Not what I expected from the Hogsback Inn
Pros:

Location was lovely as were the staff

Cons:

Room was really tired, felt dirty. No bedside tables in the double room. Cupboard doors weren’t hanging correctly. Kitchen-fridge was very poor and door didn't close properly on it. Shower taps were broken on the one side. Lights weren’t working in kitchen and living area. Basically the whole “room” needs gutting and redoing

Never return to The Historic Hogsback Inn.

The location

Cons:

The Arum family unit is in a bad state and should be closed/condemned. It had black mould over the entire ceiling in the passage, and main bedroom. The lounge area also had black mould on the archway. No extra blankets nor heaters. The one electric blanket only worked on the top part of it.
The trapdoor in the passage way in Suite 1 was left open the entire night and caused the room to be freezing cold. No heaters, but a fire place that did not draw well hence filling the entire room with smoke. The last morning there there was no water in the hot water system. The carpets are extremely dirty, and the walls behind the curtains are mouldy and damp.
Our first night there we had supper in the restaurant and waited 2 hours for our food even although there were only 2 small tables before us., and we had a child with us who needed to eat.
On checking out I spoke to the receptionist about the above issues and all she said was that she would tell the manager. As far as we are concerned the hotel should be closed down until the mould issue and dampness is sorted out.

Beautiful location
Pros:

The daily appearance of the endangered Cape Parrot, high up in the trees on the property! Lovely tranquil gardens and friendly locals.

The location is stunning..the patina and quaintness of the hotel was unbelievably special.
Pros:

We just loved Ye old English Ambience...with the new renovations please dont deviate from this quaint, delightful old fashioned statement...of Old world charm. Country Shabby Chic. Country fare and Pub..awesome!

Cons:

We did not have the shower in the room..but the staff very kindly allowed us to us one 2 doors away in another room.

Something special to do & we are happy to have visited. The above are comments not complaints.
Pros:

Very special place and very special to experience the history of such an old establishment. Beautiful surroundings and magnificent gardens. The building is old, which is what attracted us to stay there.

Cons:

The building is old and very tired. Some effort could definitely be put into making it nicer - like the passage ceiling - even just being painted would make a huge difference. Room was clean but bathroom was mouldy and the door did not close. None of this really worried us but it wasnt cheap, as we selected a superior room, so was expecting a little more. There was no view at all from our room and it was super hot without a fan of any nature. Thankfully we had one in the car and used our own.

Pros:

Nothing.

Cons:

I would like to raise a complaint regarding our recent booking. Although we were charged for access, we were unable to enter the building, as there was no one available to open the door for us. While the payment was made later than expected on my side, access should not have been approved or charged if entry could not be facilitated. This situation was frustrating and should not have been allowed to occur.

I therefore request a full refund, as the service paid for was not provided.
