Staff at front desk ( David) and reservation agent(Vivian)addressed a reservation issue .
Booked reservation through booking.com. Originally booking was for Feb 18/19 . I applied to have that changed to the 25/26 . Change was accepted and acknowledged with confirmation that appeared to come from Kananaskis Mountain lodge . However when we got to the front desk , there was no reservation for us.
The view
The staff
The village is adorable. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Loved the smore’s at night! The lobby and staff are great. The outdoor pool and hot tub are fantastic.
The room! So dated. Slightly updated from its 1980’s origins. Tiny bathroom and unusable tub (small and yellow around the drain). Felt like an old, dingy smoker’s room. Was worse in person than the photos online.
Also received around six emails prior to my stay as if this stay was such a big deal lol! Not necessary.
The lobby & grounds were lovely. We also liked the Christmas arts & crafts activities.
They took $330 from my credit card 3 weeks after my stay when I had no room charges & have not responded to my query. This also happened during our stay to my family who stayed in another room. They were overcharged & have still not been paid back.
For over $1,000 a night, it was not worth the price. The rooms are basic and small & our soaps/shampoo & conditioner were empty. They were advertised with a microwave yet didnt have one. There is 1 door that closes for the closet & bathroom so only 1 ting can be closed at once. No lock on bathroom door.
For the price & also the reputation, I would expect some nice touches, which weren't a thing.
The fact that they charged 20% gratuity for a buffet where we were not served at all & had tables less than 8 was ridiculous.
There were a few restaurants, but the prices were insane which is common for resorts that hold monopoly in their area.
There were also dogs everywhere. Which I love dogs, but not when they're barking in the hallway outside my room in the middle of the night while we sleep with a baby (or even just us sleeping too). They were also allowed on all the furniture in the general areas of the hotel which is wild given they are a allergy hazard & also would go outside, then come inside & walk all over the furniture.
Honestly, I'm sad it's left such a bad taste in my mouth for this accommodation. We had decided to go here instead of the Fairmont in Banff for Christmas due to the activities and reputation, but I wouldn't recommend.
It was very enjoyable! Omelet and fruit bowls were yummy!
Dinner in the dining room.
Meat was not to our request.
Very good facilities, food options were good, particularly liked Woodys pub.
Dogs!!
There were dogs everywhere. Little ones yapping in rooms when I was trying to relax or sleep; big ones in lounge areas, even on seats. I don't want to sit somewhere a dog has been sitting on. Plus, what about people allergic to dogs - and the hygiene aspect. I've not stayed in a good hotel like this that allows dogs as a matter of course.
Getting here without a car was nigh on impossible (thank goodness for the new Flixbus route from calgary airport - although the timetable was a bit limited)
Great bfast and appies provided
dinner choices - limited and expensive
The amazing view out the window.
The table and two big comfy chairs in the corner.
Underground parking.
The air conditioner/ heater was quite loud.
Not very clean room . Lady on the reception took the payment three times from my credit card and didn’t refund back funds.
Very friendly and accommodating staff.
