Such a great concept and location. They are a hidden gem! I will be back!
There is nothing to dislike!
Cool building with lots of history. Staff were exceptionally nice. Let me check in at 10am. Shower had full door. It was a quirky place that reminded me of European boutique hotels
There is a LOT of paintings and photos from when it was a convent. I think that’s cool but if you’re put off by religious imagery be warned
It was unique and had a very interesting story and close to our concert venue. Bar staff were amazing.
Bed wasn’t so comfy and it was damp in our basement room.
Location is great and staff is helpful. The breakfast and coffee are really good as well.
facilities - this was the 2nd time/ room i've stayed in where 1 lamp was not working, or needed a light bulb replaced. The soap/shampoo dispensers in the shower need to be replaced, I couldn't even read the labels as to which was which. The ac/heater is extremely loud as well. Additionally, the water machine down on the ground level did not work and there was no sign or information from the staff about it, so taking a trip down there only to find out it wasn't working was frustrating. Also, I understand there is room cleaning by request only but I think the least that could be done is refilling the coffee packs and checking the soap dispensers. Just seems like the hotel is kind of lacking on the service and facilities side, which is sad because it's a beautiful place.
Location, comfort of room, close parking
Nothing
Such a neat space in a convenient location with friendly staff.
That we couldn't stay longer.
The hotel ambiance is nice, I liked the old monastery vibes. The room AC did very little, the hotel was nice enough to loan me a floor fan. The room itself was clean, except for the outside of the window. A lot of pigeons liked to congregate there, leaving mounds of droppings. The breakfast was limited, but good quality. Also the area is a bit rough, but no one messed with me.
The room AC, the area
Beautiful property! Everything was comfortable and clean, the staff was wonderful, and the location was great.
Nothing!
I love this quaint little boutique hotel. Beautifully converted convent/ school. The location can’t be beat if you have things to do and see in St Paul. Easy parking. Loading zone up front.
Parking is 20 bucks a day
Know where to park and arrive early because the neighborhood gives off I Am Legend vibes. Bring a fan to stay cool because there is one option on the registers, low-medium-or high hot air. Adjusting the temo is not an option. The hotel sets the temp at 72 and you can't change it but that doesn't mean the air works and rooms can get to 86 degrees. The windows don't open to circulate air either. The place can have an old smell in some areas so you might think to bring an air diffuser as well.
The staff was exceptional, especially the front desk person. She helped me with various things, and told me the history of the hotel. I loved the atmosphere of the place and that you've conserved the feel of the old convent.
This is kind of a me problem, but the lobby elevator area is very dark. Granted, I'm visioned impaired but I can usually see the elevator buttons and I had to feel for those. Inside the elevator was well lit, it's the buttons to call the elevator on the first floor.
The Celeste in downtown St. Paul is a renovated convent, uniquely charming, with artwork by the former residents. The location is perfect: the Green line and other transit is steps away, Union Station is two stops down, and the Capitol and Cathedral are easy to reach. The staff have the fortunate combination of professional competence, accommodation, and friendliness. Our room was beautiful; we particularly enjoyed the walk-in shower in the tiled bathroom, the HVAC was easy to set for comfort.
The double-paned windows and blinds shut out the noise and light of the city. I seldom give out 5s, but the Celest deserves them.
My husband and I stayed in the Kings Suite with lounge area and were heavily disappointed with our stay. Our room was incredibly noisy with the transit right outside our window, sirens, alarms, heavy construction, and the sound of chairs scrapping right above our room. I had stayed at the Celeste before and we were so excited to share our special day at your location, only to be exhausted and agitated with waking up every hour due to noise. Had we of known there was construction with what seemed to be at every corner outside of our hotel room, furniture moving above our heads due to the possibility of the breakfast hall being above us, and the noisy transits right outside of our window, we would have chosen to spend our special day somewhere else. The thermostats could not go below 70 and it was near 95 degrees outside and our blinds could not full extend to block out the sun. Although these may seem like minor things, my husband and I are very disappointed in how we spent our special night.
The beautiful restoration.
The room was great but noisy
Parking
The room looked bigger online than it actually was and when I mentioned an upgrade to them that I was will to pay for they got us into a King Executive Suite the next morning and did it for free. The food was real, no fake eggs and it was pretty busy the weekend we were there and had a little bit of a tough time keeping things stocked up for all the guest. Overall it is a great place! We will be back!!!
