From the lobby to the guest room hallways, the property is beautifully decorated and a welcoming. The scent in the lobby itself is intoxicating and makes you want to sink into the leather sofas and relax immediately. We stayed in the fire pit terrace room and made use of the terrace nightly - it was fantastic. The hotel was quiet and peaceful and the amenities afforded us with our room made my wife and I feel special - like members of an elite club. Everyone we met on the staff, from the front desk, to valets, were kind and helpful. A great hotel, in one of the nicer parts of downtown. It was very convenient having both a great restaurant and bar onsite but there are quite a few fun spots within just a few blocks for when you want some variety. We would absolutely stay here again, without hesitation.
Everything except the WIFI. People were great, friendly, attentive, overall a great experienced.

Great location in the heart of beautiful Portland. The hotel is gorgeous. Comfortable beds, spacious rooms and attentive staff.
Room was spacious, staff were pleasant, bed was extremely comfortable, and they even had complementary umbrellas, which was nice because it rained almost every day. I would stay here again.
Espacio de la pieza, escritorio cómodo para trabajar, ubicación
This was my first stay at the Sentinel. I generally stay in Portland approx 6 times per year for a mix of business/family at a different hotel, but this popped up on my Amex Hotel Fine Hotels, so I decided to give it a try. First off, Outstanding Customer Service for start to finish. For an older historic property, the rooms are quiet, comfortable with nice amenities. The hotel has a very warm and comfortable atmosphere. This will be my new first choice accommodation in Portland.
Absolutely excellent space for a wedding group! We got a couple suites to spend time together as a group in and also had our own individual rooms for rest! Loved it!
An excellent knowledgeable staff make their. Prices are fair snd their location is ideal to explore. Loads of ethnic food. Available within a few blocks. They have a pretty good restaurant and parking us next door. Easy location to uber or Lyft from snd venues for parties.
Our recent stay at the Sentinel Hotel was awesome. No other way to describe it. The gentleman on duty at the time we checked in (April 26, about 7 p.m.), who incidentally was on duty the next day at check-out time also, was the nicest guy. (All the staff were great.) So friendly and welcoming. I shared with him that we were staying there because my beloved aunt and uncle, now long passed, stayed at this hotel on their honeymoon in 1924—when it was the Seward Hotel. I only know this because I received my aunt’s bridal book not long ago from a cousin.
Due to time constraints, we were only able to stay one night there, but we absolutely loved it, and hope to return one day. So classy, so beautiful, so—authentic. From the ornate ceilings to the fireplace in our room, we felt like we’d traveled back to the early years of the last century.
Thank you, Sentinel Hotel, and everyone who keeps this place so clean, so perfect, and running so smoothly. Our short stay is a memory I will carry with me always.
NOTE: We did not eat there, or use the bar. Unfortunately, we had very little time.
Convenient location in downtown Portland. Average as far as luxury hotels go. Excellent service. Charges for everything were above and beyond even other luxury hotels. I won't stay again. Upgraded room was extremely unimpressive and basic
Although the information on the website was reassuring that our stay would be family friendly, it was difficult to keep our two children comfortable (pull out sofa bed). We were given communication by front desk (access to sound machine) that wasn’t followed through with (told they would check the following day, no communication was given), and several details to accommodate 4 people in our room was overlooked.
Although the room was clean, the room at the end of the hall way amazing, we will most likely not rerun to stay at the sentinel again.
The coolest old hotel I’ve ever stayed at!
Very lovely hotel. Was treated kindly and the were very nice to my puppy. Would stay there again for sure!!
Fantastic experience. Booked my trip via American Express with my platinum card and received an early check in and $100 hotel credit which I used at the restaurant. Location was perfect, walking distance to everything downtown and a block from the light rail. Room was comfortable and I even got an upgrade to the 6th floor. Will definitely stay again next time I’m in town.
So loud - the bar downstairs is nice until it becomes a sad nightclub at around 10:00. The music is incredibly loud. You can't hear it on the upper floors, however, but the train/bus parked out front will cause noise and vibration until 2:00am. If you want to stay here, ask for a room off of the main street where the bus sits at night. We stayed here primarily for the Serene Wine lounge - which we've loved in the past, but is now just an overpriced bar experience with not enough staff. Not at all like a wine tasting experience. Very disappointing.
A Beautiful Hotel and You Can Bank on a Good Experience! What a cool place to stay. We stayed here two nights while on our California-Washington-Oregon road trip to see some national parks. The hotel was an old bank, and if you go down to the fitness room, you will be in for a fun surprise - the old bank teller windows and the room that was the vault has a punching bag in it. Tall ceilings, a finely appointed lobby, free produce and flavored water for your enjoyment in the foyer, timely valet car service, amply staffed front desk, quick elevators... Our floor had very nice natural light in the hallway, well-tended plants, and a suite at the end, fully loaded with food and drinks and places to sit and read the paper - it must have been a business/ executive level floor or something of that sort. Our room was enormous - a sitting room with a desk and sofa, along with a very upscale bathroom and bedroom with a fireplace. A luxury hotel for sure. From the hotel, we were able to walk to many of the places we wanted to see and eat at, and we also did some driving. Portland, like all big cities, definitely has some nicer areas and some not as nice areas, and you walk briskly when needed, and so it goes. I am very glad we stayed here.
A fantastic stay in the heart of downtown Portland (which for the record is NOT on fire). If you too are under the impression it currently is, I would challenge you to do your nation a favor and change the channel, or better yet read a book to sharpen your deductive reasoning skills.
Thank you!
