Good location to see bulb fields and close to the sea
Staff in restaurant there was never enough staff to cope , with volume of customers. Tables not cleared at breakfast so lack of clean tables. House keeping not good room not made up had to ask at reception for clean towels and room to be cleaned. Also had vouchers for free drinks and twice we had been charged.
My recent stay at the NH Noordwijk Conference Center Leeuwenhorst offered a practical and functional experience in a location that is particularly well suited for those visiting the famous Dutch bulb fields. The hotel is set in a very open and green area, making it an excellent base during the tulip season, with easy access to the surrounding flower fields and coastal region.
Arrival and First Impressions
Welcome upon arrival was courteous and friendly, with a smooth and efficient check in process. The initial impression of the hotel is one of scale and functionality. This is a large conference focused property and that is immediately visible in both layout and atmosphere.
While some areas of the hotel appear to have had updates and light refurbishments, there is a clear inconsistency in overall presentation. Certain sections feel more modern, while others are noticeably dated. Carpets in several public corridors showed visible staining, which impacts the overall impression of upkeep.
At times the hotel atmosphere feels somewhat clinical, more reminiscent of a large institutional building than a leisure focused hotel. This is not meant harshly, as the operations are functional, but the warmth and softness one would expect from a leisure stay is not consistently present.
Public Areas and Atmosphere
The public areas are large and efficient, designed to handle high volumes of guests, especially during conferences and group stays. However, the design language and finishes do feel outdated in places, and the mix of refurbished and non refurbished areas creates a slightly uneven experience as you move through the building.
There is a sense that the hotel is functional first and experiential second.
Staff and Service
Service levels were mixed. The front office team were consistently professional, courteous, and helpful, providing a strong and reassuring welcome and departure experience.
In contrast, service in the restaurant and bar areas was far less consistent. On several occasions staff appeared quite casually presented, with untucked shirts and a general lack of uniform standards. There also seemed to be little visible supervision or floor management to ensure consistency in presentation or service flow.
This contrast between departments is noticeable and impacts the overall perception of service quality.
Dining and Breakfast
Breakfast was a strong highlight of the stay. The selection was very good and plentiful, with a wide range of options available to suit different preferences. The breakfast service felt well organized and the quality of items offered was solid throughout.
This is an area where the hotel performs clearly above average.
Rooms and Amenities
The room itself was clean and functionally equipped, with all the expected basic amenities. These included coffee and tea making facilities, a kettle, and instant coffee sachets, which felt somewhat dated in presentation and quality.
An ironing board and iron were also provided, which adds to convenience for longer stays or business guests.
Cleanliness in the room was good and the space was maintained adequately.
However, the most significant issue was temperature control. The rooms are extremely warm and do not have air conditioning. During my stay in April the room was already uncomfortably warm at times, which raises real concerns for the summer period.
Fans are available upon request, but this is not a sufficient long term solution. It is difficult to justify paying a significant rate for accommodation where sleeping comfort is dependent on a fan rather than proper climate control. This is an area where the hotel urgently needs investment if it wants to remain competitive in the modern hospitality market.
Bathroom
The bathroom was comfortable and well designed, with an excellent shower and strong water pressure. This was one of the better aspects of the room experience and contributed positively to overall comfort.
Location
The location is one of the strongest features of the hotel. It is particularly well positioned for those visiting the bulb fields, with the surrounding landscape offering easy access to the famous tulip growing regions. For seasonal visitors, this makes the hotel a very practical base.
Final Thoughts
The NH Noordwijk Conference Center Leeuwenhorst is a functional and large scale hotel that performs adequately in several key areas, particularly breakfast quality, room cleanliness, and location.
However, it falls short in delivering consistent comfort and modern standards. The dated interiors, inconsistent service presentation, lack of air conditioning, and uneven sense of upkeep prevent it from feeling like a true four star experience.
Overall rating three stars, not four. The basic product is acceptable, but comfort and attention to detail need significant improvement to justify a higher classification.

Mooie ligging
Prima kamer
Uitgebreid ontbijt
Alles was prima
Hôtel très bien placé.
La piscine et le sauna sont un véritable plus.
Staff were friendly and the facilities were good. Pet friendly, close to the beach and tulips. Room service options and the facility just had it all.
Only negative, it very much had a conference vibe, lots of tour buses so not small and quaint.
Ladestation
Wir hatten Zimmer mit zwei Betten gebucht, aber ein Zimmer mit einem Bett bekommen.
Location was great, great hotel, good breakfast bar. Great saunas, pool, hot tub. Great staff if you need anything. Bike rentals easy to use.
Beautiful place with a view of the tulip fields, pleasant staff. We traveled with a dog, the hotel was attentive to this and provided a cot and bowls. Delicious breakfast.
