I have been here before when it was the Waldorf Astoria, and it was absolutely stunning, with perfect service and exceptional rooms. and amenity. This time, I was pretty shocked at how rundown my room was. There was no option for me to move rooms, so I was stuck in a room with a broken window, a duvet that had very little warmth in it, and a terrible pillows, and a very worn out chair. The bathroom was very good except for the fact that there was no shower cap or toiletries of any kind.
What made my state exceptional was not the hotel or the perfect location, but the staff. It started with being welcomed by George, who is just a wonderful guy, Emma and Naomi, who were amazing and so helpful, and Katherine, the night manager who went above the call of duty to help make sure that she could do whatever was possible to make my room a little bit better than it was. The staff in the beautiful tea room was fantastic as well. As a Hilton honor member, I think it would be really smart to offer free breakfast. It doesn’t take a lot, but it would sure make people like me feel a little bit more special rather than just a number.
The location is spectacular, and the hotel is very safe. What makes this hotel stand out from all the hotels I’ve been at around the world in my 68 years, is the staff. The people who were there when I was there three years were so empathetic and helpful that they made the discovery of the terrible little room acceptable to me

Cons:

My room, 528, had terrible pillows, a duvet that had no feathers left in it, a terrible mattress, and a broken window. The little chair in the corner was worn out and in pretty bad shape. I was surprised that the bathroom was clean and very nice though, and I was happy about that.

To call this a 5 star hotel is a disgrace. Housekeeping were abysmal, they kept leaving things on the floor, not vaccuum

I would highly recommend this stunning hotel. Food was amazing, staff was helpful and the location couldn’t be beat.

Would have been acceptable at a Premier Inn but for £1000 a night we expected more.
Pros:

Our room was at the end of a long corridor but it was large and well decorated. The bed extremely comfortable and the staff we met were charming.

Cons:

The window facing the castle view was very dirty when we arrived, which rather ruined the effect (this was rectified the next day). There was limited storage space for clothes. The bathroom was small and the shower was a rather miserable dribble. The evening turndown service only happened on one of our three night stays. Breakfast was very disappointing with no Scottish fish ( eg kippers or haddock) except salmon (as an extra). The unimaginative selection of buffet items included tasteless cardboard bacon - such a shame. PS The binoculars in our room were broken.
