So loud - the bar downstairs is nice until it becomes a sad nightclub at around 10:00. The music is incredibly loud. You can't hear it on the upper floors, however, but the train/bus parked out front will cause noise and vibration until 2:00am. If you want to stay here, ask for a room off of the main street where the bus sits at night. We stayed here primarily for the Serene Wine lounge - which we've loved in the past, but is now just an overpriced bar experience with not enough staff. Not at all like a wine tasting experience. Very disappointing.
A Beautiful Hotel and You Can Bank on a Good Experience! What a cool place to stay. We stayed here two nights while on our California-Washington-Oregon road trip to see some national parks. The hotel was an old bank, and if you go down to the fitness room, you will be in for a fun surprise - the old bank teller windows and the room that was the vault has a punching bag in it. Tall ceilings, a finely appointed lobby, free produce and flavored water for your enjoyment in the foyer, timely valet car service, amply staffed front desk, quick elevators... Our floor had very nice natural light in the hallway, well-tended plants, and a suite at the end, fully loaded with food and drinks and places to sit and read the paper - it must have been a business/ executive level floor or something of that sort. Our room was enormous - a sitting room with a desk and sofa, along with a very upscale bathroom and bedroom with a fireplace. A luxury hotel for sure. From the hotel, we were able to walk to many of the places we wanted to see and eat at, and we also did some driving. Portland, like all big cities, definitely has some nicer areas and some not as nice areas, and you walk briskly when needed, and so it goes. I am very glad we stayed here.
A fantastic stay in the heart of downtown Portland (which for the record is NOT on fire). If you too are under the impression it currently is, I would challenge you to do your nation a favor and change the channel, or better yet read a book to sharpen your deductive reasoning skills.
Thank you!
Exceptional staff in every interaction they went above and beyond for our family. From the front desk to valet and room service. Everyone was genuinely kind and caring. While the building itself is beautiful and well kept, the people made our stay special.
Absolutely perfect- friendly, helpful, professional staff. Safe, clean location; walkable to everything. I traveled solo and with a pup…I won’t stay anywhere else- this team and property knock it out of the park!
Absolutely wonderful and enjoyable stay! The Sentinel was the perfect "home" base for my trip to Portland (solo + 12 YO son). Every team member we interacted with was kind, knowledgeable and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Room service was superb and we felt so comfortable in the well-appointed double room we selected - the robes, linens, comfortable chairs and bathroom amenities were excellent. Already dreaming about our next visit to Portland and the Sentinel will be at the top of our list. Oh! And the wine hour in the lobby was an unexpected bonus - very enjoyable in the evening after hours of travel and sightseeing.
Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Great location for public transportation or walking. Balcony was relaxing and gorgeous. Jakes Grill had a pretty solid Eggs Benedict and great beer selection.
The bed we had was very firm and hard to sleep on. Alot of back pain by morning. With a 5 star hotel i would expect better quality beds, especially at a $300 a night price point. I had $100 stays on my trip with better beds.
Our stay at The Sentinel was great! The staff was amazing, service was excellent and the rooms were nice and clean.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Sentinel. Very cool vibes here. A good blend of old style early 1900s architecture combined with modern day conveniences. The rooms were very quaint and cozy. Meredith and the staff at the front desk took very good care of us. We would definitely stay here again. Jake’s grill was also fabulous. The hotel is also very close to lots of activities in the city.
Great location in a nice area of downtown Portland. Good restaurant right in the hotel, friendly, accommodating, and classy staff.
Great hotel for those who like a boutique style hotel. It is an older building but they have modernized appropriately. The room was gorgeous. The only thing that didn't match was the standard tube/walk-in shower experience we've gotten used to these days, but he size of the room and comfort definitely makes up for it. I'll definitely stay again.
GREAT location too. Easy walking to the Pearl and in my opinion, an easy walk to 23rd Street as well. It's a little further (20-30mins walk) but I don't mind and love seeing a city by foot. Waterfront is not far either.
Amazing experience. Room was amazing. Beautiful view from the balcony, hotel was in the center of everything, was able to walk to almost everything we wanted to do. Staff was wonderful and professional.
Beautifully restored classic hotel. Large room, comfy bed, friendly staff, great location!
The shower water pressure was dismal, but instant hot water. The Roman blind in the bathroom was broken
This hotel is beautiful! We stayed in both a standard room and a suite upstairs due to some unexpected construction noise outside of our first room. Although they were both beautiful rooms, the rooms upstairs was truly exceptional with the roof in the hallways made to allow sunlight in to make you feel as if you are outside when you exit your room rather than in a hotel. The thing that stood out the most about this hotel was the customer service. It was above and beyond. We would most definitely stay here again. The comfort of knowing that they will take care of you no matter what unexpected glitches may occur is so reassuring and what makes this hotel stand out above so many others.
I loved the Sentinel
What awesome staff
Mike the Bellman was superb, full of knowledge and so helpful
Jake’s restaurant and bar had great food and fresh drinks
We ate all of our meals there because it was that good!
I had a great experience at The Sentinel. Even though we were vacationing in Portland, the hotel was so comfortable that we just wanted to stay in. The decor was classy and unique and the temperature and environment was comfortable and clean. The bed was what a hotel at this stature should feel like. The staff was friendly and helpful and we had a great time in the neighboring bar and restaurant. Highly recommend for your next stay in PDX
