Pros:

The location and general appearance of the hotel is nice. We had a room designated for clients with dogs which I suspect impacted on our experience. Whilst the surcharge for our dog was comparatively competitive, that’s really where it ended. The area of the hotel allocated to dog owners is very much in need of refurbishment and redecoration. The walls, doors, flooring covering were generally grubby and marked. During the course of our stay (3nights), we had experience of 3 different rooms. The facilities across the three rooms differed as did the layout. The first two had negligible hot running water, hot water just trickled from the taps and there was insufficient pressure to get the hot water supply up the bath shower tubing to the shower head. The first room was incredibly small compared with the second, there was now sink plug and the vinyl flooring didn’t cover the entirety of the floor. The silicone sealant around the bathroom in need of renewal. Our 3rd and final room did have hot water and at a reasonable pressure but the flooring, especially the bathroom, was incredibly badly marked and had holes in the vinyl. Similar to the first room, it was narrow in parts making it cramped especially given there was an extra single bed in it. The general feeling was that this area was not anywhere near as well maintained as the rest of the hotel albeit we never saw the rooms elsewhere, a shame when you are charged a surcharge for having a dog.

Pros:

We booked for 2 nights.
Room was very small, no towel rails to hang towels in bathroom so had to hang them on chairs in room.
Door to bathroom didn’t close properly!
We could have moved rooms but guy on desk said the only room available was £20 more!
We had to tune TV in as it wasn’t set up on channels!
We’ve stayed there before and our stay was good.
Having said all that the staff were all lovely apart from the guy on check-in. He has no customer service skills whatsoever!

Pros:

This was a very basic room, which was absolutely fine for my needs, very clean & tidy however it was clearly a room that was repurposed as it had a bright green safety light that someone had covered with a sock - clearly to help them get some sleep! Despite the sock coverage the room still had a green glow to it all night long!!
The gym has definitely seen better days & in need of an upgrade. 2 of 4 treadmills out of order & boiling hot made it quite uncomfortable. Additionally, what they don’t tell you on booking is that it costs £4 to use the gym/pool. Obviously that’s cheaper than most gyms but as a resident I didn’t expect to have to pay extra to use these facilities.
This hotel is absolutely fine if you’re after a cheap & cheerful (and clean!) overnight for work

Very rude receptionist. Old hotel
Pros:

Receptionist is very rude. The hotel tried to charge me £4 for using the gym facilities, per night! Hotel is very old and needs updating. Food not great.

The coldest hotel I’ve ever stayed in
Pros:

The coldest hotel I’ve ever stayed in! The reception was freezing. The bar was freezing. The corridors were freezing. The rooms were freezing. I was literally shivering walking to my room. Once in the room, I couldn’t find a temperature gauge to increase the temperature. Got in the bed wearing my clothes. It was warmer outside. In addition very shocked to find out that at 830pm on a Saturday night there was no food or restaurant just crisps.

Constructive feedback
Pros:

The hotel was beautiful, clean, and very presentable. The room itself was nice; however, I was disappointed that it had no windows. It felt very enclosed and could be uncomfortable for guests who prefer natural light.

Pros:

Nothing, apart from one staff in the bar, others were unhelpful. No lifts so had to carry suitcases yp 3 flight of stairs. Website not clear that tea and coffe were complimentary on 1st day only. Towels and bedding is changed every 4 days and ran out of showergel and shampoo, asked at reception for more but they did not have any.

Pros:

We hoped this was our future stay at hotel. No we will not be staying there any more. On booking in at arrival, the greeting was ok until the room number was changed, I asked why & asked more than once, he eventually said oh no you really wouldn't want to stay in that part of the hotel, waving his hand in the air & yet it was only 10 rooms from 412 the original number but 402 given. Pointing in the direction we had to go, down there turn left along etc but then he then showed us & then we were faced with 2 flights of stairs, he done the right thing and carried the heaviest of our cases up, opened 2 doors & pointed to the room showed us how to operate the key & left. Well on entering the room we had rather a shock to say the least, the room was not what we booked & paid for, as for the bathroom it had to be the most tiniest I had ever seen I was a plumber for many years but would wait till the morning before querying this we thought mistake. Next day I asked the lady at reception why were we given a family room when we paid for a Twin Standard being very much larger and it looked as if it had a shower to.

Pros:

We had to downgrade as the room as booked wasn’t dog friendly, but the lock on the door of the room we moved to didnt work, so we had to move to another which was at best, a bit pokey.
As we downgraded, the chap on reception gave us complimentary meal tickets, but I had to go out early and the hotel didn’t do any bar food and the restaurant didn’t start serving until 6 pm so I had to leave without eating.
The room was very hot and the fan very noisy so sleeping was not comfortable and when my wife asked for a sheet to sleep under rather than the duvet, it was like we were asking for building work to be undertaken.
We found the grounds lacking a bit of tlc too.
The buffet breakfast wasn't that wonderful with the sausages overcooked, the egg yolks had gone hard under the warmer etc. The rest of it was ok, my wife enjoyed to fruit.
The other thing was that most hotels these days have USB sockets in the plug sockets, but not this place, so whilst we had cables, I didn’t bring adapters.
Overall we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful but there didn’t seem to be very many of them.
Would we stay here again? Probably not to be honest.
