Super tired and gross carpet, the hotel is badly in need of an update. Very surprised is in the JVD/Hyatt collection ...Badly in need of a remodel.
loved the room, bathroom, location!! all really good.
The only "bad" thing was the light at my desk did not work and wouldn't charge my phone either.
there wasn't a lightbulb in the light fixture.
and a strong chemical smell on the first floor landing of the stairwell? it was odd???
Otherwise it was awesome!
2nd stay. In both instances, it was near planned evening event. I liked that it had that boutique feel, quaint, and near a nice restaurant and cafe. Staff are great, rooms spacious and clean.
Location was excellent for reaching the places we wanted to go. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and thoughtfully appointed. Parking on-site was a boon, very nice.
This JDV hotel is way below average for the cost. One star for comfortable bed, one for good pillows and linens. Ends there. Walked into my otherwise cleaned room to find the bed was unmade as if an employee had taken a nap (or worse), and then neglected to cover their tracks by re-making the bed. Notified front desk, and supposedly, the bed was changed and remade. Thankfully, there was a second bed and I slept there. See pic.
See second pic of the lovely chair with the massive yellow stain they tried covering with a piece of fabric.
The decor is 20 year-old Jonathan Adler—it’s dated, tired, ripped, and stained. Furniture is scratched, dented. Elevator looks like it hasn’t been cleaned/scrubbed in decades.
Don’t recommend except in the case of desperation.
Perfect location for a college graduation from USF. Walking distance to many good restaurants and to the campus. The hotel and our room were spotless. Housekeeping every day was greatly appreciated. The front desk staff was amazing. Very much appreciated the hot coffee and tea in the lobby day and night. I needed to change the dates of my reservation at the last minute and the manager on the telephone was enormously helpful.
Very clean and updated. Nice views of the city. Super friendly staff from the front desk to housekeeping.
No breakfast offered however complimentary coffee, tea and pastries were always out.
We have been to The Laurel several times to visit our daughter who goes to USF. It is a quick walk to both the USF campus, The Presidio, The panhandle and Golden Gate Park. It is very clean and well maintained, the staff is kind and highly competent. We will be back again and again and so should you.
Room facing California Street is probably not the best location. 6 am wake up call from the street noise. Evening noise from the TV in the adjoining room and music from somewhere in the earning morning hours. There may be quieter rooms but the street facing rooms on this stay were not conducive to a good night's sleep.
Clean and excellent location
Noisy upstairs guest
Loved the retro decor! The robes were a great addition and loved the room.great location-would stay again.the kitchenette was a plus for sure.
Very nice staff 😊
This hotel was a great find. The front desk was very helpful and I was able to check in early. The hotel has a fun retro vibe, modern bath and comfy bed. I didn't hear a thing from adjacent room, other than some squeeky hinges on their door. Only 10 minute walk to Presidio trails in one direction and a Trader Joes in the other direction (the mini-fridge is empty, not crammed with stuff I don't want). No coffee maker in the room, but nice coffee/tea service in the lobby with yummy cookies at 3 pm. Will definitely return.
Stay was fine. We needed a place to stay for one mughr
Dump. Smelly. Outdated. I wish I kept my reservation at the Hyatt House instead of this sad excuse for an accommodation. Only good thing about this hotel was that it was walking distance to a Michelin star restaurant.
Second time staying there and loved it just as much!
Nice clean hotel in a great neighborhood where you can walk to shopping at unique boutiques. On site covered parking, we didn't access many benefits such as free iced tea and cookies, on site bar, water and ice counter.
