Wonderful old building
My husband and I arrived for a two night stay immediately after our very busy wedding day, and were so happy to be here. Warm welcome, very helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to make us relaxed. Upgraded to a gorgeous 4 poster bed room (the Oak Room) and treated to some complimentary fizz with our dinner! All of the hotel staff were so polite and welcoming, the restaurant staff were excellent, and the food fantastic! We ate breakfast twice at the hotel, as well as 1 lunch and 1 dinner. Can’t fault any of the meals, very high quality food and quick service. The bar was quirky and a good range of drinks!
We also made full use of the spa facilities and massage options. All facilities were very clean, high quality, and never too busy.
Overall, a 5* stay and loved every moment! Can’t wait to return.
Beautiful building and good spa facilities
They appeared short staffed and the wait for food and drinks was quite long. The staff were all lovely.
Love the hotel, food this visit was particularly great and the welcome Ar reception and the spa is always genuine and impressive but… had to beg for a wine list (3 times!) and generally noticed creaky and inconsistent service in the bar and restaurant.
My mum and I went for a morning spa day at the spread eagle and had the loveliest time. Of all the spas I’ve been to, this is the best one. The hotel is beautiful and the spa is really nice. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. I had an express facial with Liaya which was bliss! She really took time to look at my skin and use the best products and offer fab advice after. Her technique when doing the facial was brilliant and I felt super relaxed. Can’t recommend her enough! The only slight downside was the lunch. As a vegetarian there was only 1 option which was broccoli in sauce. It tasted nice but I was starving after 😆 All in all a really lovely day though. Thanks spread eagle team! X
Fantastic hotel - did not disappoint. Old age charm, good service and food with the added bonus of a spa. Enjoyed our overnight stay for my husbands birthday and was gifted a glass of fizz each to celebrate! Will definitely come again…
We stayed here quite recently. It is easy to find with a lovely big carpark and is a good base for exploring the area including Chichester which is about 20 minutes drive away.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very old with lots of interesting antiques around and a real fire in the bar in the evenings. The spa wasn't too busy and I enjoyed swimming in the lovely pool although it was a little strange to have to walk through the restaurant and conservatory in a dressing gown to get there!
We enjoyed our stay but there were a few things that didn't meet our expectations given the price bracket -
We upgraded to a Midhurst suite but the room still wasn't great, the bed linen and sanitaryware were clean but the rest of the room was grubby, the chairs, carpet and curtains were not clean and the paintwork was all scuffed and the bathroom door bashed!
Our first included dinner was very good including the service. The second, although the same menu, was disappointing especially the dried up lemon polenta cake and the wine turned up halfway through the main course. The second cooked breakfast food was better than the first but the two young girls serving didn't seem to be able to cope, getting orders wrong. They ran out of yoghurt and even marmalade by 9am! It always annoys me when there is a supplement for smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
I wanted to feed this information back but the follow up email to our stay didn't have a working link to do so.
We might stay again if we were in the area we got a reasonably priced deal.
Great to have use of the lovely spa facilities. Absolutely stunning building. Excellent dinner. Very friendly staff. We had a lovely visit and will be back!
Only slight (niche!) grumble was the suitability of our room for hot weather. We were on the top floor without air conditioning, and it was the middle of a heat wave. Not the hotels fault, and they did provide a fan when we asked, but we struggled to sleep due to the temperature (30 degrees in our room overnight, with the fan!).
Beautiful hotel. Clean, very friendly and superb food.
Slightly on the pricey side.
Very nice good location
All good - meal disappointing
The history
The room was small but very cozy and clean. The bed was comfortable, there was a coffee machine in the room.
The breakfast and dinner were excellent and the staff very kind.
The massage at the SPA excellent.
Maybe just the spa could have been improved. Other than the pool the other facilities were very small and would benefit from a renovation, but all in all was very pleasant!
Dinner on the sunday evening was better than expected and a big shout out to Horace , charming man
Breakfast was also above expectations
