Loved our stay there, the room size is amazing with comfortable chair and balcony. Patio is inviting and the location is close to local shops and restaurants. Elvia kept her graces when the system went down and was quick to accommodate our check in needs.
Everything was wonderful
You couldn’t see out our windows
3 important facts about the author: I grew up in a poor rural community and have slept in several less than ideal settings, I NEVER leave reviews and I have been a loyal Bonvoy member for more than a decade.
I prefer Marriott properties for all stays but Courtyard is my specific preference for single night stops. I have stayed in Marriotts all over the US and Courtyards in nearly every state east of the Mississippi. The Harrisonburg, VA Courtyard is by far the worst Marriott property I’ve ever visited and is in contention for worst hotel (or motel for that matter) I’ve ever seen.
We made reservations a month in advance (quick turnaround myth busted), checked in around 9 pm (3 hours after online check-in…in a rush myth again busted), mom/dad, two kids and two dogs after a 12-hour day of travel. The parking lot literally looked like it was staged for a bad horror movie. The letters on the marquee and main building signs that actually worked were barely visible, the lighting & atmosphere in the parking lot screamed ‘hand-crafted by criminals seeking lower risk hunting grounds’, complete with the token one flickering light in the center lot (not kidding). Our room was just disgusting - damp floors, mold and mildew in the bathroom, dirty/un-flushed toilets, urine stain on the sofa bed mattress, sticky/grimy surfaces, faulty AC…just the works. Visited the front desk, was told there were no replacement sofa mattresses available…was NOT offered any form of an acknowledgement or apology but was offered a different room and a clean (I guess) bedding set. Given the conditions mentioned above, confidence the other room would be in better or different condition was less than high…and if it was, one would immediately wonder why it wasn’t assigned to us in the first place. Faced with the choice of uproot wife, kids, dogs & luggage at 10 pm or endure damp, mold, urine and filth, we chose to gut it out as a sleep & go, halfway stop on a long road trip. One can only hope the local bedbugs have enough decency and self-respect to stay in better places than this. Stay tuned for updates there. I don’t like absolutes but I can say, with certainty, I will NEVER stay at this property again and truly cannot think of anyone I dislike enough to recommend it to. Sleeping in our car in a random RV lot would have been a more relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Body wash container in shower was empty
Comfortable room amenities, great patio
Breakfast was "not a thing we do" according to the bistro employee
Stayed at the Harrisonburg Courtyard. Outstanding service. Was greeted by Abby as soon as we walked in, who was delightful, thorough and polite. We then went to eat in the bar area and had great service by Morgan. Abby came and spoke with us and recommended sites to see in the area. (Luray Caverns was outstanding) .
We're planning another trip down south and we'll stay at the same hotel and hope to meet the same employees!
I have been coming to this hotel since it opened in 1999. Many memories for my family there. We come 2x a year to visit family in area. I have seen this hotel have many ups and downs, lots of renovations. I just got back from Easter weekend, had connecting rooms a king and 2 queens. I am pretty sure I wont be returning back to this location and switching it up to the Hyatt. This hotel is definitely not up to Marriott Standards. The queen room was the worst between the 2. The toliet was the Leaning Tower of Pisa, shower had so much mold, peeling, tiles falling off. Huge crack in sink that looked like they tried to repair it. The king room was better but also had cracked sink. Lets just mention about the pool which has been closed for YEARS and had paper covering the window, apparently they have no plans to reopen it. Morgan at the Bistro was the greatest, she was there all weekend long and served us well.
The miller high life’s were cold and amazing. They had great service!
Great vibes and service, Morgan was the best!
Morgan is the best! Great service
Morgan is fantastic! She goes above and beyond to keep your glass full
Morgan is the best! So helpful and nice
Morgan is a standout bartender—friendly, quick, and always making sure you feel welcome. Their drink recommendations are spot-on, and they keep the atmosphere lively. I’ll definitely be back!
Clean, large rooms. The little cafe was super cute and the food wasn't bad. Morgan at the café was very friendly. They served starbucks beverages, teas, pasteries. Had brakfast and lunch options and even wine and liquor. The hotel is dog friendly and there were multiple dogs seen around. All well behaved :)
I stayed at this hotel for a week and every morning I’d go down to get a coffee to start my day. Everytime Morgan was behind that counter she was such a positive force. She’d send me off with some sort of joke making me smile. Didn’t matter the time of day 7 am, 3 pm, 8 pm, they’re lucky to have her here. She made my experience 10/10.
My family and I stayed at the Marriott on Valentine’s Day. The staff was fantastic. The front desk staff Elvia and Ali were wonderful. I had questions and they were professional, helpful and very personable. Jayla at Starbucks was absolutely amazing. We’re gonna go out to dinner, but after talking to her, she kind of persuaded us to stay at the hotel and we had a very nice meal. The next morning we had breakfast also in the lobby and Morgan helped us there. She was a very nice person. We did not interact with the housekeeping staff since we were only there for one night, but when we saw them in the hallways, they were very nice and very pleasant. So overall, our visit was very nice.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Kudos to all of your staff👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I I have been a Marriott member for quite a while. I’ve stayed in your hotels, all over the country, small town and large. I have never been to one of you hotels that you did not get at least one bottle of complementary water and have complementary coffee in the lobby. I do understand that there’s a Starbucks in the lobby, but they’re not open between noon and five. It would have been nice when we check in during those hours coffee or a bottle of water would have been available.I appreciate the fact that there was water in the lobby, but when I needed water, but I had to walk back-and-forth from my room to the lobby. Had I known that you did not give out complementary items I would’ve brought my own.
Morgan was superb! I had the BEST grilled cheese and tomato soup! It hit the spot with a nice end to travel in the winter storm and her personality is like a shiny star!
Enjoy my stay at Courtyard each time I visit. Morgan was great with her bartending service
