I booked a 5-night stay at this hotel specifically because their official listing explicitly stated the room included Air Conditioning and a Refrigerator. Upon checking into my room, I found that neither of these advertised amenities were present.
The room was incredibly hot, stuffy, and completely uncomfortable. The actual condition of the room was far below the standard shown in their online photos and made it impossible to stay. Because the room was unlivable without the advertised AC, I was forced to return my keys and check out immediately, staying for barely one hour.
When I checked out, I explained the missing amenities to the front desk staff. They acknowledged the issue and verbally promised me a full refund for my stay. However, once I left the property, the hotel management completely ignored all of my follow-up emails. They have continuously refused to provide the necessary written confirmation to my booking platform to process the refund they promised.
I am now out nearly $370 because the hotel will not take responsibility for their inaccurate online listing and will not honor the verbal agreement made by their own staff. I strongly advise future travelers to be extremely cautious, as the amenities listed online may not exist, and the customer service is completely unresponsive once they have your money.
I was there on a work trip in early January a little over a week ago. This hotel is in the Tenderloin neighborhood, so get ready for a lot of homelessness on nearby streets. I saw human feces just outside the hotel the first morning I was there. But the 1-star review is not for that. The hotel and rooms are clean enough and you will get housekeeping service if you ask for it. The problem was trustworthiness. Two days after checking out, I realized I had left a fairly expensive hair dryer in the bathroom. I called immediately and was told someone would call me back - I explained I lived an hour away and could come pick it up. No response. I called again - this time it was a rude gentleman. I called a third time when a nice gentleman named Bill answered and took down all the information, and promised to call back, but never did. How could a big hair dryer simply vanish? The fact that I called 3 times with no response from the staff shows there's zero accountability.
The hotel name is slightly misleading. This is not the embassy hotel owned by Hilton. The location is not bad during day time. You can walk to the civic center and the theatres. Here are the negatives: dirty and dusty room, outdated/broken elevator and broken internet. If you have dust allergy like my wife who woke me up every night, don’t stay here. Heating unit is very loud. And, you cannot set your own room temperature. Noise level is bad. You can hear the footsteps above you and the noises outside your room. The worst part is the hot shower is non existence. The atmosphere here is like a run down unmaintained motel. This hotel has ruined my vacation. Value for money is zero.
The floor was dirty, the door wouldn't lock, and when I didn't stay and asked for a refund they refused. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!! Buyer beware.
Everything was Good !!!
Staff is very unprofessional and
Very nice
Run down property
If you want a quaint retro feel hotel this place is for you. If you can look past its imperfections you will find a comfortable stay. We may have been a bit niave but the area is terrible, full of people living on the streets and using drugs, one even weilding a knife on another. Once inside you do feel safe, although the room we had was quite noisy especially with some people screaming and rubbish trucks doing a 4 am pick up. Overall, we got what we paid for and the staff were super accommodating
The reasons I chose this hotel:
Price (<$160/night)
Location (walking distance to War Memorial Opera House)
Airline Points
I read the reviews and knew this would be more like a motel than a hotel. It was far below that. While the water worked and the bed was comfortable, the room was dirty, there was toothpaste splatter on the bathroom walls, and there were only two outlets to power everything in the room.
Now, there was ample storage and the neighborhood was surprisingly quiet.
Sadly, I left clothing items behind. Upon arriving home, I immediately called and was told to call back when housekeeping was available as the hotel was full and the clerk could not check the room.
I called the next day. That clerk kindly entered the room and told me the only things he saw were an empty water and an empty wine bottle. Granted, I had told him the clothing items were in the dresser drawer. I'll add, I find it odd the hotel was supposedly full and yet the room had not been serviced since 11:00a the previous day.
The clerk told me to use the info@ address to write the manager. I did. No reply. I sent another. No reply. I called the desk again over a week later and asked to have the manager reply via phone. No return call.
I will be contacting the SF branch of the Better Business Bureau soon.
Yes, KFC, Taco Bell 2 min walk, convenience store 1 min, city hall 7 min walk. Dated hallways, but front foyer gorgeous, and room itself nice, roomy and clean. Loved it... "Old times" feeling
We’re
Rooms very old, smells, carpet dirty, no one comes to fix your bed or change your towels. Once I asked for towels I got them. Staff friendly. I won’t stay there next time.
sketchy looking rug stains, a heater with a broken nob that doesn't turn off, the heater also made the loudest popping noises all night - we barely slept. Front desk staff was wonderful, but overall I would've rather paid more to stay anywhere else.
Very comfortable very clean .
All worked great i really like staying there.
Really old hotel that need to be 100% refurbished and really loud so it’s hard to get a good night sleep
Woke up at 6 in the morning because of the staff start cleaning and hammering on the pipes and during the night you got woke up by fire trucks, police and people that are yelling at the street
1st room key did not work - had to go back down and were given a new room and key
Back door to parking was left unlocked instead of only accessible with key.
Plug in bathroom did not work
Phone in room did not work
Wifi code they gave us did not work
carpet was stained
Sheets had spots
Curtains had stains
Central
Property had no air conditioning, one 2 prong outlet in main part and one outlet in bathroom . They charged 30 a night to park even though the sign outside said $27 , room was very worn and dated. Was not a good value for the money
