The history and the cosiness of it
Nothing
Fabulous area and just so lovely
The way they did the billing and made some errors
What a beautiful place the original part of the hotel is - absolutely stunning. The later additions are more like a travel lodge bolted on to maximise revenue and don’t continue the these of the hotel.
It’s more like a theme park or ‘experience’ than a luxury hotel. It’s a conveyor belt aimed at getting as many people through as possible. I get it - it’s broadway - but for the prices charged there should be some sort of priority for residents, and there isn’t.
The spa is well over sold - it’s pretty basic - a pretty small pool with a built in jacuzzi and a steam room.
There is nothing personal about it, to the point it becomes tacky - summed up by the fact I was promised a call from the manager after we left and still haven’t heard a month later.
Holes in the carpet and a broker shower drip-drip-dripping isn’t why I expected for £500+ per night.
If you want some nice picture and a bit of insta-gratification, visit by all means… if you want a proper luxury spa hotel, there are loads nearby that are more like it!
Always excellent and good access to garden for dog
No dislikes
Great location very well run hotel with genuinely friendly staff and amazing food!!
Nothing it was excellent!
The staff were helpful and wonderful. The building and the place were beautiful.
Rather expensive compared with other other five star hotels.
Very central and the staff are delightful
The restaurant is no where near as friendly as the hotel!
The staff were incredibly attentive - they all remembered our names and wished my husband a happy birthday. The staff also gave our dog, Kevin, a lot of treats and fuss which he absolutely loved. Also, the on-site spa is lovely and my massage was so worth it!
The only thing was that the hotel asked us to not leave our dog alone in the hotel room, which made using the spa together quite difficult. I also think the pool could do with some background music or something because everyone was silent, but it's no biggy, ha!
Great staff, spa lovely, food and drink very good, service very good.
Tv didn’t accommodate Apps. Bar staff watched us trying to find a seat in a very busy bar area when tables hadn’t been cleared and we had to ask them to do so.
Lovely setting suited a relaxing weekend
Bed was uncomfortable and fire alarm went off just as we were settling to sleep, so interrupted rest.
We booked to stay at the Lygon Arms last minute as we were visiting a friend in the area. It was a miserable day when we arrived but we were instantly warmed by the open fires that had been lit and the friendliness of the staff. We were too early to gain access to our room but the receptionist booked us in and stored our bags while we went off to see our friend. On our return we were shown to our room by a charming gentleman. The room was in the courtyard at the back of the hotel. It was a delightful room, tastefully decorated, spacious and had a large and very comfortable bed. The main hotel is very old and obviously has a lot of history (worth a google while you enjoy a drink) We had a couple of glasses of wine in a nice little nook and then after visiting a pub in Chipping Camden we returned to the hotel, where we sat in the bar and shared some delicious small plates.
One thing we weren’t aware of is the hotel has a small spa area, which is free to use if you have a room, so don’t forget to pack your swim wear! It’s also very doggy friendly so our dog will get a trip away next time.
There’s nothing not to like really. Granted, it isn’t the cheapest place to stay but everywhere in Broadway is expensive and I really feel the Lygon is worth the money.
The hotel in-terms of the bar and restaurant are lovely. But the room we had in the annexe was tired and in desperate need of an update. The bathroom was awful, mirror hanging of wall, tiles and grouting looked dirty! Dripping shower!!!
No nets on the windows, and when considering it’s on the ground floor next to main entrance, so the curtains are needed to be kept closed for privacy! considering the rest of the ground floor rooms did have nets so looks like they have been removed and not replaced.
room was next to main entrance to access the block of rooms, so when people were coming back and fore even late at night there was constant banging, as the soft door shutter was not working properly. lots of maintenance guys around but no effort to resolve this problem. For the price they charge, the room is certainly not worth the cost based on its condition.
Location & period of the property
Staff are excellent, polite and attentive
Food is very good in the Grill and bar area, we didn’t eat at the Tavern. A very nice place
Swimming pool looking its age tbh and could do with updating, difficult to to I suspect
Overall very good
Pillows, clearly the person who orders the pillows never sleeps on them and there’s no choice either, just two very flat pillows
Chairs in room not comfortable to sit and have a coffee and hanging over one chair is a light hanging down, very odd
Atmosphere and staff very good.
Great location
We had a bedroom in the main house. The nature of the building means the room was going to be dark but it was also dingy. The bathroom was dirty with poor quality fittings. The paintwork looked like it had been slapped on by a two year old. The room has definitely seen better days. I would not recommend staying in the main house. I suspect the courtyard rooms are better.
On the plus side, the staff are friendly and we had a good meal in the James Martin restaurant.
