Holiday Inn St. John's Conference Centre by IHG

First time staying at this Holiday Inn IHG property in St. John's. It was very appealing to book given the location, East Side Mario's attached for both breakfast, dinner, a fully stocked gym, a pool and much more.

Upon arrival, which was easy to find and access, there's ample parking all around the hotel, especially since it's 2 hotels attached that are both IHG properties.

At check in, I forgot the young man's name, but he was excellent to interact with. Friendly, professional, and helpful too. Check in was flawless. Finding my room was straightforward on the 4th floor.

Entering my room, it was spacious, open, and spotless. The housekeeping here did an excellent job. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was awkward though, it's small and tight to navigate, but I am also 6'5. The lighting in the room is good at entering, but the rest of the room you have to turn all the lamps on for ample lighting.

I didn't have time for the gym or pool, but both looked like they would be a good time. They're just big enough to have a good time.

I went next door to East Side Mario's for both breakfast and dinner. The breakfast has a few options, but enough to eat a hearty breakfast. I chose the fully loaded 3 egg omlette, which came with potatoes, sausage, toast, and an orange juice on the side. It was a very good breakfast.

For dinner, once you've been to ESM'S, you know what to expect with the unlimited soup, salad and bread. I tried the potato bacon soup and wow, that was delicious. Everything else was delicious and the main course was hot, fresh, and flavorful.

Upon check out today, the ladies I had were absolutely wonderful. Friendly, talkative, and top notch professionalism. The check out experience was also flawless.

Overall, excellent first stay and everything about it minus the minor room details, was fantastic. Highly recommend this holiday inn/IHG location.

Clean room friendly staff and great location. Only thing wrong was the idea of not being able to pay cash for a bottle of water. Not everyone likes to use a visa or debit card everywhere.

Pool was ok

The bed was comfortable. My room was on the back of the building which shielded me from the traffic noise on the front of hotel. The hallway carpet was torn in a couple of places but it was clean. I always stay here when I’m in town. Love that East Side Marios restaurant is in the hotel. Very convenient and great restaurant.

We were travelling back to AB and she was happy to store our cooler of fish for us overnight. So much appreciated!!!

Handy to the airport

Not much room and bathroom was very small

Good location, needs some upgrading, but ok for short term stay

This is a large hotel with a couple of wings: I had a King room at the back, with a small balcony overlooking Kenny's Pond, which was lovely to look out on, and didn't get any traffic noise or noise from other rooms. The room itself was clean and comfortable and had all the amenities you'd expect. The bathroom was very small, but was clean and seemed recently renovated, and had shampoo, conditioner and shower gels. The wash basin area outside the bathroom was bright and well lit, with plenty of fresh towels.
A couple of things to be aware of: As there are a couple of entrances, with reception in the middle, some way from both of the main doors, find out where your room is first and then park at the entrance closest to your room for easier transportation of luggage.
Also, the main front entrance does have a sign saying no smoking within so many metres, but the smoking area is literally right outside so you do have to go through the smoke to get in to the hotel.
And, East Side Marios is attached to the hotel for dinner and breakfast, but you have to walk through the restaurant to get to the front for a table, and there was a really long wait for a table for dinner.
Some building / renovation work was going on during the day (I think 9-6).
It's a really convenient location for the airport (5-10 minute drive), and only a short drive to Quidi Vidi, Signal Hill or downtown, so overall a good hotel in a great location if you're exploring St John's and the surrounding area. Would happily stay here again.

Hotel was great. Stayed for almost a week and rooms were clean and a good size. Close to amenities and walking trails. Good pool, water slide, laundry…Great breakfast provided and handy having kids eat free at the restaurant for dinner. Only concern was the construction occurring during the day. It was very loud so son could not nap, etc.

I really liked that we had two children under the age of 12 with us and they could eat free and had a great menu for kids. This was a big benefit to us. The pool and slide was great too
