Really amazing place to visit. Definitely the best place to stay in Coimbra. This includes staff, buildings, gardens, restaurants and spa.
Very lovely hotel, excellent breakfast and really refined service. Steps to get into the hotel… but they help with the luggage.
We stayed here for two nights on our driving tour of Portugal. This is a lovely hotel on the outskirts of Coimbra - a gentle flat 20 min walk to the lower town where the restaurants and night life are. Amazing grand public rooms that seem to be largely unused. Nice pool and extensive gardens. Our room, in the modern extension was a bit small for a hotel of this class, but unexpectedly had a garden area. Excellent breakfast. On our first night we were a bit tired, so ate in the lesser of the eating options and were rather disappointed.
Breakfast excellent, room clean, safe environment.
Staff is great! Property is beautiful. Be mindful to ask for a room away from a main hallway to avoid a little noise. For us, even so, it was very nice.
Note: if you want to swim indoors bring a bathing cap. Outdoors not needed but indoors we were limited by this!
Our first impression upon opening the bedroom door of Room 34- disappointed. Our “garden view” was ugly. And the gym- poor quality equipment and a view of a white wall- not what I’d expect from a 5 star luxury hotel. Despite pleasant staff, a good breakfast and lovely outdoor pool area- gardens were not special, so I would not recommend for the price.
Incredible Farm to Table establishment operated by a 3rd generation family member in the heart of the Duro Valley wine country
The pool is beautiful but cold this time of year.
5 star
It was a lovely spot
This property is the old Palace and it is amazing . The gardens are beautiful with the backdrop of the love affair of Pedro and Ines. 5 stars! I would stay there again and highly recommend this hotel .
What features of a good hotel does the common sense suggest you? Good bedding? All amenities in a perfect shape? Cleanliness? Does the title of a member of the small luxury hotels of the world whip up your expectations?
Room 15 in Quinta da lágrima unfortunately doesn’t fit any of the features mentioned above. Wrinkled, worn-out mattress, the noisiest air conditioner ( the sound of a ready to take off plane), broken everything in the bathroom, dirty plums,… I am shocked.
How can this hotel be put in the same level with Nobu in Marbella or Vinha boutique hotel if to talk about Portuguese hotels?????
Shame
I’ve got a lot of more photos to share, if needed.
Amazing hotel! Staff is wonderful. Great experience!!
This former palace, turned luxury hotel, is divine. Connected to the famous "Pedro and Ines" tragic love story, the entire place oozes history and charm. We stayed in a lovely "garden" room, with an entry directly onto the extensive gardens (we spent a few hours touring the various parts of the garden - it is a local attraction even for those who are not staying at the hotel). Our room was a delightful mashup of old and new, with the historic "bones" of the structure intact, but fitted out with the modern amenities - great A/C, an extremely comfortable bed and high quality linens, great water pressure in the shower, delicious toiletries, and some fun (modern) ceiling art. Cleanliness was excellent and towels were refreshed whenever needed. The outdoor pool, where I perched numerous times in the hot weather, is wonderful, and of a size where swimming laps, for those so inclined (like my husband), is possible. The location is across the river from the university, but walkable (as long as you are able to navigate hills) and given the remove from "downtown," it is delightfully quiet at night.
The breakfast was varied and delicious, with a fresh omelet station, lots of delicious fruit, yogurts, breads and pastries, juices, etc. Outdoor seating is a must. We grew particularly fond of one of our breakfast helpers, Danilo - thanks for your cheerful and friendly assistance!
We ate one night at the gourmet restaurant, which was absolutely delicious, but be forewarned - the portions are large!! Service was fantastic.
Front desk assistance was professional and helpful - thanks to the entire team!
For the quality (and unique nature) of the lodgings, the food, the setting, the staff, etc., the price point was beyond reasonable. We would love to return to this lovely, underrated city, and when we do, we will be sure to stay at Quinta das Lagrimas once again.
Beautiful historic palace hotel set in lush gardens, with a pool, spa, restaurants, and walking trails tied to the Pedro & Inês tragic love story. Excellent English-speaking staff and outstanding service throughout.
We stayed in a garden room with direct outdoor access, which opened directly onto a private outdoor area furnished with table and chairs as well as having easy paths to the spa and pool. Breakfast buffet was excellent, with an omelet station.
Rooms have several outlets, but most are low and behind furniture so bring long charging cables. No USB ports noted. Bathtub can be slippery when used for showers.
Stay at least 3 nights; this is more than a hotel, it’s a destination.
Quinta das Lágrimas has such an important and interesting place in Portuguese history, which we enjoyed learning about during our stay. The old house and surrounding gardens are beautiful and romantic, even in the winter. Our room was in the spa wing, and it was large and comfortable, but the “Queen” bed was actually two twins pushed together (which is common in Europe), the shower flooded easily, and the bathroom door was extremely difficult to lock and unlock. As Canadians, we were also surprised to learn that we were not allowed to use the indoor pool without a swimming cap.

A delightful historical building with lots of character. We had a lovely bedroom with its own garden. The hotel grounds are spectacular in themselves. There is a 9 hole pitch and putt course. The swimming pool looked lovely but we didn’t get chance to use a lot of the facilities as we only stayed one night.
Check in was great, the room was outstanding, and the gardens made for a nice stroll with a glass of wine.
Extraordinary history surrounding this property.
Nice property and grounds. We stayed here as we drove from Lisbon to Porto on the way to Douro valley. This is palace converted into a hotel, however, the rooms are a bit of a let down.
Worth the value for one night.
Breakfast was very good to eat in the garden.
