Forest!
Staff very good
The buffet breakfast (that wasn’t good), which understand is being removed to return to a full cook to order table service breakfast only option. The Sauna has shut (since our previous visit) and I understand that is being returned also.
Beautiful location in the New Forest. The staff were amazing. All really friendly. Amazing breakfast. The hotel itself is full of history and you feel like royalty staying there.
Nothing
Location
Rooms were a bit corporate
The location in the middle of the forest was superb. The property itself was stunning with beautiful exterior and gardens.
The inside was a bit old and tired. For a four star property i expected better. Probably needs a renovation. The room is small and the bathroom tiny. Clean but old and tired
The gardens are stunning and the building is beautiful - lots of benches everywhere and the maze is fun.
It’s in the perfect location. This really is a wonderful stay for a couple. And the spa treatments are worth the price.
There was a wedding on one of the days - but we didn’t feel this impacted us whatsoever.
Our trip was lovely - but it was 30 degrees the entire time and so we utilised the pool, gardens or off site. When I enquired before our stay, I was told that they don’t do anything for children that’s special / amenity. But actually, they do a turndown cookies and milk for evening, which was the main highlight for the kids. And then an arrival little package on bed and juice in the room mini bar.
The hotel room amenities are plentiful with a wide choice of coffees, teas etc. Constantly cleaning and changing towels (all the cleaning staff were SO lovely and friendly).
Easy to access / loads of car spaces.
There was limit flexibility on movement for children. The menu is not ideal for children (steak, fried stuff, tomato pasta with no protein etc). We kept asking for plain pasta & cheese and still charged full whack. We asked for children’s cutlery which they didn’t have. Most kids want simple food. We ended up going to Brockenhurst and bringing in simple lunch bits for them because they just wanted a simple option and were unable to rustle something up or deviate from the set menu.
Felt the outdoor pool was tired - there were broken parts, the flooring surrounding the pool is damaged in parts. There was still all last year’s autumn leaves everywhere. With little effort it could improve. And there are only 8 sun loungers so on the hot days, it seemed silly that a hotel this size didn’t have more. That being said, the staff were going around for drinks / clean towels etc.
They handed us a breakfast menu with a photo of a pancake to my daughter’s excitement and was told ‘we just use random photos, we don’t offer pancakes’ !
Charming hotel in beautiful grounds. Fantastic location with a wide range of walking and cycling routes on the doorstep.
Bathroom was tired and in need of modernisation.
Located in the middle of the forrest it was peaceful and superbly fitted out, we were in a fairly new extension, airco and nicely furnished. Super breakfast in an elegant dining room.
An awful lot of steps due to split levels, a feature of an ancient property but a challenge for the elderly.
Wife was not keen on the unusual shower heads.
Beautiful setting. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Check-in staff and concierge were very pleasant and helpful.
Service was slow in the Conservatory on our first night. Some of the food served in the lounge/bar was disappointing. There was a wedding during our stay and it seemed as though staff resources were stretched.
Hacía tiempo que no estábamos en un hotel con empleados tan buenos. Destacando a Nico en el desayuno, puso todas sus ganas para que entendiéramos el menú escrito, fue especialmente amable y atento.
The hotel is beautiful, we were lucky to experience some wonderful weather and spent some time around the outside pool, which was a great bonus. The staff are fantastic; breakfast is incredible- if you can think of it, you can have it. It's the perfect location for a bit of chill time and the setting is amazing. The perfect base to explore the New Forest.
Beautiful location, so much to see. Beautiful hotel, clean and plenty of room. Decent pool, warm and clean. Staff friendly and eager to help. Breakfast outstanding, in the stunning Armada room with plenty of freshly prepared food and great service. Really enjoyed our stay, in this very relaxing and nicely laid out hotel
Nothing at all to complain about. Grounds could have been a little more wheelchair/mobility scooter accessible.
