Disappointing If I’m honest
Pros:

Initial impressions were good, the exterior of the hotel was nice and the check inn process was efficient and friendly.

However the room was dated and in need of repair. The carpet had stains everywhere and parts of the bathroom were rusty. There was also a prom on the evening we stayed and the hotel was very very noisy.

Did not enjoy the peaceful night we were hoping for and did not feel like valued clientele.

Excellent position
Pros:

This is a lovely hotel. Ideal for a visit to Oxford. Easy transport links. Park and Ride and number 6 bus.
Reception staff are welcoming and helpful. Free welcome drink is a nice touch.
We eat in their restaurant on the first evening. It was busy so reserve a table.
Food was delicious.
Breakfast is well stocked. Staff work hard to keep it running efficiently .
It could be a little bit warmer.
Rooms ( we stayed in 238) are well equipped and very clean.
We did think the water in fridge would have been replaced for our second day.

Budget price but 5 star quality
Pros:

We stayed overnight en route to Portsmouth from Scotland. Excellent location with plenty of parking and very close to the Peartree P&R which we used to visit Oxford. Excellent service and £2.50 for car and two adults. Spacious room and excellent breakfast with wide range of choices. Friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Pros:

Had an excellent stay at Leonardo hotel. Unfortunately had to cut the 2 day stay short due to my partner having a medical emergency. But with this they were absolutely incredible with the refund policy and help in our time of need. A big thank you to Sania at the front desk I hope this recognition is seen.

Parking Fines
Pros:

I am a volunteer for a charity and drive their Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle. On the 23 February 2026, I had to take a disabled person from Oxford to Brighton and stayed overnight on the 22/23 at the Leonardo Oxford. As this is an electric vehicle i didn't use the carpark overnight and charged it at a local on street charge point. I told this to reception and no mention was made of the parking conditions. Next morning I collected the vehicle at 07.00 and went back to the Leonardo for breakfast.
I didn't know the parking requirements and have incurred a £100 penalty. An expensive breakfast! Having read other reviews claiming scam parking conditions here, the hotel, should carefully consider their reputation in using the parking company ParkMaven and make sure that the breakfast reception staff as well as the main reception advice customers of the parking requirements and which include the warning of a £100 penalty.

THREE MONTHS LATER, STILL NO INVOICE!!
Pros:

I was assured by this hotel that my invoice would be sent by email, I stayed 7 days in November 2025. My invoice never came, despite multiple emails asking for it, STILL NO INVOICE 3 MON THS LATER!! Reception staff literally refused to replenish the complementary water in the room after the first day!! They told me that water is only for the day of arrival, 7 days and they refused to refill the water. Horrible customer service made the whole experience bitter even till now, where I am still begging for my invoice!! If you want a peaceful dignified stay-DO NOT GO HERE!! They just do not care!

Nightmare anniversary trip away..please do not leave jewellery in your room
Pros:

I have held off writing this review just in case the staff who 'took' my 10th anniversary dimond necklace found it with in themselves to give it back (my husband even travelled back to the hotel to offer cash for its return.) Please be very, very careful if you stay here as cleaning staff , or may be other, are not to be trusted. Such a shame as it seems a nice hotel but we feel robbed from our experience 😢

Excellent customer service
Pros:

I had booked a room for 3 of us through Lastminute.com, however when we arrived we were informed that despite the booking saying 3 adults, we only had a double room with no space for the 3rd guest and the hotel was full! The very helpful chap on reception, Sergei, gave us a voucher to have a drink in the bar whilst he tried to sort it out. After a short while, he came and let me know that he had managed to swap things around so he could accommodate us in a larger room with a camp bed. The room was excellent and he had very thoughtfully provided some treats for my niece and nephew.

The breakfast was superb, with high quality ingredients and an amazing selection.

Every member of staff we encountered was smiling, polite and helpful. They really went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.

Plenty of better options nearby
Pros:

Stayed @ Leonardo Royal for a quick solo break from London, and I’d say the 4 star rating is quite generous.
For the same cost I could have booked a place closer to the city center.
The carpeting in my room had stains, the kettle was so covered in limescale I was turned off from using it, and the bathroom is so tiny there’s scarcely enough space to hang my towel.
The finishes on the bathtub and faucets were also showing age/ poor maintenance as well.

The fitness center is quite small considering the size of the hotel and the fact that it also accepts members who are not guests, and the equipment was clearly showing its age.
Furthermore, the pool and sauna were closed and the steam room is no larger than a closet. It fits, at most, 5 adults if they really squeeze in shoulder to shoulder.

Last, I paid £18 for access to the breakfast offerings, which were very disappointing. A really lovely brunch (with much MUCH better coffee) is readily available in town at the local shops and cafes for equivalent or less. The food from the restaurant is also fairly disappointing, dry, underseasoned chicken breast (unless you want to pay extra for sauce) for £22.

Overall, lackluster accommodation.

Great service from front desk and a comfortable stay
Pros:

We stayed in Junior suite for a short break. Room was lovely, beautifully clean, and quiet. We thought breakfast was great and really appreciated the omelette station, and the fun and kind manner of the cook running it. Location is easy for Wolvercote and a walk into Oxford along the canal, or for the bus into Oxford. One of the reasons we picked this hotel was that parking - whilst still extra - is relatively reasonable compared to other Oxford hotels.

What really impressed us however was the front desk. We left a bottle of premium gin in the room by mistake and messaged the hotel. The front desk team proactively liaised with housekeeping, communicated with us about it, and informed their own team, so that we could collect it from the hotel on Christmas Eve. It was great service.

The hotel itself does have a bit of a conference feel to it, but we really enjoyed our stay and felt very well looked after.

Comfortable hotel with good food, service and amenities
Pros:

Lovely Christmas decorations in the entrance area were welcoming and set the standard for an excellent 4-night stay. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The bedroom was large, clean, quiet and well appointed and the compact bathroom spotlessly clean. The food at breakfast and dinner was consistently good and the vegetables always perfectly cooked - often a challenge for mass catering. Laura made sure everything went well throughout our stay and we cannot thank her enough for ensuring high standards were maintained.
Situated on the outskirts of Oxford the hotel is close to beautiful country walks and a nearby bus stop makes travel to and from the city centre very easy. We will certainly return.

Extremely Disappointing and Disturbing Experience
Pros:

I was very utterly disappointed with my stay at Leonardo Royal Hotel Oxford.

To start with, the bin in my room was not even cleaned, which already gave a bad first impression. After a long day of travelling and activities, all I wanted was to check in, rest, and get some sleep.

However, at around 10:45 PM, there were three loud knocks on my door, and before I could properly respond, a hotel staff member unlocked and opened my door using their hotel key card. This was extremely disturbing and made me feel unsafe and shocked. I do not expect hotel staff to enter my room at night without my permission, especially when the room is clearly occupied.

I immediately went down to reception to ask what had happened. I was told they were “looking for a duvet” and thought my room was empty, so they intended to take it. They also said that the “morning guest had already checked out.” I genuinely do not understand why they could not check their system first before unlocking an occupied room. Surely there should be spare duvets available, and there should absolutely be a better procedure than knocking on a guest’s door late at night and letting themselves in.

The explanation I received was extremely poor basically just “oh sorry, we don’t know.” That is not enough when a guest’s privacy and sense of safety has been violated.

This experience was handled terribly, and the service was unacceptable. I felt uncomfortable for the rest of my stay.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Would definitely stay again
Pros:

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was excellent with plenty of options, the reception was decorated for Christmas lovely, there was fruit and flavored water available in the lobby area, the restaurant Leo’s was very good.
Overall the stay was good the only disappointment was the swimming pool was closed.

Don’t bother
Pros:

Poor experience. Freezing cold room and the heating limited so never warmed up. Duvet stank of cigarette smoke and getting another took ages. We came here because of the pool, which was not open. Very loud Xmas party going on until late, so putting family rooms nearby is not sensible. Room itself was small and basic, but 2 double beds in it. One was right by the window though which somehow let a breeze through despite being shut. Didn’t help with the cold.

I attended training here. Disappointed with the cleanliness of the communal areas. There was vomit on the staircase up to the conference rooms. This was reported to the front desk by multiple people but was not cleaned up. The toilets also need more regular cleaning.

MISERABLE STAFF
Pros:

The reason I've chosen average is because of the staff. On arrival, we were greeted by the moodiest lady on check-in the way she rolled her eyes, and her body language was terrible it was like she's didn't want to be there. The bar staff also had issues they couldn't cope with when busy, and one chap in the evening shouldn't have been too he had poor customer service skills. Management may need to have a word with staff. (Checked in Saturday, 6th 1430pm)

The rooms were nice and modern

Great hotel
Pros:

Nice hotel on the outskirts of the city centre. We stayed for a visit to the xmas market in the centre aswell as seeing bleniham palace
The hotel has great onsite parking and the bus stops for nearby centre , palace and bister village are just across the road
Our room was large clean and modern the reception staff helpful and friendly
We would stay here again
