Lovely medieval building, set on a hill above an industrial area. No real opportunity to stroll into a charming adjacent village. . The rooms vary widely in quality of decor, amenities, or charm. The hotel staff is friendly but understaffed. The Michelin starred chef left a year ago. Current staff is overwhelmed and food options are very limited with no choices and very basic execution. Breakfast is adequate, but with grocery store croissants and powdered scrambled eggs it is sonewhat of a challenge to satisfy.one’s appetite. This is not at all an experience one expects at a Relais et Chateau property.
What an amazing chateau! So beautiful. We had a turret room which was grand. Did the wine tasting; had amazing dinners cooked by the incredible chef. Breakfast had everything you could possibly want from cheese, salmon, meats, muesli, fresh yogurt,
Eggs,
Fabulous breads and jams, whole box of honeycomb. Cannot recommend enough. Only disappointment was it was too cold to swim in the beautiful huge pool.
Relais and Chateaux-no- no NON!
Where to even begin? Our experience at Château Mer was one of the most disappointing hotel stays we've had in recent memory — especially considering the Relais & Châteaux label and the premium pricing.
We arrived on the afternoon of Monday, September 15th, and the lack of welcome was immediately noticeable. It took quite some time before anyone appeared at the front desk. Though the staff were pleasant enough, the entire welcome experience lacked polish, warmth, and organization. It felt chaotic, under-trained, and oddly indifferent — think Fawlty Towers, but without the charm.
We were offered an iced tea in what I assume was meant to be a tranquil garden. Unfortunately, the space was poorly maintained: wilted plants, uneven pathways, and furniture that had seen better days. The setting felt unloved. And yet, despite all this, the building itself is stunning — a beautiful old grande dame perched in an enviable location. That makes what follows all the more frustrating.
Room Disaster (a.k.a. “The Upgrade”)
After a long wait with no communication, we were told we’d been “upgraded.” Normally, that would be welcome news — but this so-called upgrade turned out to be a turret room spread over two floors. The first floor had a small room - basically an entryway - with a desk and a bench, a room with a sit-in tub/sink and another with a toilet. Up a stone spiral staircase was the sleeping room which had a round bed and a bizarre layout that made
We visited the castle in early August. It looks fantastic. Personell is friendly and English speaking.
Unfortunately there were several negative issues to be mentioned.
Internet is not secure.
Air conditioning did not work.
Visiting La Table gastronomique at at Château de Mercuès

We had reservation for The Chef's Table on August the 5th, 2025. Normal degustation menu costs Euro 200. Chef's table menu (the same) costs Euro 250.
We arrived at the restaurant and very quickly realised that the Chef did not want to communicate with us. At all. He even did not come to say hello. In one hour of his absence from our table we decided not to disturb him from his work and asked somilleier to relocate us to the dining room which has been done quickly and effectively.
This is not the first time when we ordered this option and I understand the difference between a Micheline starred Chef who is eager to communicate with the guests and young chef without any stars who who hates comunication with his guests.
His cooking was not bad but it looks like it was his revolt against the owner of the hotel who had advertised this option against his will.
I wrote a letter with complaints to the management and asked them to remove not valid option from their Web site not to confuse other perspective customers.
I did not get any reply.
Nobody apologised for the issue on departure but they charged for normal menu only.
Le personnel est extrêmement accueillant et agréable
We had a great experience at Chateau de Mercues where we stayed for 2 nights. The site is stunning with fabulous views over the river Lot. Excellent dinners, wine facilities visits and a very large swimming pool which is not so common.
We are just on our way home from a wedding where we spent two days at this absolutely delightful chateau.
It had all the usual fantastic elements such as a picture perfect view, beautiful grounds, fantastic food and wine, lovely rooms etc but what set it apart for me was the amazing standard of service by every single staff member.
I have stayed in many expensive hotels all around the world but the staff at this particular hotel were by far the most courteous, polite and helpful that I have ever encountered by some considerable margin. I could have picked any single staff member and they would have typically been the one exemplary person you might occasionally get somewhere else but here it was just simply everyone which is something I have never encountered previously.
Will definitely stay again one day!
The hotel was a wonderful ancient building, superbly positioned on top of a hill. Our room was very good and the beautiful gardens and swimming pool much appreciated. All the staff were very friendly. We would stay again. The restaurant was quiet and we felt a bit "overserviced" with staff coming to our table more than was required. We felt the restaurant was not the same value-for-money as the hotel stay as the wines by the glass seemed overpriced.
This property trades on its location and the fairy-tale chateau. Beyond that the property is tired and uninspiring, service is okay (but not enough staff), room cleanliness was poor and the eating options are very limited. I particularly didn’t like being asked three times at checkout whether I was sure we didn’t have breakfast…hhmm, let me think!! Not the special experience our friends had promised. Wouldn’t come again.
Det er et charmerende château, som gemmer på en masse historie. Desværre var der en del bananfluer på vores værelse, som føltes urent. Indretningen og kunsten passer ikke rigtig til fællesarealerne og det hele kunne godt trænge til at blive opdateret.
It was our second visit here and for 2 nights this time as we wanted to spend some time in Cahors.
As before, it lived up to our expectations be it the bedroom with its splendid view, the restaurant and bar, the courtyard, gardens and all the public spaces. We obviously had breakfast on both mornings which were good and a great evening meal reviewed on the other Tripadvisor chateau site.
We did the winery and wine tasting again and enjoyed it whilst my wife used the pool which she enjoyed.
All the staff we met were friendly and helpful we a third visit being on the cards next year.
The restaurant was a big disappointment and a reason to reconsider staying in the future. The restaurant information on line suggests that there are ala carte choices but in reality it is a fixed menu (2 options) with no choices. There are likely many customers who like me cannot eat certain foods and would prefer some flexibility even if in the set menu format.
Très bon service. Chambre superbe (surclassée en plus !)
Highly recommend. The setting is beautiful, with breathtaking views over the entire surroundings. Food was really exceptional and staff were super helpful with everything.
amazing site and hotel
The hotel is in a lovely small village with exceptionally well maintained gardens to walk around.
The restaurant was amazing the staff attentive and the room well maintained and comfortable to sleep.
This was our 6th stay at the Chateau de Mercues, the last being in 2022. This time was much improved from the previous which was still recovering from the pandemic. We have had Room 7 five times and this time Room 6 which was even more luxurious - both overlooking the weir. The chateau itself is beautiful but we noticed that the grounds are not kept as well as our first stay in 2016. The herb garden has gone and it is 'kept' without being beautifully kept. The Chateau itself is immaculate and the Bar and Restaurant areas lovely. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed for four nights this time. The first night we had a meal in Le Dueze. We think it is overpriced and the portions are minute - also very expensive for the petit option - Euros 150 each. It is not to our taste but it is the only option available when Le Bistro is closed. We had one night with a platter on the terrace which was lovely but only because Le Dueze was full and I asked in advance of our stay to have that. On previous occasions, platters were available in the rooms but I felt I had to push for it. The Bistro was excellent on both nights - much more to our taste and on the second night the chef offered to do us something different which was kind so we didn't have to have the same food two nights running. We felt this time the staff were more helpful and trying harder. The only gripe we had with our room - which we also had with our previous room is that the plumbing is very bad in the sinks which drain very, very slowly. Only the sinks, the rest of the plumbing is fine so I wonder if they need some attention. Overall, a beautiful place and a most relaxing stay.
Prachtig gelegen kasteel-hotel met fraai zwembad en uitstekende keuken
You feel like a princess! It is a beautiful Chateau. The staff is amazing and take care of anything you need.
Most expensive Hotel on our monrh long cycle trip through France, but yet again C&R lived up to our expectations. Don't think many guests struggle up the hill to the Hotel, but our sweaty demeanour didnt detract from a warm welcome. Felt like staying in a real Chateau but fortunately room had all modern features, it was also cool, quiet and dark at night.
Very good breakfast and a very nice pool tucked away beyond the wonderful trees.
Staff superb throughout.
Worth it for a special treat/occasion
