The staff were so kind and very helpful, my niece under 10 who is extremely shy felt so at ease to speak to the staff because they were so friendly.

That I didn’t stay longer!

Pros:

Great location, nicely appointed room

Cons:

Some deferred maintenance throughout the hotel. Lobby space felt dated and not that polished, breakfast restaurant was okay but not great, and breakfast buffet was pretty good but not great.

Pros:

The hotel was delightful, gorgeous and very clean outside and inside. All the facilities that we visited including the spa and the pool were top quality. The staff of the said facilities and the restaurant were incredibly helpful and friendly, which also added to the good impression we had about the hotel. It was also my girlfriend's birthday that weekend and the hotel was kind enough to help and organise a surprise for her with flowers and balloons.

Cons:

The shower door in our room was missing and when we reported it, the staff tried to convince us that it was normal and was done for a reason. Only after we insisted on it, they "investigated" the issue and it turned out that it was removed due to being broken and was not to be repaired until next week (when we would have already left). When we asked if we could switch rooms, we were offered one that was a clear downgrade from what we have paid for. Very poor and greedy management on that part. I don't believe that the room with a broken shower door should have been up for booking. We were not offered any compensation.

Pros:

The hotel is very centrally located within walking distance of the main shopping area of Edinburgh. It was very close to the Usher Theater, where II attended the Christopher Cross concert. My room was comfortable and quiet and I slept well. I enjoyed the selection at breakfast in very elegant surroundings.

Cons:

I was not familiar with the layout of the hotel and walked into the restaurant from the street rather than the lobby but staff were very understanding and helpful and directed me to the lobby cheerfully.

Disappointing breakfast experience
Pros:

Great location for visiting the castle, Grassmarket & old town. Good sized room. Very grand staircase. Nice ambience.

Cons:

Has to wait 20 mins to be seated for breakfast & then coffee order got lost & took another 15 mins to arrive. Has to ask for cereal bowls & non-dairy milk. For the price of breakfast £30+ per person things like eggs Benedict should be included. Not good value at all. Particularly for children!!
