Holiday Inn Express Birmingham - Castle Bromwich by IHG

We have just received a phone call to cancel our booking. We had a few days booked here whilst visiting a show at the NEC. The reason for them cancelling was 'that they have taken a government contract'.. what's that all about? Its absolutely disgusting to cancel bookings that have been made months ago, and leave us to scramble around trying to find alternative accomodation for one of the busiest times at the NEC. I guess the moral is...dont trust a chain.

Totally standard business hotel. Welcome, room and check in were all fine. Even though the bathroom is dated I really enjoyed the shower.

The hotel is located beside many busy roads and as far as I could tell there’s only one way in so if you miss it a diversion will be needed to get to the right exit again.

Evening meal can be had at a few places nearby but I was on a prepay thing so used the tie up with the pub next door (low cost high volume type place). Breakfast is in the main area behind reception.

For a Holiday Inn Express it does what it advertises. The rooms are spacious and clean, good size bathroom and helpful staff.
Breakfast was included in the stay but would have been disappointed had I paid extra for it as there wasn't a huge selection available so I simply had a yoghurt.
Check in and out was easy enough and the gent that helped me was very friendly.
Easy enough to get to the NEC the next day so would stay here again if needed.

Hotel staff were very friendly and helpfull.
Bed was comfortable, had a great sleep.
Breakfast was good, sausages were quality.

Staff were really good, helpful and friendly. Room was clean and very nice. Parking was plentiful.
Breakfast was a little limited but what was there was ok.

The bathroom was a bit dirty. Hairs on the toilet, not what you want. Attention to detail very poor.

Only stayed one night as a stop over for a day out at drayton manor , reception was really welcoming, rooms were clean and comfortable and breakfast was really good. Lovely staff always very friendly 😄.

The building is not too bad, however, the room is very old and no amenities provided at all. There is no air conditioning, no refrigerator provided. Albeit a desk fan provided because of summer season, again, very disappointing that it’s broken and we need to ask for a replacement.
When we enter the room and use the toilet for first time, we found a sticky like mucus on the toilet seat that I need to clean and sanitise it before we can use !

Didnt realise it was right next to a fly over. So easy access but quite noisey.

I stayed in this hotel during my holidays in Birmingham. The staff was really friendly and helped us for a smooth check in and explained everything clearly. The hotel room and bathroom was very clean. Hotel had a very nice free breakfast with many options and the breakfast area was cleaned often too. Best part was the free parking offered by the hotel. Very happy with my stay!

Hotel and room were great but the breakfast food left a lot to he desired....please get some decent ingredients....the sausages were poor quality i wondered if they had ever been near a pig! The bacon was hard and overcooked and the scrambled eggs i have no words to describe. No butter for the toast only spread! The breakfast let tge stay down

A bit put off when we arrived, hotel is very close to the motorway and the area is not the most attractive. But it’s a different matter when you step inside! Friendly welcome, clean, bright public areas and, best of all, large, comfortable room with absolutely no noise from adjacent roads. Great to have aircon so there is no need to have window open. We had breakfast in the morning, small selection of hot and cold food, which was fine but would have liked to be able to have toast rather than just bread and butter.
Would definitely stay here again when visiting friends in the area.

It was a good stay the only thing i didn't like was the pillows and quilt they felt like feather which i am allergic to but 2 nights wasn't bad and i would definitely stop again.

Despite being satisfied with most Holiday Inn Express stays I had, this one was disappointing. The room was not very clean, as there was dust on the side tables and desk, and the carpet lacked a recent vacuum cleaning. The bathroom seemed clean but I wiped it down before using it to be on the safe side. Also, I didn't see a note in the room or in the common areas regarding the COVID-19 precautions they follow (e.g. cleaning procedures), apart from asking you to wear a mask when entering the hotel. The continental options of the breakfast were very poor, and I had only some bread with jam. The good thing is that breakfast was covered and served by a staff member, so guests don't come in contact with other's guest food.

This is a very good HI Express, it's one of the older HI properties that I have stayed in but it is more than adequate and far from poor.

The staff are excellent, coping really well with the COVID issues.

Breakfast during my stay was a takeaway affair and was not very good, I was told this was changing the following day.
