The dinner in the dungeon was a waste of money and time. Was a tasting and it was terrible and overpriced. Stick to there other restaurant and understand this was eich people mess?
Room was very dated and bathroom was cracked tiles and felt dirty. Castle is stunning outside and maybe going through renovations. Staff were good.
Loved staying at this castle, so cute and a fun experience. The breakfast was delicious and the bar had great cocktails and friendly staff. The rooms were clean and cozy. Would definitely recommend staying here.
paid to stay in a castle, but ended up in an auxiliary building 5 min walk away from the castle to carry suitcases down 3 flights. They helped us take it up the first time. and the Staff was excellent. I was just disappointed and wanted to stay in a castle room.
Castle
Wait staff very friendly a few others weren’t the most friendly not rude just not the most friendly.
Clean rooms
Going though renovations which are going to look great when complete
Amazing opportunity to stay in a real castle with such a rich history. The staff, especially Jon, were outstanding. Everyone was so accommodating. It seems like they have been making constant improvements to the property. The spa closes early (6p) and several amenities in the spa were out of order. Be aware that the archery and falconry, although on the property, are run by a separate company, closes at 5p, and requires a reservation. The remote location is beautiful and quiet, but be aware that getting a rideshare car is nearly impossible. The taxi company they use is very reasonable, but getting back to Dalhousie from Rosslyn Chapel was nearly $50 (I think due to the remote location). Great event for small parties/weddings. The dungeon dinner was fantastic, but be aware there is only one option (chef’s 7-course) that was $125 per person with no separate option for kids (more expansive, cheaper options at the other on-site restaurant, the Orangery). The complimentary breakfast was also delicious, made to order + continental. If we ever come back to Scotland, I’d come again despite checking staying in a castle off my bucket list.
Was fun to dine in the Dungeon, and see the armour, shields and swords
Excellent staff, delicious food, beautiful surroundings inside and out. We look forward to the completion of the renovations.
Wanted to experience a spooky castle and have dinner in the dungeon.
It was a beautiful place to stay.
My husband wanted to sleep in a castle, well he did!
Given the age (over 800 years), it is well maintained. The castle itself and the grounds are just beautiful. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Things to keep in mind:
- it's about 35 minutes from downtown Edinburgh, you can Uber to get to the hotel but have to take a taxi (which cost more) to leave the hotel.
- the toilets don't have a very strong flush (lol).
- wifi is not good, so make sure you have a good roaming plan; download some movies to watch in the evenings. OR for those that drink, there is a lovely bar and a beautiful library for the book lovers.
- I enjoyed their meals but the portions are small.
If you want to experience sleeping in a castle, I highly recommend Dalhousie! It was a lovely stay.
Staff were so friendly and helpful. Castle grounds were nice. Castle itself was nice as well. There is currently scaffolding covering one side. There was a wedding there so we couldn't go into the library cuz it was reserved for them.
Quiet property with great amendments. Close enough to go into the city if desired.
We arrived at 11pm and were told we booked a room in Castle Rock not the main Castle. Finding Castle Rock in the dark with no signs or street lights was a nightmare. When we managed to find Castle Rock, it looked like a deserted house from a horror movie. Pitch black with no lights on anywhere. We eventually came back to the main castle and decided to upgrade to stay in the Castle, there was no one at the front desk, we used the walkie-talkie at the front desk, still nothing. After almost 15mins, someone came to the front desk.
It’s one of the worst experiences had.
Such a neat place to stay. Close to town but secluded and peaceful. Rooms make it feel so authentic
Great staff!!!!
Beautiful wedding venue and staff was fantastic!!
Beautiful and well maintained property, with a wonderful staff
Beautiful, but definitely not accessible. Not a problem for us, thankfully, and we had a wondeful time (and got a good workout going up and down all those stairs)
