Outdated and too small room

I have stayed in this hotel many times in the past. I was expecting some upgrades but it let me down.
The room was too small for 3 people. The bathroom fittings are outdated and need immediate replacement. The room is not value for money. All the facilities are minimal.

A fun stay
Pros:

Overall I enjoyed my stay. The staff there are a fun and interesting bunch. Half the time I thought I was in an Indian remake of Fawlty Towers. There was some haphazard chaos but in the end it was more endearing than annoying.

For instance, every night I got the same call to my room asking if I had made a food order (which I hadn't). Not annoying and if anything it showed good diligence.

But ultimately the staff do try really hard and aim to provide a good service and (most of the time) they do.

Cons:

The bed was a little hard. Not unbearable but a bit harder than I usually like. The laundry service is ridiculously expensive compared to other services. The shower works but when you turn the hot water on it shudders and spits like it hasn't been used in months.

Un bon hôtel !
Pros:

Nous avons apprécié l'accueil, la situation calme de la rue où se trouve l'hôtel.
La chambre, le confort du lit et la propreté.
La disponibilité du personnel.
Cela reste tout de même le meilleur hôtel que nous ayons eu durant ce séjour au Bengale.
Nous reviendrons avec plaisir.

Cons:

Le personnel bruyant dans les couloirs tôt le matin, ainsi qu'une musique forte dans les couloirs que nous trouvons inutile.
La plomberie qui doit être revue dans la douche.

We had a wonderful stay at the Roland Hotel!
It’s a very charming and peaceful place, and the rooms are spotlessly clean. We felt completely at home from the moment we arrived.

The breakfast was delicious — we really appreciated that the focus was on Indian dishes, with just a small continental selection. That’s something we’ve found quite rare in other Indian hotels, so thumbs up for that!

We also loved the little touches: two complimentary bottles of water and a small welcome snack in the room.

We can warmly recommend the Roland Hotel for anyone visiting Kolkata.
