I recommend getting Air Tags on the luggage carts or have a specific place where a guest can find them--They were hard to find for both the guest & the reception workers. They need better quality facial tissue in the bathrooms. The lobby service was top-notch & the rooms & bathrooms are quite spacious. The free breakfast was well beyond the typical "continental" breakfast--It was high quality & tasty. Ramp parking is available next door--just a 1/4 block from the hotel side ground-floor. entrance.
I loved the interior style. It was a good combination of vintage and modern. Was also within walking distance of the arena that I was there for.
The parking trying to check in as only 2 spots which is understandable for the area its located but still a pain.
Absolutely stunning view on the 6th floor facing the State Capitol.
Nothing at all!
Disclaimer that I didn't stay here! I'm leaving a review for the misleading pricing on the website and the customer service. The website showed the price for my dates was $845 "including fees," however, when I went to book it, the price had not in fact included all fees and the price was now $987. When I called to ask why, the receptionist was extremely rude. I understand that she is not the website designer, but there was no reason to be short with me when I was trying to book a stay.
The uniqueness of the building, rooms, and its history is its best marketing feature. Being in an old convent with most of the original features still intact is great. The updates to each room are modern, and they do a great job of highlighting the individuality of each room. The beds and pillows are comfortable, and the towels are nice and large. Parking can be a little difficult, but the ramp directly behind the property is super convenient. Proximity to bars, restaurants, and entertainment (Fitzgerald Theater & Grand Casino Arena) is easily walkable.
The history of the building can also become its downfall at times. Our door would not latch unless slammed shut and the water pressure in the shower was minimal. The AC didn't work in our room, but we were able to open the windows, which was nice. We attended a concert at the Fitzgerald and wanted a nightcap at the hotel bar, which was advertised to be open until 11, but was closed when we arrived back at the property. There were moments when we were walking through the surrounding neighborhood and experienced feelings of being unsafe.
Great room within walking distance of many things in downtown St Paul. The historic room was clean and had plenty of space.
Charming hotel, great vibe and excellent location next to the Fitzgerald Theater. Loved being able to open the doors to the mini balcony.
My room/balcony being across the street from the fire station wasn't ideal. A bit noisy with sirens a few times.
The breakfast was good. The location was good and the the building was beautiful.
Room cleaning seemed sub par. There was debris on the floor that made me wonder how thorough cleaning has been done overall.
Had a great stay, would stay again. Only reason why I did 4 stars for sleep was the heater/ac in the room started to make this odd clicking noise that didn’t stop all night. Other than that, comfortable bed, very clean all around and beautiful interior design of original woodwork. Location was a perfect spot for us, was a 5 minute walk to The Palace theatre which was the concert venue we went to. Some of the homeless/drug addicts were a bit sketchy but no one bothered us.
Close to downtown St. Paul , walking distance to hockey arena and many restaurants and shops. Very unique hotel , creaky and squeaky floors add to the history of the hotel. The bar and bartender were top notch . Drinks were well made and reasonable priced.
Parking was ridiculously expensive, had to walk from parking ramp to hotel at night , kind of shady area , lots of homeless people wandering at all hours of day and night. Little uncomfortable with the panhandling constantly when coming and going. Could possibly have security for night time outside area
I loved the friendly staff and good breakfast
It was very noisy. All night I heard loud traffic outside. Stayed in a room right next to the washer machine and heard that going all night long as well.
They were also all out of any pain medication in their vending area with the foods and drinks.
The service was amazing and the hotel was clean. We stayed here for a hockey game and it was a ten minute walk. Would highly recommend.
easy to find
Worst check in experience of my decades of travel. I've never had a staff member be so rude. Didn't say hello, welcome me to the hotel. Nothing. Literally just said "Last name" and then instructed me to swipe my card. Rolled her eyes when I asked for luggage cart. I was speechless. Room was essentially in the basement ("G" level). Filthy windows. Blinds did not work. Carpet torn and frayed. Vent in bathroom was absolutely filthy. I can't blame the hotel for the street noise - -the hotel is in downtown St. Paul -but between the train, traffic noise, insanely loud manhole cover just outside our window, there was very little sleep.
