This hotel was AMAZING! From the moment we checked in, everyone was so kind and welcoming. The room was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully put together. You can really tell the staff care about making guests feel at home. Little touches throughout the hotel and restaurants made the stay feel extra special.Everything about our stay was smooth and relaxing. Honestly, we didn’t want to leave! I would recommend it to anyone visiting.Definitely a 5-star experience and we can’t wait to come back!
Anniversary Date Night with my love
My friend brought me here to check this place out. What a trip! I was so lost and there was so much to look at. I went to heaven and hell there were tons of lights, but not very much music. I enjoyed taking it out maybe it was an off night and Lulu‘s was closed.
Stunning design and some kind folks behind the counter but like every trendy hotel I have ever stayed in for the past ahem decades - a total disaster, It is first and foremost a party hotel - I would imagine that most of the folks partying aren't even staying here. Loud music from 10am until all hours - no security whatsoever. And the partying continues until at least 4am (and this on a Tuesday!!!). The design is stunning.
The bathroom floods, there was no shower gel in the bottle upon arrival and had to TEXT someone to get a bottle that took 30min. Like the Ian Schragers, Soho Grands, Mondrians, Soho Houses - these hotels all put partying over hotel guests and well we know what happened there. If you cherish your sleep, any sleep do not stay here.
How about a clean room? Well don't expect that either.
And if you do stay here - I would avoid the weekends. I came on the tail end of a weekend it was bedlam here. It's for local SD folks and the like who think they are cool. but are loud and trashy.
And not feeling safe in a hotel is not a great feeling. Public access to the rooms, which means extra noise by the pool. I never saw any sort of security and with a property this size + alcohol - it is a wonder that more awful things haven't happened.
A quintessential cocktail lounge experience that blends the ages, and sumptuously blends Alice in Wonderland, the French Quarter, and Lady Gaga's inner thoughts into a visual and tactile treat. The hotel and focal point pool are beautiful, combining into what I think is the current crown jewel of Consortium Holding's collection of cool, quirky, and fun restaurants and places to hang. We all fell in love with Morning Glory's brunches, but it didn't take long to discover (and surmise) their ownership of other stunning projects and places. Kudos to these guys and their exceedingly and much appreciated high standards! What a team!!! And what a happy house of contributing staff members!!! Many thanks to them all. And to the Lobster Benedict and Soufflé Pancakes!!! That's happiness on a plate. 🥞
This place was out of this world. Went for my birthday, a weekend trip from Los Angeles. The perfect hideaway, so romantic, so glamorous, so glorious. Two in-house restaurants and a full bar in your room! If there were curtains, stripes, tassels wallpaper tilework possible to put on furniture walls floors, it's on there. Kind of Art Deco/New Orleans themed...
Recommend the back units unless you are a partier, a teenager, or stone-deaf. The double layered rooms around the pool with their striped awnings and French doors and fans and lounge chairs are gorgeous beyond belief, but there is piped in music all day and most of the evening. Not for us.
The pool was designed by Johnny Weissmuller (of Tarzan fame), lovely lounge chairs rayed down the length, and you can sit outside the bar and just have your morning coffee and dig it.
It's a place you really don't have to go anywhere--we had dinner one night in the Don Quixote room--the food was fantastic, drinks wonderful and the surroundings unbelieveable (we were in the Uber-romantic dark side room--actually had to turn on our phone flashlights to see the our food). Ate each morning in the diner, which also serves outside after 9 am. yum. (There's also a good Russian/Georgian restaurant, Pomegranate, across the street of you like a kind of casserolish cuisine). A memorable birthday, absolutely loved this place.
We had such a good time! The staff were so kind and helpful and the family suite was perfect to stay in with friends! Both restaurants were delicious and reasonably priced and the drinks were fabulous. We will definitely be back!
Location, location, location. This was the original main reason I choose to stay at this lovely hotel. Although you might find a cheaper place several miles away they cannot match the atmosphere and experience. The hotel property is wonderfully unique. I was visiting after Christmas to welcome in the New Year while the noise level can be turned up a notch as this is a popular neighborhood spot especially during this time of year, you can escape the noise level easily in your room. Just as the previous times that I stayed the service provided by the staff was welcoming, professional, and friendly. I keep coming back to stay and am likely to return again.
We absolutely loved our stay! Beautiful surroundings. Lots of fun in the Gutter and delicious food in both restaurants! Will definitely stay again.
Fantastic stay — old Hollywood charm with standout service (Room 161)
I had a wonderful stay at The Lafayette Hotel and will absolutely be back.
The property has a true old-Hollywood vibe that feels intentional, stylish, and fun without being kitschy. The pool area is a standout — beautiful, social, and still relaxing enough to unwind.
I stayed in Room 161, which was excellent. The room was quiet, thoughtfully designed, very comfortable, and the bed was genuinely luxurious. I slept extremely well, which isn’t always easy in a lively boutique hotel.
What truly made the stay special was the staff.
Denise at the front desk was fabulous — welcoming, kind, and incredibly helpful.
Hannah and Todd poolside were impeccable: attentive, friendly, and perfectly paced service.
And in the diner, Taylor’s warmth and Bella’s hard work made every meal feel easy and genuinely pleasant.
The diner itself is a huge plus — excellent breakfast and late-night comfort food right on property.
The location is ideal with quick access to Hillcrest and central San Diego, and Ubers were fast and inexpensive.
Overall, this is one of those hotels that enhances the entire trip rather than just providing a place to sleep. Between the atmosphere, comfort, and exceptional staff, this was a truly lovely stay.
I’ll definitely be back — and The Lafayette is now my go-to hotel for San Diego long weekends.
The hotel is beautiful and was decked out with Christmas decorations. The room was lovely but the mattress needed to be replaced. We ate dinner at Quixote at the hotel. It’s a great place for tapas and margaritas. The shrimp tacos were very large and two will fill you up. After dinner we went to LouLous which is a club with stage and dance floor. We saw a jazz band there and they were great. Later we went to the game room which has 2 pool tables, a bowling lane or 2, foosball table, and some basketball hoop game. The staff at all levels and places were extremely nice and helpful. This was a great date night for us.
We loved every aspect of our stay - the space, the people, the food, the customer service. It was all sooo dialed and special. I will be a long time advocate and support of y'all's! Thanks for everything
This boutique resort nails the vibe from the moment you arrive. The atmosphere feels relaxed but polished, with thoughtful design touches that make it feel special without trying too hard. The staff sets the tone, warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Service feels personal, not scripted.
Dining is a standout. Every meal was memorable, creative dishes, fresh ingredients, and flavors that feel intentional. It’s the kind of place where you plan your day around dinner, not the other way around.
Overall, it’s a hotel that gets the balance right. Great energy, excellent service, and food worth coming back for. Perfect for a weekend escape or a longer stay when you want to slow down and enjoy the experience.
We wanted to have a fab New Years' Overnight....even thought is was too rainy for the pool, the atmosphere was super festive, we had wonderful drinks, dinner, and of course couldn't leave without a stop at the all night diner. We can't wait to some back.
This hotel is DELIGHTFUL! When I visited it was decked out for Christmas which definitely made it even more eclectic! I can’t wait to go back. If you’re looking for a place that cute, fun, trendy, and just plain delightful this is your place!
We had lunch at 11:30 in the American Diner. NO RESERVATIONS taken. First come, first served basis. If you arrive before 11:30, you should get inside with no wait.
Soup, Salads, burgers, sandwiches are offered for lunch at the Diner. I had a grilled cheese sandwich (2 kinds of cheese) with grilled onions on white bread. I also had a bowl of tomato soup served with it.
My husband had a western cheese omelet with hash browns. He said it was rather bland.
The food is rather average.
Order a latte and enjoy the Christmas Decor!
My wife and I just spent a Wednesday night date night here and it was extraordinary. We found parking in the street check and went to our King room on second floor which a peek a boo view of pool. No balcony. We will try that next time. It’s an extra $50 midweek. The holiday decorations are so extraordinary but so is the entire interior design of the rooms. We enjoyed a drink in our room from the most elaborate in room bar I’ve ever seen. Then lucked into a cancellation at Quixote for dinner where the food and drinks were superb. We weren’t quite prepared for the crush of people mid week but this place is very popular. By late morning g we checked out. Left our bags at front desk and enjoyed a most delightful pool side breakfast while many guests were enjoying the pool and the San Diego sunshine. Exemplary service everywhere. Highly recommend.
The Lafayette Hotel is stunning! We stayed for one night , they accommodated us with our 2 small pups. The service is 10/10, friendly amazing staff!!! From concierge, valet, bar, and restaurant staff!! The room was beautiful, the bed was very comfortable. I will say the only downside no fault of the hotel, is it gets busyyyyyy!! Lots of college kids, and very loud if you book a pool side room. However, they provide ear plugs. If you want a unique experience, take in all the beautiful decor, and great service, definitely worth a stay!!!
It's always such an amazing experience. You guys really have the most unique hotel we've ever been to. It's literally the only hotel I've ever been where I could say I totally get why someone would live at a hotel! The vibe here is awesome. You literally never have to leave if you don’t want to. Rooms are so unique and homey in the best way. You can hang out in the room or go down and enjoy the craziness. Lines for drinks at night on the weekends can be intense but the drinks are fantastic. We’ve been to a lot of cool hotels but this one is our favorite. Staff is awesome. I will say I’m not sure I understand the tickets I bought to Lou Lou’s as we didn’t need them but other than that 11/10 for vibes, liveliness and overall feeling. Plus the food is great, boozy milkshakes incredible
The Lafayette is a great spot to stay or even visit. The overall vibe, staff, food/drinks are top notch. You’ll enjoy it.
