Room was good size and very comfortable and clean!
Nothing - dog friendly too so we were grateful!
Absolutely a wonderful place to stay. Staff is exceptional. Hotel is extremely clean everywhere. Beds are very comfortable. Breakfast is good. The wine and cheese hour is a very nice touch.
I suggest valet parking, it’s worth the price.
The location was convenient for me and given the location the price was quite reasonable.
Since it was a very cold few days when I was there, I didn't like that the heating was not working properly. Also, I understand that it's a lot to expect that there will be staff who will be able to drive and park my stick shift car ... but, if I need to be called to my room to park my car myself late at night, because there's no one on staff who can do it, I would at least expect that maybe I don't pay for the full price of valet parking or that the staff is friendlier with me and doesn't act annoyed with how I'm parking my own car in the middle of the night. Didn't have the same problem when I had to leave, but how the situation was handled when I checked in was very disappointing.
Amazing boutique hotel
If you’re looking for a home away from home, look no farther! The Normandy is welcoming and comfortable. The people who work their all do their best to make a guest’s stay a positive experience. It’s in a residential neighborhood and is walking distance to various forms of public transportation.
Disclaimer: DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE RACIALLY PROFILIED AND KICKED OUT
The only reason this establishment didn’t receive a one-star is due to the lovely concierge staff (Jamila and Sophia) I interacted with throughout multiple stays I booked. The actions taken by one of the managers at this hotel, Ms. Kathy Stropki leaves me disappointed and dissatisfied with whoever decided she deserves such a title.
She went into my room with no permission whilst it wasn’t even time for checkout, and there was nothing on my door indicating that I wanted my room to be serviced. Then, she proceeds to go through my personal belongings to find anything she could use to justify my vacating the premises for the following night. As I wondered why I would be kicked out without violating any policies, I was left to conclude that Kathy’s actions were charged with racial bias and prejudice. It’s taken me some time to truly let the gravity of the situation as I’ve been trying to take care of my health.
I was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis less than 60 days before this negative interaction and simply wanted to treat myself to a nice hotel stay. I’m a native Washingtonian with familial ties to the hospitality industry and this encounter is inexcusable and unacceptable.
Unfortunately, this is not my only criticism. While I have the luxury to go to 4 and 5-star hotels, I had believed The Normandy to be a safe and inviting place for me, but I was wrong. During the graveyard shift, around 2-3am, I was harassed and subsequently sexually assaulted by another traveler staying at the hotel. The manager seemed to be dozing off and was not aware of the activity taking place on the patio (despite this area being visible from the front desk). While no action was taken upon this manager to help me during this ordeal, I was targeted by another for simply being a young black woman who didn’t “look the part” to be able to stay at such a property. Moral of the story, black women are targeted here and not protected…
Excellent experience. Sophia, the evening front desk person was excellent.
We have no complaints. We will certainly stay there again and will recommend The Normandy to our friends!
Breakfast and staff
Photos are deceiving as rooms are somewhat gloomy and plain but still comfortable.
I liked the staff. They were very warm and friendly.
The pressure of the water was very low. Another thing was the deposit. The deposit is still not released which gives me a big disconfort.
Cute hotel with great potential. Workers were sweet and accommodating. Rooms were outdated, had strong fragrances and lack of shade from the outside lights.
Everything was wonderful.
There was no parking. Valet was the only option at $50 A day. That was disappointing and took away from the weekend budget. If I knew ahead of time I would made changes.
destination fees seems too much for me.
The variety of breakfast
What a relaxing place to stay - I’ll be back! Well-managed by Kathleen and team, perfect service (the day of the snow storm), elegant and functional amenities, a well-working heating, good mattress and bedding, a nice smell in the hallway…!
The staff was supernice, the hotel was clean and cozy. Everything was supergood. Only improvement could be at breakfast table - it is not bad though but would like to see more options there.
