Location
There was no mention prior to check-in that the hotel was under construction. The dust, the smells of plasters and paint bothered my allergies so much. The noise of banging and tools didn't help either. I paid over $500 for two nights. Then, the price dropped almost $100 before check in, and the price was not honored. At check-in, I gave the gentleman my card and told him I wanted to use that instead of the card on file. He never even took the card info and told me I was good. I was charged to the card I told him I DIDNT want to use. It absolutely was not worth it.
I always look for a Courtyard Marriott first when I'm booking any short stay. I know I will get good value for a high quality, clean and updated room. Even after a long drive or a late night I know I will have an easy check in and a good night sleep. The Providence Courtyard met these high standards but the staff exceeded them.
The new carpet smell from the renovations. Air filters would be helpful.
I want to give this hotel some love because I was honestly hesitant to stay here based on the reviews I had read—and I am super glad I booked here anyway! Yes, the hotel is currently being refurbished. My floor (6) was totally finished and absolutely beautiful. I had a corner room with views of two sides of the city, including the Capitol.
There is a little dust but I never noticed noise. I did have an issue at check in with my card not working for parking but someone walked with me to make sure it worked once they reprogrammed it (I think the other person at the desk simply forgot to).
The workout area was a good size. It says it opens at 6am, but I was able to use my key to get in at 5:50am (was in town for a conference so had a lot of early mornings).
Speaking of conferences, this was a very short walk to the Convention Center. It was just over a block, and there was Cafe Nero for amazing coffee on the way.
You could also walk to the Capitol, train station and Providence Place (huge mall). I would totally stay here again, especially nice the are totally finished with the renovations.
Really nice staff in the lobby. Welcoming and genuinely kind. Grateful!😇
The first room we got wasn’t even cleaned. The second room we got the air conditioner hardly work. It was unbearably hot. The halls were t vacuumed ever. I would like it if I was refunded for my stay.
The location was great, I was able to walk to everything I wanted to see. The bed was super comfortable.
The elevator was broken, so I had to wait on an employee to take me up from the lobby. The bathroom was a bit outdated and a bit musty.
The location was very close to downtown and the freeways making it very accessible
First room - the ac didn’t work. In both rooms, the height of the shower was barely 7 ft, as someone who is 6’6” this was not enjoyable. There was one morning when the entire bistro was shut down to be cleaned and no breakfast was available. There was another evening where the bartender didn’t show up and so the bistro was closed.
Having to pay for parking is absolutely terrible.
Incomprehensible how screwed up the reservation and the front desk were. Couldn’t get in or out of the parking area I paid $34 to use. Still waiting to see if they can fix charging me when the reservation was using points.
Location and ease of early check in.
Dirty, I saw a bug on my luggage.
To start with I’m a Marriott rewards member and used points to reserve a room with a king bed. After a long drive and checking in, we got to our room to find a queen bed. So I went back down downstairs to the desk and noted that we had requested a king bed. They switched the room, but no apology, no acknowledgment of a mistake. The room itself is fine but the toilet paper holder is coming out of the wall in the bathroom. But the worst part - and my regret from not reading other reviews - is the road noise. Drivers in Providence either a) don’t have a muffler b) rev their engines at every light or c) both. Worst night of sleep in a long time.
