We loved Baumaniere.
We had visited 5 or 6 times - on a couple of occasions for 10 days at a time. Staying in the very best suites. Eaten in Cairo D'Or and L'Oustau. Several times. Loved the goats and the gardens and generally it was synonymous with my family over the years.
Last year we stayed in the most expensive suite for 7 nights.
On our final night we had a crisis. There was a rainstorm the day before and on our last full day my daughter (15) was swimming in the pool. I had noticed the pool was full of worms - huge ones. Some alive, some dead. Lots of worm poop in the pool. Presumably because of the heavy rain. That night my daughter became very unwell. She was vomiting and in the middle of the night she collapsed and had a seizure on the floor. Terrified, we called reception who told us there was no doctor available and we would have to take her to hospital in Arles if we wanted help. We decided to keep her in the room and sponge her down, gave her paracetamol to lower her temp. and let her sleep (she was so limp with exhaustion and fever). By morning she was a bit improved but wiped out, still being sick and white as a sheet.
Reception didn't call us to see if we were ok. There was no care. No-one visited to see us. They knew she was very sick, that she had fainted and was very unwell. We packed up as we were checking out and carefully put our girl in the car and took her to the pharmacy in Mausanne. The pharmacist was amazing - kind, attentive and sooo helpful. She said it was most likely to have been the dirty pool water that had given my daughter a bacterial infection (it was only her who was affected and we had all eaten the same food). We then drove to the next hotel an hour away where we booked in for another 7 days - the staff there cared for my daughter like she was their own child. called to check on us, Made her special medicinal tea and offered to get a Doctor to help. The contrast was immense. We felt safe.
We loved Baumaniere. But there was no care. Three stars may mean superficial care in the dining room. But real attention is when you care about a sick cild staying with you and her distraught and terrified parents in the middle of the night.
We cant go back, even though we loved you. That makes me sad.
Restaurant very poor value. Main course of lamb quite expensive, and starvation-sized portion. Noise from loud talking on grounds went well past midnight.
The staff and property were superb! C'est magnifigue! Over our five night stay we never encountered any issues. Our room was spacious, the grounds beautiful and the staff very gracious.
Baumaniere is a very beautiful hotel, our room was very clean and comfortable. Beautiful gardens and three good swimming pools (though we only used 2). There is a free shuttle service to Les Baux de Provence and nearby restaurants and a paid service to further destinations using the hotel transport. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable . My only negative point is there was little to no mobile recption in the building we stayed I and the WiFi was intermittent and poor when available - great if you want to get away from everything but not if you needed to do some work!
O hotel e uma paraíso na terra. A propriedade é linda, os quartos super confortáveis, ótimos restaurantes. A Equipe foi extremamente cordial e eficiente. Vale viajar para ficar hospedado!
Great resort, unfortunately they forgot my birthday - no wishes on arrival, departure or restaurants - rest very nice
Very nice resort. We had a wonderful stay. The shuttle to local town and restaurants was great!
Unique location and development. Local monopoly, premium priced to app
Everything has been done to have an unforgettable experience : from the service to the room, the restaurant (Oustau) and the staff, we had a really beautiful week end. The location is stunning, the hotel very well maintained, our room was very comfortable and a strong attention to details to make it even more luxurious. La carriere des Lumieres visit suggested by the front desk team was also very nice. Thank you and Bravo!
L'Ousteau de Baumaniere is a mythical destination in French cuisine. Set in the other worldly moon like bauxite mine region of Les Bau de Provence, the main building/restaurant is nestled into the surrounding valley.
Three Michelin star chef Glenn Viel has brought new youthful treasures, while also continuing traditional dishes of Chef Charial, and his Grandfather who originally started L'Ousteau after the War.
Excellent cuisine, superb service, and one of the most extensive wine lists in the world.
A truly exceptional dining experience.
We stayed at Baumaniere for three nights - 8th - 11th Sept 24.
Baumaniere was one of five Relais and Chateaux properties that we stayed at on our two-week tour of Provence. It was the worst by some considerable margin.
When you pay over €900 per night, you expect a certain quality, which, sadly, Baumaniere lacked.
To be clear, there were no absolute disasters, although our evening meal at The Cabro d'Or was akin to visiting the Circus.
I shall try to provide an overview of why we felt let down.
The hotel is divided into two areas, 750 m apart and not connected in the way you might expect. Most resorts of this type are easily navigable, with signs and footpaths allowing easy access to the areas that you may want to wander to. The hotel does offer a shuttle that will take you from one area to the next, and whilst it was efficient, it was a pain to have to use when a stroll might have been preferable.
I should say that our room was in the old/original building, the same building that houses the 3-star Michelin restaurant. There were other rooms in this building, too.
We felt that little to no attention was paid to guests who stayed in this area. Indeed, I suspect that the hotel is fully focused on the Michelin Restaurant to the detriment of those staying in the building. Guests staying in this area of the hotel have no reception, no concierge, absolutely no one. If you want to see a staff member or have a face-to-face, you have to travel (via shuttle) to the reception 750 metres away.
I am aware that villa resorts work in this way, but this is a hotel in the traditional sense of the word.
We had to hop through puddles outside the front door daily. There must have been a leaking plant watering system, which nobody bothered to fix; it was just left...predominantly because nobody ever bothered to attend the area.
The seating in our room was very uncomfortable and pretty scruffy. Other than a nice view, it had no redeeming qualities and was probably worth half of what we paid.
When checking out, I always try to provide feedback (good or bad). I met the charming owner of this third-generation family-run business, who listened attentively to my concerns and made all the right noises. She also provided us with a bottle of Champagne as a "sorry," which was greatly appreciated. To be honest, we still felt a little short-changed after spending well over €3000 for three nights and one dinner.
In summary, I can't help feeling that someone at this property is asleep at the wheel. It has lots of potential but failed to deliver. Caveat Emptor!
quel autre lieu sublime que Baumanière les Baux de Provence Relais & Chateaux pour feter son anniversaire avec son mari et ses meilleurs amis :)
de plus nous avons été surclassé en suite.
This is a delicious and well-run property with a long history. Everything was perfect..almost. Our suite was very comfortable, but it was VERY dark inside. It was long and the only natural light is from the door (glass). That was our main criticism. The only other little quibble is there was absolutely nowhere to hang our sumptuous robes, and so the cleaning crew (and it WAS a crew) took to hanging them on the shower door or folded (wet) by the tub.
We really enjoyed the beautiful and very large garden, the many fountains and swimming pools. It’s an ideal place where to slow down and relax. The room was extremely large and our terrace was a great addition to it. Both restaurants are delicious. The chocolates that are sold in the boutique are to die for. Service is very attentive. It was just perfection.
We stayed for three nights to visit Arles and Saint Remy de Provence. Super friendly and motivated staff. We were up graded to a suite.
Great swimming pool area with bar services, tennis court and gym. The landscaping is beautiful. We visited the two restaurants. Both very recommendable. The 3 Michelin Star is an experience. We didn’t like the wine paring. Your are better of getting a nice bottle of Bordeaux.
Elegant and quiet property. Very well situated.
Very nice place to stay if you travel in Provence. High class hence expensive but worth every cent if you like the provencial style and beautiful nature.
Beautiful location, great service, restaurant was amazing, we rented e-bikes and biked to a hilltop town very close with amazing views and shops. This hotel I would highly recommend. Our room had a second level (loft) the prior owners art studio. Loved the grounds, patio areas, the shuttle was first class. Loved the whole experience! Definitely coming back!
