It’s pretty, tucked into an area of bustle with eateries, pharmacies, shops, and parks. Near the subway, 20 minutes by cab from off broadway plays.
I love this place, especially the balcony outside the sliding glass door of our room. What I’d change is the piped in music in their lovely roof garden. It’s a bit overdone, but I prefer jazz to Strauss. That’s just me.
Great location for mid and downtown. Plenty of good restaurants nearby. Subway stations also very close to the hotel.
Continental breakfast was good. Staff were pleasant and welcoming.
Room was a good size. Nice little balcony.
Genuine, lovely hotel and happy to recommend.
My wife and I (in our 70's) spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday night in a Queen room with balcony. The location is not a hugely busy area of Manhattan, like nearPenn Station, but it is steps from the #6 subway, the main north-south line on the east side. Korea Town and its wonderful barbecue restaurants are minutes away, and if that's not your thing there is every kind of restaurant and pub you could ever want nearby.
The good stuff:
- The room was spotlessly clean upon our arrival and the daily service was excellent.
- Room size was generous, certainly generous by NYC standards, and nicely decorated.
- The bathroom had excellent counter space and a bath tub, which is sort of unusual these days. Great for my wife, who prefers a bath. Great hot water and pressure.
- The balcony was a bonus aesthetically as well as practically. Our room did not have a refrigerator, so we were able to keep food and drinks. So nice to be able to open a door (briefly in winter!) as well as enjoy the light!
- Fabulous bathrobes!!
- Medium firm mattress. Very comfortable for us.
- The $25 resort fee pays for itself. The breakfast offering is great. Real bagels, authentic pastries, Real Latte, Espresso, warm eggs. And, presided over by a genuinely nice person who wants you to have a nice day. The 24 hour snacks are good quality cookies, fruit and pastries.
- Ok...I have a soft spot for the breakfast lady, but all of the staff were professional and warm in the discharge of their duties. We felt like they had pride in their hotel and hospitality.
The not good stuff:
- This space is blank.
In summary:
There are a zillion hotels in NYC. There are plenty of hotels you'd be happy staying in, and you may be confused about which one you will stay in. The Giraffe works for us. We would stay at the Giraffe again, and again, and again.
Hotel Giraffe is a lovely small hotel with a charming old-fashioned feel. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The continental breakfast was quite good.
The location is a little noisy because it is right on Park Avenue.
Our stay in the hotel was very comfortable! We had a two bedded room with a very small balcony, which we did not really need. I usually stay on the West side but staying on the East side was much quieter ! Room was lovely, only thing was the bathroom door did not close. Continental breakfast was fine, I did think there may have been some chopped fruit. Only fruit was bananas. We usually had cereal with a croissant and coffee. Breakfast ladies were lovely, knowing exactly what coffee we wanted when we came downstairs. Bath & Body shop two blocks down (I know ladies from the UK would like to know) ! Lots and I mean lots of CVS stores on Park Avenue South ! Subway just two streets up taking you uptown or downtown, gets you to 51st street in less than 10 minutes. I was a bit disappointed as I wrote to the hotel before leaving the UK to let them know I was celebrating my 75th birthday the day I arrived and when I arrived NOTHING ! We went to the Italian restaurant attached separately our first night and the waiter was chatting to us and my friend told them it was my birthday and they came out with a lovely tiramisu with a candle which was lovely and appreciated !
We normally stay at The Elysee Hotel in NYC but as this was closed for refurbishment , we booked the Giraffe Hotel which is part of the same group.
A great decision - welcoming and helpful staff, our Classic King room was comfortable, very clean, large with vast amounts of storage and always at a good temperature.
As with the Elysee, we benefitted from the plentiful breakfast and all day snacks and drinks in the lounge.
The property was in a superb location. It felt safe at every time of day/night and it is super near to KTown and even Time Square. I walked everywhere when we stayed here and it was the perfect central location to everywhere. The property itself was clean and the room was phenomenal. We even had a balcony which was a welcome surprise! All the staff were super kind, but there was a gentleman that I saw regularly that was always so nice and we would regularly chat. It was like seeing an old friend and he single-handedly made my time here feel comfortable and welcoming. I believe his name was Chris or Christian (he had glasses and a mustache and would work the night shift a lot, he has a pet cat that we talked about). Overall, I'd definitely stay again. The staff were accommodating, the room was comfortable and spacious, and I loved that they had a beverage/snack station in the lobby 24/7. Very nice touch!
I didn't have anything that came up during my time here that I didn't like. The staff was great, accommodating and very polite.
C’est la 2 e que nous y séjournons . Emplacement parfait , personnel au top !
Rien !
Comfort, amenities, bath products. Staff went out of their way to make sure we had a refrigerator in the room and to have down-free bedding. Loved the location near our friends' place in Gramercy Park. Glad to have valet parking. Next visit we will likely take the train from DC. A very congenial and welcoming hotel. And I loved being able to have tea in the afternoon or once we returned in the evening.
Enjoyed the availability of snacks and the comolimentary breakfast, but you need better cereals including ones that don't have so much sugar. How about Cheerios, or Wheaties, or similar. The cereals were loaded with sugar as were the snack bars - all sugar and no protein. I would recommend upgrading the selection and having more "original" oatmeals instead of packets with lots of sugar. Also, in a hotel of your quality, I would use Harney teas or similar.
One other quibble: I didn't bring lotion as I was sure you would have it , but there wasn't any in the bathroom.
Super friendly staff, wonderful all-day snacks! Continental breakfast was also great and I loved not having to look for a place to eat everyday. Room was clean and comfortable, location also great. I would go back anytime and I highly recommend it!
Great Location, clean, loved having hot coffee and tea and snacks available anytime we came back from walking around. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfy bed.
The hotel lobby was comfortable,
the elevators came quickly, and the room was perfect.
I couldn’t find a switch in the bathroom for a fan, so had to open the door to let the steam out. And the breakfast was nice but would’ve been improved with a couple hot options: e.g.,
eggs, bacon.
