold and inadequate with only ten different selections. It only has one restaurant. Stay away
Pros:

I suggest the Park Royal down the road of Dreams! Camino Real is inadequate in every way. Cold water showers. Hard beds and pillows.

Beautiful property, stunning location
Pros:

A beautiful, tucked away property on a stunning beach! We walked the length of the beach past other resorts and felt this place stood out from all the others. We didn’t do the all-inclusive and discovered that the food was good but overpriced ($50 CAD for the breakfast buffet). As others say, the rooms are dated (2-3 star) but the grounds are 5 star. Staff were nice and attentive, getting taxis into town was easy. It’s a quiet location - we’re in our late 30s and felt young at this resort. Some pros: awesome, fully equipped gym with new & clean equipment (full rack of weights, 2 great spin bikes etc), renovated common areas, and a tennis court which wasn’t clearly advertised but made our week!! (we played nearly every day, the surface is like artificial grass). Downsides: the Starbucks was more expensive than at home and opened too late (9 am) and the towel service was quite frankly bizarre, we didn’t have our room towels replaced once in 8 days and they would randomly confiscate dirty ones. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend!

2 Star Resort At Best
Pros:

I hate to say it but this hotel is not great :( I know, I know and yes I love Camino Real Hotels but this hotel feels like it was built in the 90’s and never updated or maintained. Now don’t get me wrong, they have a few updated 4 star amenities like the coffee shop and the beachfront restaurant but other than that…it’s probably a 3 star resort at best and that’s a stretch.

Where do I start…so I’ll go with the hotel room fist, it’s bad, like real bad. We had a beachfront room, with pool and the view is spectacular but not the room. The sliding door lock to the beach and pool was broken. The latch lock to the front door of the room, also broken off. The mirror had rust spots all over it and the sink drains were also rusty. The room has zero USB ports and oddly enough no towels lol. We had to call twice to have towels brought to our room after the daily cleaning. Then they would only bring bath towels, no washcloths or hand towels..had to request those separately. While we’re on the subject of towels..let me share another frustration..Pool Towels. So to get a pool towel you need to have a “towel card” which is turned in for 1 towel, that’s it. Now at the end of each day you must return the towel for your card or you get charged..additional if you don’t have your towel cards at checkout..charged. We left ours in the room and had to go get them to checkout, crazy.

Folks tbh, the pool is a hot mess, I’ve never seen such dirty pool water, and the hot tub, the WORST I’ve even seen in my life. I think the pool filtration is messed up because it appears they no longer use it the way it was designed to overflow into a basin and filter but whatever..it’s gross and you have an ocean to enjoy. The service at the pool was a solid “F” grade imo. In 4 days we were only approached by a waiter 1 time and he gave us a menu and never came back lol. The beach bar is nice but needs refreshed and that’s where we had to go and order drinks.

Now onto the restaurants. The beachfront restaurant was great and the food wasn’t bad so that’s a win, finally! The breakfast restaurant is also really good and the breakfast buffet is fantastic. However dinner at the restaurant is so bad. We had a Oaxaca speciality our first night called “Tlyudays” and they were terrible. We also had a couple who live in Oaxaca with us..they were embarrassed and said it was the worst they had ever had. You literally needed to borrow someone else’s teeth to try and bite through the tortilla, Hard As A Rock. The gym was okay but overall the place need updates and just general maintenance everywhere. From missing thresholds on doors and areas that need repainting to safety hazarded level cracked walkways. I’m guessing corporate ownership is okay with this mess.

The only saving grace I could find were the people. Most were very kind and very helpful.

In summary, if your budget allows, pass on this hotel and stay somewhere that’s actually been taken care of. I’m a world traveler and ownership does not care about this property. If I could my videos…no one would ever stay here.

Room was mouldy, got sick, hotel did not care, restaurant food not edible, poor service. Have photos of visible mould.
Pros:

See photos on next post of mouldy room. Outside sidewalks cracked and heaving, high tripping hazard, hotel very poorly maintained, restaurant food terrible, complained about mould several times, wanted to clean room , we refused and demanded a new room on day 4 of 5. Got really sick in chest from breathing mould. Room air conditioner broken, said they fixed it, they did not.

Two star at best
Pros:

Beautiful location on a picturesque bay. Unfortunately the hotel is old, tired looking and badly in need of maintenance. A two star rating would be generous. If you are not in good physical shape do not stay here. Built on a mountainside, stairs (some without handrails) are everywhere along with steep pathways. The cement has been pushed up by tree roots on some paths, creating significant trip hazards. We are staying with three other couples and all but one of us had room maintenance issues. The restaurant is of poor quality and fairly expensive. There is no ice readily available and no ice buckets in rooms. If you want ice you must take a glass to the bar and ask the bartender for ice. The room rates seemed too good to be true, but after our stay we all felt a bit ripped off.

Beautiful location, awful hotel
Pros:

The hotel is beautifully designed and located in a stunning setting. Unfortunately, these are the only positive aspects I can mention.
The grounds are poorly maintained. The walkways to the rooms are made of stepping stones that are broken, uneven, and protruding from the ground, creating a serious safety hazard. I stumbled over them a few times.
The room is in very poor condition and look shabby, as does the private pool. Instead of repainting the rooms properly for the season, only certain spots were touched up, and the paint color does not match the original white. The result looks awful and careless. Bathroom fixtures are in terrible condition — not only outdated but also misshapen. The bathroom door handle was covered in brown residue from years of not being cleaned. I partially cleaned it myself and reported it to the manager; it was eventually cleaned, but no other door handles were addressed — only the one I pointed out.
The bed linens were stained and no longer white, but rather gray from years of use. Towels were another major issue: in the room, it was often impossible to have them replaced, sometimes forcing us to simply air-dry ourselves. Pool towels were never available.
Restaurant service is extremely slow, despite the food itself being very delicious. Staff appear in no hurry to serve guests. On our first evening at the on-site restaurant, we waited an hour and a half just to receive our appetizer. We did not dine on the premises again after that experience. It is also unclear why it is impossible to get a sandwich before 11:00 a.m. at the café — and even at 11:00, it is not always available.
The beach was never cleaned. Pieces of garbage we noticed on the first day were still there on our last day (day 12). Over twelve days, no cleaning was done. The palapas are dilapidated, with sections of their roofs missing.
While employees are polite and smile, they are ultimately unhelpful. Requests are acknowledged and then ignored — staff simply disappear and never follow up. Asking for assistance proved useless, as nothing was ever delivered. I requested a meeting with the manager Omar Gil multiple times and was assured by the front desk staff he would contact me. During our entire 12-day stay, we never heard from him. Oaxaca was a wonderful destination; unfortunately, our experience at this hotel was disappointing.
Regardless of Omar Gil’s response to this message in 12 days he never made the effort to contact me personally. And at this point it’s not needed. We will not give this hotel another opportunity to prove they could do better, as we will never stay here again. My vacation time is too valuable to give a hotel a second chance. They should have been prepared to provide an excellent experience from the very first stay.

Good, but could be improvedd
Pros:

All inclusive has changed, I expected to be treated the same as condo owners, per description. We had different menu, different drinks. We went to a concert, left resort at 5, left concert early so not to miss dinner. Was denied dinner. Had to go without. Staff are great except old guy at chef binni who died dinner. Lunch should be buffet, dinner a la carte. AC rep said room service was not included. It is. Found out upon leaving. Room was full of ants. Now hot water. Never had to use cold to shower. Needs updating. Beautiful location. Might go back if they fix flaws.

Very disappointing
Pros:

Love the pool with the room! Housekeeping was terrible and food and drunks were outrageously expensive. Only one restaurant, open for breakfast and dinner and then one down by beach and pool for lunch. There is a coffeeshop/library that serves starbucks drinks, some sandwiches and icecream.

Would not recommend.
Pros:

This was the fourth hotel our family of six stayed at during our two-week trip. We booked two nights to evaluate the property for a potential future stay, but unfortunately, it did not meet expectations.

Check-in is at 3:00 p.m., yet our rooms were not ready until after 5:00 p.m. We had booked two pool suites for our family (four children). We were also surprised that mocktails for the kids were charged at full cocktail prices.

Once in the rooms, multiple issues arose:
Both refrigerators were not working (only one was ever fixed)
No towels were provided initially
TV remote did not work in one room
Air conditioning did not work in one room

The air conditioning issue was ongoing throughout our stay. We reported it three separate times. Each time we were told it was fixed, but the room temperature remained above 25°C, making it very uncomfortable to sleep. We spent both nights in a hot room despite repeated complaints and long wait times for assistance.

The resort itself is attractive and has a boutique-style feel. The pool is large and enjoyable, with plenty of loungers and shaded beach huts.

However, food and drink prices are extremely high. The breakfast buffet for six people cost 2,800 pesos, which was significantly more than what we spent dining in town, including cocktails.

The beach was also poorly maintained, with garbage, sticks, and shells throughout, which was disappointing given the beautiful location.

Overall, this was a very poor experience. We visit the Huatulco area often. This trip staying at Holiday Inn Huatulco, La Flia Oceanfront Villas, and Barceló Huatulco — all of which we would highly recommend over Camino Real Zaashila.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful place! Thank you for a lovely vacation.
Pros:

We had a fantastic week at Camino Real Zaashila. My son had so much fun with Keren and Alejandra at Club Travesuras, doing crafts and playing games. The pool is gorgeous and Reynaldo and Avelino provided excellent poolside service for drinks and snacks. Our room was clean and cool, and the restaurant Chez Binni is delicious. We stayed all inclusive and enjoyed the buffets and Oaxacan cuisine. This was a beautiful, peaceful resort with very well maintained grounds and facilities. Close to the hotel shops and an inexpensive taxi ride to Santa Cruz and La Crucecita. We look forward to staying again!

Beautiful location
Pros:

Meals were poor and very expensive. Would not recommend all inclusive here.
Maid service was just average. Found it very difficult to get clean towels and facecloths. Had to ask several times, several days and even after calling the front desk still didn’t get any! Not sure if it was the fault of the maid or if the hotel just didn’t have enough!
The hotel is on a beautiful place on the beach, lovely view!

Camino Real Zaashila
Pros:

We had a wonderful stay at the Camino Real Zaashila. The entire property is absolutely gorgeous from the lobby down to the beach. The pool, restaurants, bar areas and the grounds are beautiful with many plants and flowers. The groundskeepers do a super job maintaining it all.
The staff was very pleasant all the time. They work hard and are very professional.
The rooms are large and clean and airy. They are a bit dated though and could use a refresh. But the towels were plush, the bed comfortable and the AC worked so no major complaints. The mini fridge was a great feature and our room had a nespresso machine as well. We loved having our own pool and spent time in it everyday.
The main pool was not clean when we first arrived and throughout the next day but it did get a good cleaning on our second day. A plus is that there does not seem to be any chair saving by the pool or the beach. And the towels are the best!
We also spent time at the beach everyday. The ocean does have waves and is not very calm, I think the red flag was up every day but we felt safe in the water and enjoyed the waves. There was a lifeguard on duty all the time. It is a beautiful clean beach.
The hotel is quiet, and there was no entertainment. Perfect for us! We hope to be back!

A very pleasant stay over all.
Pros:

The Camino Real Zaashila is a lovely property tucked away on Tangolunda Bay and separated from other hotels on the other side of a small rock cliff. The beach is beautiful with swimming in the ocean being pleasant and comfortable on some days to not suggested on others. The gardens are very well tended to and everywhere you walk is really nice; this is a very pretty spot with birds, iguanas, etc abounding.
The accomodations are fair, at least my room was; I was given a quiet room (which I appreciated very much) on the top floor almost directly on the beach, and the view was absolutely stunning; so much so that I could almost forgive the inefficiencies; the air conditioner would give off a foul odour within a few minutes of turning it on, so I just made do with the ceiling fan after a bit which was fine (I did mention it at the front desk, nothing changed during my stay, but hopefully it will be taken care of in the future). Furniture, especially the chairs both on the balcony and in my room were extremely old and rusted out, but the bed was nice and comfy with nice linens. The bathroom was very functional with plenty of pressure in the shower; just wished they changed the towels more often.
There was a smart tv, but the remote was very old and didn’t match, so you could only maneuver through the channels, but not really use the other functions (I know, first world problems, but if you’re going to put a smart tv in the room, make sure the remote goes with it). There’s no coffee machine, but they will bring you one with nice mugs if you ask at the front desk (I brought my own coffee, so that worked out nicely for my mornings), housekeeping always left me with plenty of water after they kept my room nice and tidy.
Restaurant (breakfast and dinner) were at ‘Chez Binni’ and lunch at the Grill or some menu items could be ordered from the beach or poolside. You could also get room service (which I only did once, but it was prompt and good). Food was decent, I guess, with the breakfast being my favorite; hosted by Juanita who was the best of the best; she anticipated and attended to all I needed and/or wanted, even almost before I thought of it; a lovely person and an asset to this place for sure. The young lady that greeted in the restaurant was very sweet also but I didn’t quite catch her name. At dinner, Tomas and the other meseros were always very friendly and good to me, as were the bartenders in the lounge. The boutique and photo place tended vey well by Elias and Lydia was so enjoyable to go to because they were both so informative and knowledgeable; we had some great exchanges of stories. They have some beautiful Oaxacan items for gifts or for yourself. There’s a beautiful café that serves Starbucks coffee, if that’s your thing( but it’s not a Starbucks per se, so your rewards or gift card doesn’t work here). If I felt like a good cappuccino, I asked for one at breakfast or dinner at Chez Binnis’ and they were delicious. There’s a fairly new and decent gym, that was nice to have when I wanted a workout. Front desk people were helpful and always tried their best accomodate to your needs; kudos to them, as they had to deal with some pretty entitled guests at times. Most all of the staff everywhere was friendly and pleasant, especially once we got to know each other.
I had a very pleasant stay in a beautiful spot. Thank you and see you pronto!

Pros:

The shared facilities are very beautiful, however the individual rooms are very disappointing. The toilets, sinks and curtains are all stained and need urgent remodeling. The food at the hotel is also very expensive and not worth it. The staff are great and the pool and dining areas are gorgeous, but given the condition of the rooms, would never stay here again.
