We have been to the Angel before, it is convenient for concerts at the Apex theatre. We stayed in an Ivy room, which has been nicely redecorated since our last stay. We decided to eat out as the menu seemed to be pretty much unchanged and i can get fish and chips etc anywhere. We did have 2 large glasses of Chardonnay before our theatre concert, £28…….was very average at best.
For those wanting a quiet hotel, the Angel both times has been very busy and can be noisy. For us it is very convenient, nice staff, excellent breakfast. We have booked for October.
A wonderful evening…..everything from checking in, drinks, food, atmosphere, prices, top notch!!!! Exceptional service
Overall, we had a lovely stay at The Angel. Our room was beautiful — we stayed in Room 118 and absolutely loved the freestanding bath. Every staff member we encountered, from check-in to the bar, was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful.
There were just two negatives for us. Unfortunately, the noise overnight was quite disruptive. From around 11:30pm until 4am we could hear loud bangs, people shouting or singing (possibly intoxicated), and what sounded like early-morning deliveries. For a room costing £400+ for one night, this was disappointing and made for a less restful sleep.
Breakfast was delicious and well cooked, but the portion size felt quite small for the price — one sausage, one egg, and no beans — which looked a little underwhelming, despite tasting lovely.
Overall, we would return, but would hope for a quieter room next time.
A friend recommended the early supper menu at the Angle Hotel so we booked a table.
First in the restaurant and seated at a table next to a window 😀
Good service./food and surroundings within a fixed price 💫
Just one suggestion ..the desert could be better.
Thank you
I don't normally do reviews for afternoon tea, but as this one was £70 per couple, I did want to say that it was a tad disappointing. The setting is perfect, cosy setting with a fire in the grate, and comfortable seating. The ambience is what we came for and we were not disappointed. The food was okay, but there was nothing that impressed us enough to want to return. The 12.5 percent service charge, which was added without the option to decline, was excessive. A lovely day out, but at the same time disappointing.
A lovely setting and excellent staff
We enjoyed our meal but wished we had been warned there was a very large noisy party of diners there at the same time so we could not chat easily and the service was slow . It was a a special evening out to celebrate some good news do we could have come another night
Lovely hotel. Immaculately clean room. Would have preference a walk in shower. Food great.
Excellent afternoon tea, really great service. Friendly staff , quick and attentive. Unlimited tea or coffee, smoked salmon sandwich, ham and mustard sandwich and egg sandwich. 4 scones, 2 fruit and 2 plain. Plenty of clotted cream and jam. Oh then mini cakes, don't worry you can ask for a box to take whatever is leftover, away. Great experience, I would recommend and go back.
My husband booked afternoon tea for my birthday with our little boy today. The staff were so lovely and amazing even though our little one running around causing mayhem. I apologise to anyone who was trying to relax when we were there.
Went to baby changing room and fresh white towels laid across changing table so lovely. The extra touches made it so special, lovely card, delicious brownie saying happy birthday.
I have had a lot of afternoon teas, even at the Ritz and this most delicious I have had.
Thank you for your non judgmental staff, who smiled and was so accommodating, couldn’t do enough made my birthday a special one.
Will definitely be back x
We’ve eaten here several times and the staff are always extremely attentive, lovely decor and a great atmosphere.
Food is delicious but the menu is very meat heavy. There is 1 vegetarian option and every time we’ve been it has been some type of fancy vegetable. No protein, no imagination. The fish has always been amazing but again one choice, in addition to the cod and chips. The table next to us were vegetarians and had a couple of starters each and I heard them debating walking out to find somewhere else to eat.
If you’re a meat eater and appreciate excellent service, I would highly recommend.
We had the most amazing relaxing weekend here for our birthdays, from the minute we walked into the hotel the staff were welcoming.
The room was so lovely, the bed was so comfortable and the bath and shower were lovely, it was made extra special with lovely birthday cards on the bed.
We had dinner in the restaurant there and wow it was perfect with a lovely bottle of wine, we were looked after very well with a lovely dessert saying happy birthday. Staff were fantastic.
We had a drink in the lovely bar after.
Breakfast was really delicious too.
This was one of my favorite weekends away in this lovely hotel.
We will definitely return- Thankyou x
My husband booked a one night dinner, bed & breakfast stay at The Angel Hotel, staying in a signature room. Initial impressions of it all being rather hectic settled down once guests having tea had departed. The room was frankly strange - and rather dated. The wall opposite the street facing windows just had a glosssy red mirror and a couple of black hands poking out of the wall, against a background of patterned wallpaper. It felt as if it had been redecorated on a limited budget without any attention being given to making it a room one would to be in. The bathroom was bizarre: a vast space, with a massive copper rolltop bath in the centre, and the toilet and basin at the side, with nowhere apart from some rickety wooden shelves to put toiletries. On a positive note, the hotel must have an incredibly powerful boiler lurking in the basement, as the bath filled up in seconds and the shower almost flooded the room with a tiny turn of the tap. Again, it just wasn't a room one would want to spend time in - although there would have been plenty of space for a party. Moving on to the dinner part of our experience, I'm pleased to say that the kitchen is as good as ever, and also coped well with my gluten free dietary requirement. However, the restaurant is expensive, and one should expect to pay £100 per person, inclusive of wine. Finally, we'd like to offer a shout-out to the hotel staff, particularly those running the restaurant so efficiently and with friendly smiles.
Gor my wife and I’s travels we have visited many hotels in many countries and had many meals! My wife said that her sea bass meal was the best she had ever had.
The staff were lovely, the surroundings a delight and it’s history, overlooking the abbey, great.
It is the kind of hotel that you book and on arrival are very happy with your choice

My car was damaged in their control - raised it with them and no one ever called back…
The Angel Hotel was chosen down to its known and sound reputation to meet our hope for a very special 80th birthday gift, but i am afraid our hopes were not met.
The kettle in the room was faulty, needed pressure applied to switch until boiling water had been reached.
While the leather settee looked sumptuous, it was not suitable for the two guests as they both have accessibility issues and was a struggle to leave the settee.
On making the booking i explained as clearly as i could the guests9my parents had mobility issues and the room needed to be accessible. Access to the room required two flights of stairs which was exactly what we wanted to avoid.
The door to the shower was faulty and leaked, it seemed a "fix" had been attempted but still leaked. This was reported to hotel staff during the visit.
The underfloor heating could not be regulated or adjusted.
In summary we are disappointed and our hope of gifting a wonderful stay fell sadly short.
We did feedback these points to the Hotel, despite acknowledgement of receipt of our email we did not receive any detailed response after 12 days which triggered this review.
Location, valet parking and excellent service.
Room was a bit dated but excellent value for money
This is a lovely hotel, a mix of modern & historic. Our room was warm, with a massive comfortable bed and a posh bathroom. Service from the valet parking, through check in and for all the meals & drinks was exemplary. Food was delicious & plentiful, drinks were excellent from local ales to fancy cocktails. Couldn't fault it really.
There are bargain prices available too if you are lucky with your dates!
