Love the aesthetic, very clean and the room amenities were good. Best of all the staff are very professional and friendly, any issues are resolved on the spot
Bit of a maze to get to the room;
There’s no cotton buds etc in bathrooms
The location of the hotel, in a neighborhood, was perfect since it meant that the stay was peaceful. It was also walking distance from the center of town and the train station. We found the hotel cozy - our favorite spot was in the bar by the fire. We liked having a light bite there in the evening as opposed to the dining room.
We did not have breakfast in our room rate but were given a choice of the full breakfast (25 pounds) or the option to order Ala carte. We both enjoyed our food on the occasion when we did have breakfast there, but there is also a small bakery right across the road where one can buy coffee and a sweet or savory pastry.
Our room on the third floor was a comfortable size, and clean. The bathroom was nicely appointed with a heated tile floor. We appreciated maid service and the replenishment of water and coffee on a daily basis. The room was quiet even though it was facing the street probably due to the fact that the original windows were enclosed. Unfortunately, that meant we could not open them.
The hotel overall was very comfortable and offers quite a few amenities including restaurant, bar, tea room, spa, parking. And, there is a pantry with free snacks on the 2nd floor - popcorn, chips, candy, and drinks (including a place to refill water bottles).
I would definitely book No 1 by GuestHouse again.
The room, while comfortable, badly needed a new mattress. My husband's back suffered greatly.
The toggle switches in the room were a mystery. It would have been good to have a tutorial - either in person or written on a card.
There was a lot of decor, but not anywhere to put (and open) our suitcases. Not everyone unpacks for a shorter stay.
The staff were great but often situationally unaware. A breakfast server is pleasant but much too loud in an otherwise quiet dining room. The housekeeping staff gathering cleaning supplies in the hallway chatted very loudly for at least 35 minutes while we tried to sleep in one morning.
Location was excellent but the room needs a fridge. Did not have breakfast as I do not as a rule have a breakfast. Lovely staff and very pretty place .but the pillows was not very plump
Location was brilliant. Room was pretty and good clean bathroom.
Best stay so far
Nothing
Lovely old building.. Easy access to the town .
Charming interior.
No fridge. Sterilized long life milk. A Dolls house in the way , no room to make drinks.
Wonky floor boards, played havoc with my vertigo.
A record player sounds great, but left no room for my things.
Not enough room to hang clothes, left mine In Suitcase. The room was so small my husband and myself could not walk past each other as the bed filled the space.
No room in bathroom for toiletries.
Sink took ages to empty.
Breakfast was over priced.
Parking cost £50 for Two days, astronomical in my opinion.
Would not stay again.
Tastefully decorated, very friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent. Not too from the centre. Treated myself to a massage and cream tea too whilst I was there which I recommend.
Nothing really, by I couldn’t work out how to use the coffee machine
Everything- it’s was so homely intimate and stylish !
The staff were amazing and the rooms so gorgeous! Loved loved loved our stay

It’s a beautiful building and the staff were very friendly. The decor in the room was lovely.

Τοποθεσία πολύ καλή
Magnifique établissement, chambres somptueuses et literie très confortable
Le seul bémol est la qualité du service et de la restauration. Petit déjeuner et dîner de qualité moyenne et service très lent et moyennement aimable
Good location in York. Comfortable bed, very good breakfast
Water for shower didn't stay consistently warm. No warm water in the bathtub at all, so what's the point? Walking to our room through the restaurant was odd.
