Lovely Christmas decorations in the entrance area were welcoming and set the standard for an excellent 4-night stay. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The bedroom was large, clean, quiet and well appointed and the compact bathroom spotlessly clean. The food at breakfast and dinner was consistently good and the vegetables always perfectly cooked - often a challenge for mass catering. Laura made sure everything went well throughout our stay and we cannot thank her enough for ensuring high standards were maintained.
Situated on the outskirts of Oxford the hotel is close to beautiful country walks and a nearby bus stop makes travel to and from the city centre very easy. We will certainly return.
I was very utterly disappointed with my stay at Leonardo Royal Hotel Oxford.
To start with, the bin in my room was not even cleaned, which already gave a bad first impression. After a long day of travelling and activities, all I wanted was to check in, rest, and get some sleep.
However, at around 10:45 PM, there were three loud knocks on my door, and before I could properly respond, a hotel staff member unlocked and opened my door using their hotel key card. This was extremely disturbing and made me feel unsafe and shocked. I do not expect hotel staff to enter my room at night without my permission, especially when the room is clearly occupied.
I immediately went down to reception to ask what had happened. I was told they were “looking for a duvet” and thought my room was empty, so they intended to take it. They also said that the “morning guest had already checked out.” I genuinely do not understand why they could not check their system first before unlocking an occupied room. Surely there should be spare duvets available, and there should absolutely be a better procedure than knocking on a guest’s door late at night and letting themselves in.
The explanation I received was extremely poor basically just “oh sorry, we don’t know.” That is not enough when a guest’s privacy and sense of safety has been violated.
This experience was handled terribly, and the service was unacceptable. I felt uncomfortable for the rest of my stay.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was excellent with plenty of options, the reception was decorated for Christmas lovely, there was fruit and flavored water available in the lobby area, the restaurant Leo’s was very good.
Overall the stay was good the only disappointment was the swimming pool was closed.
Poor experience. Freezing cold room and the heating limited so never warmed up. Duvet stank of cigarette smoke and getting another took ages. We came here because of the pool, which was not open. Very loud Xmas party going on until late, so putting family rooms nearby is not sensible. Room itself was small and basic, but 2 double beds in it. One was right by the window though which somehow let a breeze through despite being shut. Didn’t help with the cold.
I attended training here. Disappointed with the cleanliness of the communal areas. There was vomit on the staircase up to the conference rooms. This was reported to the front desk by multiple people but was not cleaned up. The toilets also need more regular cleaning.
The reason I've chosen average is because of the staff. On arrival, we were greeted by the moodiest lady on check-in the way she rolled her eyes, and her body language was terrible it was like she's didn't want to be there. The bar staff also had issues they couldn't cope with when busy, and one chap in the evening shouldn't have been too he had poor customer service skills. Management may need to have a word with staff. (Checked in Saturday, 6th 1430pm)
The rooms were nice and modern
The location 15mins drive to the centre
Nice hotel on the outskirts of the city centre. We stayed for a visit to the xmas market in the centre aswell as seeing bleniham palace
The hotel has great onsite parking and the bus stops for nearby centre , palace and bister village are just across the road
Our room was large clean and modern the reception staff helpful and friendly
We would stay here again
Every thing excellent specially the reception staff very helpful and I would like to thanks mr.sergy and ms. Lina for the fast response to solve any problems and the nice treatment and mr.gorge the chef who take care of us every morning by himself to check everything is ok in the breakfast
The hotel is well appointed ,comfortable. The room was spacious and clean ,the bed extremely agreeable . The cleanliness was to a high standard .
On the down side I found the bathroom extremely small and would much prefer a walk in shower to a shower in a bath arrangement ,especially in a room that compact . i found that the room thermostat was tucked into a corner and extremely difficult to access .although it is simple to operate .
I was also disappointed to have pay for parking in a hotel that is some 20minutes from the town centre but in fairness on reading the hotel information it does state that parking is due to be paid . Overall a good stay and with some minor adjustments will be a top place to stay .
Stayed here on 7th November to see stagefright inside no9 at the new theatre. Staff very friendly and room very clean . Used the spa facilities whilst there . Beds and pillows new and had a good night sleep. Overall it was a lovely experience
I don't usually write reviews after only visiting once but wanted to praise the very good customer service that we received at the Leonardo Royal Hotel on the edge of Oxford. I didn't write down the name of the lady who checked us in on Sunday evening a week ago. She was smart and professional. From being checked in throughout our stay all interactions that my brother and I had with staff were very good. Collins on the desk night staff, Viktor at breakfast (a very good large buffet breakfast, thanks to the cooks and kitchen staff), housekeeping, and Brendan on reception the following morning. While the hotel building is basically an awful concrete block, and the location not so attractive the lobby is a very nice feature, the rooms good and the bar and restaurant are pleasant spaces. A good location if you want to be on that side of Oxford with easy access to the motorway and major roads but not far from the centre.
We booked the Executive room - very spacious, spotless clean, comfy beds , soft pillows, bathroom very clean. Breakfast excellent a lot to choose from. Bus stop just opposite to the hotel.. take bus no. 6 it will bring you to Oxford city center around 10 - 12 mins travel. I highly recommend Marco Pierre Bar & Grill Restaurant which is located in the hotel itself 2nd Floor.
Stayed here Saturday night in a superior double room, comfortable bed, spotlessly clean (bathroom on the small side but well equipped). We had an excellent breakfast. Highly recommend this hotel.
We really enjoyed our recent stay. The location is great- bus stop just outside to easily get into Oxford and a few minutes walk takes you to a meadow and country village. The hotel was immaculate and staff were friendly and helpful. The choice and quality of the breakfast were 5 star. We enjoyed the steam room/ sauna, the pool was small but good to have. The gym was very well equipped. Found the hotel bar very expensive and lacking atmosphere. The family room was quite small and lacking storage space and hangers for 4 people - twin beds and a double are needed for families rather than two doubles but it was a good value price.
We stayed while celebrating my birthday and this hotel was wonderful. Perfectly situated for a trip in to Oxford, especially if using the park and ride service. The team on reception were very welcoming, friendly and chatty. We were given a complimentary upgrade on our room, which was fantastic.
The room was incredibly spacious and well appointed. The bed was massive, only niggle was that we would have liked some extra pillows, but to be honest, we didn't request any extra and I don't think it would have been a problem if we did. The room had a Nespresso machine and pods, as well as the kettle and usual teas and coffees, which I must note were plentiful! There were complimentary waters in the mini fridge too which was a nice touch. There was an iron and ironing board in the room, along with a hairdryer. The room was immaculately clean, and good temperature. We slept very well, and the hotel was really quiet over night even with us being close to the reception area.
The bathroom was small and not sure about the frosted glass door, which when using the facilities at night meant the light shone straight on to the bed and woke up my husband. The bath was a nice element, but absolutely tiny, and we couldn't help but feel that with all the space in the room, the bathroom could have been extended to fit in a full size bath. However, those were the only negatives, the bathroom was clean, the water was HOT HOT HOT, the shower pressure was great. There were flannels provided as well as towels and also body wash, shampoo, hand wash and lotion all provided.
The only other complaint was first thing in the morning, at around 9.30am, we were getting ourselves dressed and ready for breakfast when someone (we assume, and hope) from housekeeping buzzed themselves into the room, and while they didn't fully open the door, it was very unnerving as I had just got out of the shower. As soon as they realised the room was occupied, they left.
We had dinner in the Marco Pierre White restaurant, which I will review separately, but in one word...outstanding.
We also had breakfast in the morning, which was very nice. So much choice, and really worth the money. The hot food was hot, with many options, including different varieties of eggs. The continental options were plenty! With cereals, fruit, cheeses, meets, yoghurt, pastries etc the list goes on! Plenty of drink options available too.
Overall we had a fabulous time at this hotel, and it was our first stay in a Leonardo hotel, but it definitely won't be the last if this is the standard. Really great experience.
Our family of 4 stayed in a family room at the Leonardo Oxford for a night after a University visit and some shopping at Bicester Village.
Location is only about 15-20 minutes from Bicester and on the outskirts of Oxford. Early impressions are not great as it is just off a very busy roundabout where there is currently a lot of construction ongoing. However was pleasantly surprised that the hotel itself was not noisy. Hotel is a couple of miles away from Oxford city centre to be prepared to get a Uber or bus into the main area.
Our room was spacious but quite worn down - think marks on the carpet, some mould in shower grouting and tape patching up a part of the bath! Was fine for one night but definitely not high quality.
Food options at the hotel were decent - there is pub style food which you can order to your room and we enjoyed a nice breakfast the next morning with a good buffet selection.
Hotel also has leisure facilities with a small pool, steam room and sauna and a gym.
Overall it looks like the kind of place which is well suited to large groups and work conferences. Not the place you want to stay if you are looking for something special or something with wow factor and was overpriced for what it was.
A good relaxing holiday. The hotel room was lovely. There was a few minor issues but nothing that impacted my holiday. I visited the marco Pierre white restaurants.
The food was amazing, the service by Marius was wonderfully. The table next to us was not the most pleasant. He handled it with amazing professionalism.
Overall, when visiting Oxford, the hotel is a really good choice for a place to stay
This is now my 5th or 6th Leonardo hotel that I have stayed in, some more than once, and whilst I have not reviewed them all here, I have come to the conclusion that its just a name and not a guarantee of consistency. There was ample parking, charged at £6 for 24hrs which is reasonable. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. If you have mobility issues, no matter how small, ensure you let them know upon booking to ensure your room is not one of the furthest away from reception or up stairs as there are no lifts and the stair wells are small, lugging a suitcase around is not fun. I was offered the option for someone to take my case for me and thought this was them just being polite but should have accepted it as the directions provided were not exact and I ended up going down one corridor, up a set of stairs, along another corridor, down a set of stairs, reached a wall phone and called reception for directions which meant another corridor and set of stairs as I had gone in a loop unnecessarily. There was no view only other parts of the hotel out of the window. The room was spacious but difficult to heat. I ordered room service and paid the tray charge simply as at that point I did not relish the idea of several corridors and stair cases carrying one of their heavy trays as you can collect for free from reception. There was a new Leo's menu but chose the salad, only to find there was no salad available or rice dish, after settling for the club sandwich I spent some time dismantling it to reduce the copious amount of mayonnaise from the chicken section, which looked and tastes similar to standard catering chicken mayo, and pulling the cold fat off the bacon. I left the tray outside my room for collection but it was still there at checkout the next morning.
I went for breakfast at 8 and as I had a leisurely morning stayed and chatted to colleagues before returning to my room at 9.30 to work until checkout. Having navigated housekeeping obstacles all the way back, I was a bit dismayed to find my room door propped open with a towel I had used the night before, I called reception to confirm checkout was at 11am and that is when the housekeeper turned up asking if this was my room, because I had taken my suitcase to the car already and my other bag with me as I had planned to work over breakfast, they had knocked and when they entered and found no cases, assumed I had left. I was advised to put the do not disturb sign on the door, but surely there should be a better system, what if I was sleeping and they knocked? I would have awoken to a housekeeper peeking round the corner at me? I sleep with ear plugs so may not have heard the initial knocking!
I have the utmost respect for housekeeping teams, they are working over large distances, often on tight timescales, and I dont want to think about the condition some guests leave their room, but at 11am to enable me to checkout, I had to side step bottles of chlorinated water, hoovers, trollies, and primark bags containing toilet rolls, hopefully there are housekeeping supply cupboards around the site and they were not expected to carry these items from a central store, but even in a hotel this size, there are enclosed trollies available to purchase which could hold all the supplies and be positioned on those corridors without having to leave everything cluttering a fire escape route? The photos included were only the ground floor, the upper floor was much worse.
Did not use eith workspace or gym
Stayed in the hotel for 2 nights & couldn't find any fault, the rooms are lovely & clean, the main area's are lovely & welcoming any staff I encountered were friendly & welcoming.
Dined in the bar last night & the food was beautiful but I'd like to give a special mention to Amrita who served us last night & couldn't have been nicer if she tried, not a forced or fake nice, just a lovely friendly & helpful nice and extremely polite and efficient.
