Not a 5 Star
Pros:

Dear Management,

I would like to share some honest feedback regarding our stay at Alila Ubud so far.

Unfortunately, the experience has not met the expectations of a 5-star property. The reception staff have been noticeably unfriendly, and overall service from various team members has felt unwelcoming and disinterested. Several staff members struggle to communicate in English, which has made basic interactions unnecessarily difficult.

The rooms feel old and dated, and the towels are worn and fraying, which is disappointing for a hotel of this category. In addition, the overall operation appears disorganised, lacking the polish and attention to detail one would expect from a luxury brand.

At this stage, the experience is definitely not reflective of a 5-star standard, and I felt it important to bring this to your attention.

I trust this feedback will be taken seriously and I look forward to seeing whether improvements can be made during the remainder of our stay.

A Must For Anyone Who Wants Luxury In Nature
Pros:

Alila Ubud is a truly special place. It’s not just the breathtaking jungle that surrounds you, but the wonderful staff who always go above and beyond. Yuni and Widi are especially wonderful, but everyone treats me with such care that I feel genuinely honoured. And this isn’t unique to me. Every guest is welcomed with the same heartfelt generosity.

The air feels invigorating, the monkeys are cheeky yet endlessly fascinating, the rooms are beautiful, and the food is consistently delicious. For anyone who loves nature, this is a place you should experience at least once.

Memorable Stay with Outstanding Staff
Pros:

I stayed at Alila Ubud for four nights and had an incredible experience thanks to the staff and the thoughtful activities they curated. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of great options. The room was always kept spotless, and you might even catch a monkey strolling past your porch.

I joined several of the complimentary activities, including the rice paddy field walk, which I really enjoyed. A special thanks to Wayan Suasti, who took me to the local market, introduced me to local cuisine, and taught me how to cook Balinese dishes.

Alila Ubud also offers a complimentary 30-minute photoshoot on the property. I shared the style I wanted with Ryan, and he brought it to life beautifully. I ended up purchasing the full set of photos because the shots were that good. I look forward to staying here again when I come back to Bali.

Fantastic stay for 5 nights!
Pros:

We can’t fault our stay! Everything we needed was available and staff are absolutely incredible - so helpful, friendly and always smiling. Right from checking in (welcome drink was great after travelling long!) until we checked out was a delight. Food and drinks were all great from coffee to cocktails. We also loved our outdoor shower and visits from the monkeys in the morning ! Also the free shuttle bus to Ubud centre is a great help.

Surpassed expectations
Pros:

From the moment we arrived at this hotel we were looked after. Cold towels and refreshing water while our bags were taken to the room. Late lunch looking over that wonderful pool. Complimentary crisps and dip, Sauvignon Blanc refreshing and light. We had tripped into complimentary afternoon tea.

Service was exemplary.

We didn’t have the most expensive room but had a luxury feel, view from the balcony looking over the jungle valley.

Cycling arranged plus a trek organised. Massages cheaper than the village could offer. Complimentary shuttle service took us back and forth to Ubud.

Delicious breakfast with everything you could want.

Wonderful Stay
Pros:

A wonderful experiance where the staff are just wonderful, the jungle surrounings make this the perfect setting for peace and quiet and the food is delicious. We stayed in a deluxe room overlooking the jungle, perfect to wake up to the surrounding views. The room was a good size with lovely comfortable beds. The food is delicious and always served with a friendly smile from the helpful staff. The infinity pool is amazing. I would definatly recommend Alila Ubud as a place to stay if you want peace and quiet away from the busy town of Ubud

If hotels were made in heaven
Pros:

This hotel has exceeded my expectations in every way. Staff are so helpful, knowledgeable and kind. The hotel is beautiful laid out, taking advantage of the jungle canopy.

The pool water feels soft and inviting, no strong chlorine smells. Our room has such a charm you don’t want to leave. The bed made of clouds.

Food is delicious, making me want to try more and more foods I’ve never eaten before.

Spa treatments leave you floating away.

Rainforest paradise under stated luxury with a sustainable feel
Pros:

From the moment we arrived team made us feel like family with a humble greeting at every point. Dayu the GM should be so proud of the crew. Food, drinks, service was high class Balinese hospitality. We look forward to returning soon. But before that we go to Alila Seminyak after our next visit to the Gili Islands

Wonder property, great services and good value
Pros:

The service of the hotel was excellent, special mention for the head host Tomy, the most experienced hostess in the restaurant Sri, the young porter Twi and the talented photographer Ryan. They went out of the way to help and to welcome us and created a lifelong memory for our 33rd anniversary

Iconic pool and beautiful surroundings, but....
Pros:

We choose this hotel because of its iconic pool, and it is really iconic, no doubt. And surrounded by jungle, the area is spectacular. But that is the hotel's only plus point.
The room is small, and only has the basic furniture. 1 chair in a double room, and 1 small closet. The shower and bathtub are outdoors in a walled internal courtyard, which is nice. The daily service of the room is terrible. A small hair left in the sink is still there in the evening, so the sink has not been cleaned. An empty shampoo bottle left in the shower is not taken away. There is nowhere to go so you must have all the meals in the hotel. Food is average at expensive prices (comparing to local prices, it is still cheap to Western standards) and the restaurant staff constantly tries to upsell you to a point where it is annoying. As an example, they ask if you want water, and we said "still", and they came with 2 large bottles of still water, opened both so they could charge us for 2 bottles. Going anywhere is a challenge, the local Gojek app (local Uber) offers limited possibilities. The hotel terribly overcharges if you ask them for a taxi. As an example, we asked them for a taxi to Ubud, 6.5 km, and they charged the same rate as what we paid from Denpassar airport to get to the hotel (40 km). They rip you off with a smile. Bottom line, this hotel is definitely not luxury, and not worth the 5 stars they claim.

Mixed Feelings
Pros:

Such mixed feelings about this hotel. So I will write pros and cons;

Pros

Staff are wonderful and so so helpful
Setting is very unique and beautiful. You really are in the middle of nature
The pools are amazing
Rooms with sunken bathtubs are pretty cool
Food is delicious
Great location to get out and explore bali - rice paddy fields, waterfalls, etc
You can hire a driver through reception, we did, his name was Newman and he was absolutely brilliant.

Cons

I never knew nature could be so deafening. The creatures/animals were so loud all day and all night. Some of them sounded like a car alarm going off, not kidding.
The monkeys can be naughty and steal your food from the resturant, this happened to us
The rooms are not properly sealed with gaps everywhere, including big gaps under the door. As as result of this all sorts of creatures will come into your room whether you like it or not. This includes the usual bugs like spider, etc but also means lizards can freely come in and out of your room. We did not realise this the first night. We nievely thought the room was sealed better than it was. But the second night just as we were going to bed we spotted huge lizards and spiders in our room. Maintenance came out and they were fantastic with dealing with them, but I suspect its a bit of a PR stunt as they know your room will be filled with all the creatures hiding in all the crevices. When we checked out the next day we woke to more lizards on the ceiling and we could see lizard poo on the floor of our room. We also got woken in the night to the sound of lizards falling from the ceiling which wasn't exactly relaxing.

Perhaps we are just the wrong clientele for this hotel, but as we booked a 5 star hotel we thought we would be sealed off from nature at night-time, and able to get a good nights sleep, but that is not the case here.

Such a shame as the staff, location, food was perfect, but we barely slept, and dreaded going back to the room and turning the lights off at night time.

Peaceful
Pros:

As soon as we arrived felt relaxed surrounded by jungle and the sounds of the jungle. Checking was fast and the staff were lovely. Our room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The outdoor bath and rain shower was wonderful. Breakfast was very good with different menu choices every day from Western to Balinese dishes. Both restaurants on the property served good quality food. The yoga classes on Sunday and Wednesday was great because the resort is very isolated and because of the traffic travelling to a yoga studio was stressful. The wild monkeys were a wonderful distraction and fun to watch. I would highly recommend Alila for anyone who wants to unwind and wants peace for a few days.

SUPERIOR ROOM IS THE BASIC
Pros:

Good location but our room described as Superior, we were told was the basic. It was tired and needed maintenance- old furniture. Dangerous corners of bed. DANGEROUS hot water and no sign to ensure cold run at same time. Tiny bathroom. Wanted $250 per night to upgrade. We had paid so much so suffered it. They had run out of coconut water for breakfast (omg we were in a jungle). Pool was nice. Afternoon tea underwhelming. Totally disappointed.

The most amazing pool and views
Pros:

The location of Alila cannot be faulted. The mountain views are breathtaking and I enjoyed the wildlife, (frogs, lizards, monkeys ). The hotel decor is beautiful understated Balinese, but has begun to look a little tired.
The infinity pool is to die for. The perfect temperature and the views are devine. My favourite area of Alila Ubud.
The breakfast menu and a la carte lunch and dinner menus are 5 star. More staff are required to take orders at breakfast and to clear away plates. I found it all took too long. But the standard and variety of food is terrific.
I had a facial and massage at the hotel spa, I really expected more for the price. The facial technique was repetitive and I became bored. The spa lacks the luxury you’d expect when paying these prices.
This is my second stay at Alila Ubud, so obviously my partner and I loved it. Unfortunately, the service and maintenance has slipped a little since our last stay.

Highly recommend the Alila Ubud - a home away from home!
Pros:

For the last three years I have spent my birthday at the Alila Ubud in Bali, booked for me through One World Travel in Bisbee, Arizona, and Goway Travel Ltd. Each year I return mostly because of the wonderful and attentive staff at all levels and parts of the hotel who each and everyone of them treat me with great kindness and respect, and who are always professional and friendly. While everyone I have met and dealt with there deserves praise and commendation, two individuals in particular deserve special recognition.

One is Dananjaya Kresna who works in housekeeping, and who three years ago when we first met, taught me some basic words and greetings in his native language. This has helped me to communicate with hotel staff acknowledging their dignity and culture. Every year since then Dananjaya remembers me and greets me with genuine warmth and joy. He is intelligent, efficient and excellent at his job.

The other is Yuni Lestari, the Food and Beverage Manager. She and all of her staff always make me feel welcomed and appreciated. She and they go beyond the call of duty to accommodate and meet my needs. I notice that Yuni and her staff are the same with the other quests as well. Her kindness and professionalism are of the highest quality and standards.

The hotel itself is in a beautiful setting and well maintained. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff from the front desk to all parts of the service organization, including the Spa, to upper hotel management are warm and welcoming while remaining professional and appropriate. I definitely feel safe, sound and at home there. I heartily and highly recommend the Alila Ubud in Bali.
