1 Star – Extremely Disappointing
We stayed at the Marriott in Sonoma expecting a solid, comfortable experience and left completely underwhelmed. The room felt tired and neglected — outdated furnishings, visible wear, and a general lack of cleanliness that you wouldn’t expect from a Marriott property. Housekeeping was inconsistent, and basic requests took far too long to be addressed (when they were addressed at all).
Service was impersonal and unhelpful. Front desk staff seemed disinterested, and there was little follow-through on anything we asked for. For the price we paid, the overall experience felt overpriced and underwhelming. We won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend it.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely consider returning. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and feels wonderfully secluded while still being in the heart of Sonoma. We stayed in one of the cottages, which was charming with a cozy outdoor fireplace, but much smaller than we expected given the price. We were traveling with two young children, and the pull-out sofa only converted into a single bed, which made sleeping arrangements difficult for a family of four. We were also told we had been upgraded at check-in, but it appeared to be the same room type we had originally booked. The beds themselves weren't as comfortable as we expected for a luxury resort.
That said, the rest of our stay was excellent. The pool was fantastic for families, with plenty of comfortable lounge seating for relaxing, though we'd love to see the pool menu expanded with a few more kid-friendly options like smoothies. The hot tub was nice but fairly small and basic.
The dining was a highlight. We had breakfast at the casual restaurant both mornings, and the birria breakfast tacos were absolutely delicious. Dinner at Wit & Wisdom was outstanding, with exceptional food, drinks, service, and ambiance. The steak, seafood pot pie, and gourmet candy bar dessert were all excellent.
This is a lovely resort for couples and families alike, with a great location for exploring Sonoma. My only wish is that the cottages felt a bit more spacious and luxurious, with better sleeping arrangements for families, to better reflect the premium price. Overall, it was a beautiful stay with memorable dining and a relaxing atmosphere.
This should NOT be an Autograph property. The rooms (6 different rooms), including a cottage jr suite, were all sub par with shabby dilapidated furniture, minimal towels, and missing basic amenities. Pool area is terrible as all cushions are stained, deck area chipped and missing paint everywhere. Lobby and restaurant were in more acceptable condition, but the rest was not even as nice as a Hampton Inn level of hotel. The only positive was it was quiet. Shame on Marriott. Very over priced for condition of the hotel. I rarely write a bad review and took those on here with a grain of salt, but they were not exaggerating.
The property was exceptional, and everything was conveniently accessible. It was very entertaining with hidden entertainment that was sentimental to the property; make a wish in a bottle, yoga onsite, spa, games, food etc.
The spa was a ways from the rooms; not necessarily a bad thing but I did walk a decent way. The water wasn’t tasty at least not in certain areas.
I’ve traveled my entire life for business and now after retirement and I have never ever had such a wonderful place to stay. The staff was absolutely amazing and fabulous and fantastic. The service is first class plus. Truly this place its location cleanliness staff everything about it is worth coming to.
We’ve stayed at the Lodge a couple times over 4th of July and it is surprisingly average for the cost. First, the cottages, specifically the outdoor space, is oversold. The room we booked was supposed to have an outdoor fireplace. Instead, we had a couple of outdoor chairs from Home Depot and a lot of unusable space.
The pool gets crazy crowded but is fun for kids. Seating is a premium so get there early or you’ll be searching for a space to sit. The hotel is very helpful at moving chairs and tables around though. Drinks are fine but the margarita is terrible. Again, the staff is really great and accommodating.
The food is just not very good. And there are zero, ZERO, 0, options for kids. Which is surprising due to the fact that there are so many kids at the hotel.
The shuttle to square is great and convenient.
Train town is directly across the street too and is great for an hour with small kids.
Also, we witnessed a few people without kids in the pool who were clearly very disturbed by the amount of kids in the pool and were passive aggressive towards very young kids. If you don’t like kids, please go somehow else.
Room is descent but not amazing. Overall, it’s a 3 star Bonvoy property. Not as luxurious as they sell it but not terrible. Just know you’re being oversold.
Parking close to your unit; very warm front desk and staff at pool and restaurants; Walkable to Sonoma Square
Weird bathtub (overly large with high step-in)
If you like an expensive hotel:
- where your view is garbage dumpsters
- there is mysterious fluid stains all over the shades (see photos)
- you pay a resort fee but it does not give you access to the hotel sauna
- you can't find parking on the property because they're hosting a wedding event
Then The Lodge is for you.
Words cannot describe how incredible there staff is at the THE SPA. I had the wonderful opportunity to getting a massage from Charlotte who was the most incredible and gifted person I have ever met in a SPA setting. Charlotte provided the most amazing experience and from the moment I met her I new I got the right person. She gave me this massage that was so incredible it took me such a long time to write this review because I am still glowing from it. The massage was seamless and it felt almost magical as her talented hands massaged away all the stress and tension. I am planning on returning to THE SPA just so I can get another service with Charlotte.
Walls are paper thin so you can hear everything next door. On complaint, one of us was moved to overlook the parking, and I was told I could have a room at the back of the property. I emailed to complain and no response.
This is a great place close to the plaza in Sonoma. We’ve been coming here for years and it’s always fun and comfortable. We were celebrating my parents’ anniversary and hosted our dinner at the property. The food was pricey but good, not great. We got the room in the back and it was perfect! Fireplace privacy and plenty of room for 11 people. The cottages are great. It’s not snobby but great place to spend a weekend!
The food. Pricey and not great but that’s true for most of Sonoma except for 1-2 places
An excellent experience. I had some concerns regarding the rooms, based on reviews. I contacted the hotel to learn more and came to understand some 3rd party sites had provided incorrect photos, so guests were unhappy. I had the opposite experience. The front desk team of Jesus and Lili could not have been more helpful. I let them know what I was looking for and it was accommodated. The service in both onsite restaurants was excellent. The vibe is very chill, very Sonoma. Not Napa crazy.
If you are going to relax and enjoy yourself this is a great location.
The room was great. Had a balcony, which we love. They have a concierge which helped us get access to some of the wineries. The hotel property itself was beautiful. There was a market close by which was convenient for us.
The property has two restaurants, which was nice. A little pricey. It would be nice if there was a cafe or coffee bar that offered pastries or something on the lighter side.
We were in the area for a wedding, and we spent 3 nights here with my two married children and their spouses. It is a great property with Tuscany feel. Got upgrades, free breakfast which was excellent. We could get a late check-out. Service was good. The only thing that is a drawback is dated rooms and their cleanliness.
Loved this hotel. We asked for a different room to the one allocated and they found us a great room in the main lodge. The hotel has a really nice feeling about it, staff are great, and the rooms and public areas are lovely. Breakfast was very good as well. Would highly recommend
Staff was outstanding, room was very comfortable.
Hot tub had only one jet working and not very well
WILLIAM and the staff at the Benicias kitchen went above and beyond. Everyone at the lodge was more than cordial but friendly and kind. They cared about my mom’s birthday and made great additions to our trip. Lovely facilities including the pool and restaurants. Such a lovely place!
