Shabby chic grandeur, great location . Breakfast underwhelming
Pros:

Location, style and upgrade to better room than usual

Cons:

The breakfast was disappointing. Coffee weak and tasteless, oj advertised as freshly ground when tasted like concentrate, some items unavailable, not brought everything you need to enjoy your breakfast.

Great hotel and I love the period detail. Its in a prime location and so perfect for my trips to Glasgow. Its just such a shame that this place is closing next week.

Cons:

Having to use the key card for access on all levels. Infuriating when carrying heavy luggage!

A building with real history. Ask about it.
Pros:

Wonderful old building, the lift/elevator was a work of art. Decor in the public areas was so in keeping with the building. The rooms were well appointed if on the warm side. Bathroom functional.

Cons:

Room on 1st night was like a sauna (room 201). Barely slept. Asked for a room change and were given room 210. - much larger and less hot. Decor in both rooms was eyecatching. Bed comfortable.

Let down by the experience
Pros:

The receptionist was absolutely outstanding – extremely helpful, very polite, and professional, and I had a free room upgrade.

Cons:

Unfortunately, the hotel itself let the experience down. While I understand it’s an older property, the standard of cleanliness and attention to detail was extremely poor. The carpet at the reception area was very dirty, not great first impression. Surfaces weren’t properly clean, there was no fridge in the room, and the bottles of water provided were warm. The coffee facilities: Coffee/Tea sachets dumped on the tray, no teaspoons and a very unclean nespresso machine with no capsules, so no espresso for me either. Broken glass in the windows as well.

Breakfast was included in the price, but it turned out to be an ORDERED breakfast- I understand the intention to reduce waste, which is great, but in 2025 there should be a more efficient system that allows guests to have breakfast quickly and conveniently. I start work at 8.00 and the restaurant opened at 7.00, so I had only 15 minutes before going to work, assuming there would be a buffet to grab something quickly. Instead, everything had to be ordered: coffee, juice, everything, not even a jar of fresh water was available for the guests. At 7:00 am, the waiter seemed just to be waking up and moving at a very slow pace, so there was no chance of getting breakfast in time, so I left.

This might work well for someone on holiday with no schedule, but for a modern business traveller, it’s not practical. The staff were lovely and did their best, but unfortunately, the hotel experience as a whole fell short. I won’t be returning.

1x genügt
Pros:

Zimmer war soweit i.

Pros:

pretty hotel and nice staff but a bit haphazard service wise

Cons:

Skimpy coffee facilities in room without refills unless sought out. Ditto toilet rolls. No fridge or minibar. Heating in room did not work.
