The location of the hotel was great, not beach front, but close to the beach and walking distance to many restaurants and shops.
The hotel advertised in their binders (in our room) that hotel guests were eligible for discounts at local restaurants and the San Diego zoo - when I asked about the discounted zoo tickets at the front desk, I was told that there were none and when we went to restaurants and mentioned these discounts, they were unaware of these.
The temperature controls were off in our rooms. We turned on the heat and cold air still came through the vents in our kitchen and living room area. Windows are old and need to be replaced - we heard street noise and people at all hours.
For the most part, the room was fairly clean but dishes and silverware had crumbs on them.
Second bathroom toilet and sink were clogged multiple times. They came to resolve the issue but resolution was only temporary.
The location is great as the “base” for walking and exploring. The noise of the restaurant below was NOT pleasant with all the sounds of the kitchen and what seemed like constant table sliding.
Inside the room, essentially no hot water. Luke warm would be a bit of a stretch as well. I ran the tub for 20 minutes thinking maybe it just needed to come from across the property.
I don’t want to even get into the parking situation but if you go you should know there is not any. 40$/night for the BoA building which is a 3-5 minute walk.
You definitely pay for the location, paying to be across from the beach and walking distance to everything. Highly recommend pay for their parking garage. Disappointed on the quality of the rooms. Shower was dirty with terrible water pressure. Brought it up to management at check out and they then mentioned it was a problem for the whole hotel. Room needs a deep clean. Bed was clean and comfortable. Great ac. Room does have a mini fridge which is not in the description. Cleaning on request, not daily. Paid for a king bed but realized too late that we received a room with a queen bed. We would say overall it was average. Not the worst. Not the best.
Nice place in the best location. Very spacious! Good value! Our unit had 2 bedrooms with en suite a formal dining and living room and kitchen. We will come back!!
Went to Coronado to experience a new Christmas. El Cordova is the perfect location and love the rooms with the Mexican motif.
It was a great location! The rooms were small and noisy. The shower water pressure was terrible!! The patio areas could've used a little sprucing up since it was a holiday week.
Beautiful, place! Hotel is super cute, room was great, spanish tile bathroom, comfy bed. Right across from the Hotel Del. Would definitely stay again
We did not like our experience at the Hotel at all and would not
come back again. The parking was a total rip off and very inconvenient. We were charges $40 and there weren’t any parking spaces and it was completely off site and we had to move our car before our hotel reservation was over because we were forced to park in the Bank of America parking lot.
The bathroom was in total disrepair and we didn’t like the shampoo soaps and lotions provided.
The walls were so thin I heard the person in the next rooms alarm going off and her total conversation. For the price it was a total rip off. We went there to enjoy Coronado and we ended up just leaving in the morning.
Local parking is scarce. Their offer for 40 off site parking is a block away. To difficult to unload and trek.
Rooms are confusing. Noise from nearby restaurants is constant.
Tile missing in bathroom and hat water was limited.
Overall- Awesome experience! Only one thing- the beds and or sheets seemed to cause us itching and what looked like bug bites. Please check if the sheets; bed may have bed mites;bugs.
I stay at the El Cordova several times a year, and I always enjoy it. It has a character all its own. I’ve been coming to Coronado since the 1980s, and I’ve stayed just about everywhere. At this point, I won’t stay any place else. It’s super convenient. The staff are friendly. I love Miguel’s, and I’m just a short walk from the beautiful beach. Thanks for another great stay!
The price was good but a couple of things could have been better:
1. They asked what time we wanted to check in and I said noon. We arrived at 12:30 and they said the room wasn’t ready but would be ready in an hour. An hour later they said 30 more minutes.
2. There is no parking for the hotel and they told us to park in the parking garage We parked in the only parking garage we could see and were charged $120 for less than 24 hours. When we questioned the person at the front desk, because we were told it would cost $40, we were told we parked at the wrong parking garage and there was nothing they could do about it. It would have been helpful to have been told what parking garage and where.
El Cordova is such a beautiful property, rich with historic architecture and modern convenience. The pool and spa area were pristine. The bed was very comfortable, and my kids had no complaints about the sofa bed. We enjoyed having a kitchen and also loved the close proximity to great restaurants, the Hotel Del Coronado, and the beach — you truly can’t beat the location for exploring all of Coronado.
A special mention goes to Danny at the front desk, who provided five-star, exemplary service from the moment we arrived. He made our stay even more memorable.
Our only “complaint” was the delicious smell of tortillas cooking at Miguel’s — which tempted us to eat there twice. 😋
Great location and super cute hotel. We loved the kitchen to cook and make meals in. Two bedroom suite is perfect and each room has their own bathroom.
I reserved a 2-night stay, and they lied about both the nightly rate and the room amenities. My email confirmation shows a completely different price than what they charged me. I tried calling several times with no answer, and when I finally spoke to someone, they were clueless and full of excuses. They also promised an oven—which I requested specifically for Thanksgiving dinner—but that was a lie. The manager was rude and unprofessional, and the entire place desperately needs properly trained staff
Our stay at El Cordova was so amazing, thanks 💯 to the front desk person, James, who saw to our every need. When noticing that my 89-year-old mom and I have mobility issues, he offered to park my car for me. That was awesome, as there was no way we would have been able to walk two blocks from the hotel’s parking area. Additionally, he upgraded us to a first-floor ADA accessible suite, since we would not have been able to climb the stairs. James was so kind and empathetic, and truly went the extra mile to assure our stay was memorable. We were also provided with a coupon for a free appetizer at Miguel’s, the Mexican restaurant on the premises. There, the food and drinks were excellent, especially the passion fruit margarita. El Cordova Hotel will always be our choice anytime we visit San Diego.
I was extremely disappointed with the room given the amount charged. The sink in the bathroom didn’t drain, and the bathroom outlet didn’t work. There was unbearable mold in the closet, no outlets in the bedrooms, and the bathtub actually “bounced.” The shower started hot but quickly turned lukewarm without warning. The coffee maker needed cleaning, and the overall room felt cold and sterile—an area rug in the living room would have helped. Due to all these issues, I would not stay here again nor recommend this property.
The room was nice, however the hot tub was not heated and the jets did not work. I paid for the parking but there were no available parking space and It was a long walk with lots of bags. The complimentary voucher that was given to me at the front desk for a free appetizer with purchase of an entree wasn’t honored at Miguel’s because I didn’t dine in, even though it didn’t say that on the voucher. Wish there was better communication about this.
Beautiful hotel, great location, very relaxed feel. The staff was super friendly. The convenience of the shops, spas, and restaurants all there on site was awesome. If you wanted to explore you can walk to everything and it's only twenty minutes to everything!
The only negative is that the windows are single pane, so the rooms that face the street (at least ours) get all the street noise. So we were woken up by the trash truck and motorcycles at 5:30am.
And then the restaurant, which has TERRIFIC food, brought a power washing company in at 7:45am. Not conducive for getting rest. If they would have warned us ahead of time, it would have been nice. The front desk of the hotel said no one from the restaurant informed them of the work crew coming in that early.
Other than that I would highly recommend this hotel.
We stayed at Coronado beach resort for the rest of the trip and decided to stay an extra night but they didn’t have vacancy, so we crossed over to el Cordova for last night. Perfect location for where we wanted to be.
