Location was excellent
Was not so keen on the location of our Garden Room (Room4) felt like we were not in the main hotel and quite noisy could hear guests in other rooms
Pros :
Strong shower
Walking distance to town and boat hire on lake.
Cons :
Room - hot and stuffy, noisy (could hear people talking). Reception lights were bright in our room and on all night.
Hallways - smelt old and musty like carpets needed replacing. Hotel was ok in places but felt old in most and in need of a renovation.
Beds - we had a family room with two teenagers. One sofa bed and one z bed. Kids are older but the z bed was barely held together. It sank and had a very thin mattress. Could feel the metal. Asked for another mattress. Reception guy was defensive and I was made to feel it was my fault for booking a family room with older kids. Their website should be clearer. Eventually someone came up with a duvet to try to pad it out. Not acceptable.
Room service - room was supposed to be serviced on day 2 but wasn’t. No clean towels and toilet roll ran out the day of departure. Had to ask for towels.
Breakfast - large dining room but breakfast station was very small so it was a bun fight for food. Put me off so didn’t bother the next day. Eggs were not freshly made.
Staff - overheard a waiter arguing with a family when they moved tables at breakfast, another waiter moaning about having to make wedding guests coffee in the evening, slamming things around in the bar area. The reception guys were welcoming at first but tried to sell us rubbish tours on arrival including another room for our teenage kids. The reception guy was not helpful for things that mattered like the z bed issue. Made it out to be my fault for booking with teenage kids.
Overall, a disappointing stay. It’s one of those places that might look ok
on the website but we couldn’t wait to leave after 2 days.
The location was wonderful looking out across the lake, unless you looked to the left out of our windows and it was like the beginning of a building site. A large hole with a very large mountain of soil. This is not shown on their website photos. You know what is said "don't believe everything you see on websites". When you walk into the reception area and bar it's like a different hotel very tastefully decorated. The hotel is very, very tired paint and plaster falling from internal walls and doors.
The breakfast is a buffet breakfast, unfortunately full English breakfast was lukewarm on every morning. Bacon and sausage both in one container so no provision for gluten free customers. Gluten free cereal was only available if you asked for it. No obvious choice of alternatives for dairy intolerance.
Bathroom had bad smell from bath plug hole and it making noise and water coming into the bath when the customers above used their bathroom. This was reported to reception but we did not receive any feedback, who knows if it was dealt with!!!
We were unable to use the drawing room and library for one day due to a wedding. We were lucky as we had a suite accommodation. Where is the consideration for other paying guests that are not wedding guests, other than the bar or reception.
You had to ask for clean towels, for the three days we were there, no basic house keeping in our room such as even emptying bathroom bins
Really a shame as we would have liked to extended our stay.
I am aware that the hotel is undergoing a full refurbishment but this still doesn't excuse the poor standards of what is supposed to be a 4/5 star hotel.
Three members of staff were lovely, really helpful, pleasant and professional.
Be aware if you don't book direct with the hotel there is a £15 daily charge for parking your car at the hotel.!!
A Most Beautiful location overlooking the lake and its activities from a raised location.
Charlie was very courteous to meet my expectations for our visit , nothing was too much trouble . The enthusiasm of the staff from Miguels infectious welcomes in the mornings to the being at the bar . Having Taylers knowledge and great showmanship with the fantastic Cocktails , again nothing was too much trouble always willing to perform the best . The Hotel is going through refurbishment , Charlie was very clear to make us aware , it's a work in progress and that we wouldn't be disappointed. We certainly were not . An amazing venue with amazing values , food all very good .
Have already booked to go back in October with friends , whom Charlie made us aware of the accessible rooms , absolutely brilliant all round .
Good location
Bottled water needed to be collected from reception and they ran out on the day we were there
Went for anniversary celebration from the start the room was not big enough for 2, the heat was intense the two days we went. No AC in the room and no fridge to keep drinks cool, the view out of the window was staff quarters and a yard full of rubble, not a tree to be seen considering wr were in a very attractive location. £15 per night in car park seemed exceptional as well. Overall a disappointing break although I must say all of the staff were lovely. Would I go again NO
Excellent location
Room dated
Looking out of window onto building g materials
On roof space
No air conditioning
Parking charges were not made apparent prior to booking.
Terrible communication with hotel - despite them sending me dozens of useless messages before the stay.
Amazing experience for me and my family! Stunning room and location! The staff went above and beyond to help keep and my family during the evening meals and breakfast so welcoming looking to book again! Thank you
Lovely location and stunning view of lake
Upgraded room to one with air conditioning.. what a waste of money .. don’t bother .. fan was about as effective as the supposed air conditioning ..also didn’t work at all in part of the suite .. to be fair room was really nice and if weather wasn’t as hot then I would recommend!
Lovely hotel perfect location
Breakfast …. The serve yourself area is far too small especially when the breakfast room is full. You have to queue for the food and can take a while to get through 😕
Everything was fab, from the drinks to the food to the views and the way staff treated you was amazing
Loved everything
The staff were absolutely brilliant, very eager to assist and made us feel very welcome, they sorted our room with balloons Prosecco in ice bucket and truffles for my partners Birthday, we had a lake view room and wow!!! I wanted to stay for a week it was stunning and all I can say is we will be back… Such a relaxed atmosphere with a great ambience… This hotel is just spot on and cannot wait to return…It was Perfect… Freshly decorated to a high standard it gets 5***** from me and my partner Donna
All was good no faults
Location.
No air conditioning, parking is £15 a night which you are not told about and at £20 per head breakfast wasn't value for money. They also pre authorise £100 on your card which we was not told about so make sure you take a physical card
Location is good
Breakfast normal
There is no AC in the room
We couldn’t sleep for two nights due to the heat
Great location with lake views. Friendly staff were very helpful. The hotel was very clean and good sized rooms
The room was very hot and only a small fan provided. The window only opened a small amount. No fridge in the room and little hanging space for clothes
Room was very dirty, pee on the WC and pee smell all over the bathroom. Clearly poorly cleaned. Bathroom was brown stained in the inside. Never had such a bad cleaning experience in an hotel room.
Visited 10 here years ago from Melbourne and came back to this Gem with my wife as a surprise. We loved the experience. We were so well looked after by Tayler our waiter. He was such a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful waiter. 10 out of 10 mate.
Really nice to have met you👍
