Still the best place to stay in Berkeley
Pros:

Situated only a couple of blocks from UC Berkeley and right on the main Shattuck street, we could not have wished for a better location for our son's college visit. This historical building is old, but is well maintained (with a couple of broken windows which their maintenance people were very quick to fix). The restaurant downstairs apparently offers very decent mediterranean cuisine according to my local friends. You'll never run out of dining options in the area, though.

Cons:

Not the most friendly crew. When my teenage son and I got dropped off right in front of the hotel at around 3pm, no one came to help with our three suite cases (unlike the image that they present on their official website). We rolled them up the slope ourselves and reached the reception only to find our that the doorman had been chatting with the receptionist. When we reached the reception desk, he quietly left and went back to the door. After we checked-in, the bathroom needed some fixing. I called up and spoke to a receptionist who said she would send someone up. After 2.5 hours of waiting and not receiving anyone (nor an update), I came down to the reception. She had already gone home, and I got to speak to another receptionist. To my surprise, the first thing he said was "I'm not sure that's our housekeeper's job" without trying to fully understand what I was asking for. In the end, it turned out that we DID need their maintenance key to get the work that I was requesting to be done in our bathroom. The maintenance and house keeping people were all very helpful though.

Pros:

Location was great. They gladly switched me into a quieter room. They had a water bottle filler. Coffee in the room was good too.

Cons:

Word to the wise, request a room that is not on the Shattuck side if things like noise present an issue for you. Thankfully they were able to put me in another room. Bed and pillows left a bit to be desired in terms of comfort or luxury. Bathtubs were a bit hard to get into--they were high and slippery.

Very comfortable.
Pros:

Terrific location, welcoming and polite staff and nice and comfortable accommodations. I will stay there again. Very close to UC campus too.

お部屋の中は綺麗で清潔。テレビはYouTubeもNetflixも繋がるし、バスルームは取り外しのできるシャワーが付いてて水圧も高く使いやすい。11月で天気が悪く寒かったが、暖房もよく効き快適な滞在だった。

The Best Location
Pros:

You can't beat the Shattuck Plaza location, across the street from Downtown Berkeley BART station and just a block from Campus. And their restaurant, Zino, is not just beautiful and serves excellent food, but is the only sit-down dining in the area open for breakfast at 7:00am. So if you're in town for a show at Berkeley Rep, Shattuck Plaza is where you want to stay.

Everything was wonderful except the allergens
Pros:

Great location and staff. Comfortable rooms.

Cons:

I have a mild dust allergy that isn’t triggered by most hotels’ bedding, but it was really bad starting my 4th night here. The hotel should consider investing in hypoallergenic pillows or pillowcases. They didn’t have either available when I asked, though they staff did what they could and brought me pillows with freshly laundered pillowcases (which didn’t help unfortunately).
