Lovely hotel but it just didn't live up to the expectation.
Pros:

This is a really tough review to write - should I have given it 5 stars, maybe but there are just a few things that it's missing.
The hotel is getting tired. I know that's the Barbados charm but it does need some money spending on it. I can understand the owners are probably going to see how the opening of the new Royalton next door affects them but they need to lift their game a little to keep people coming back.
The hotel's entrance is lovely - it gives you a feeling of luxury and welcoming and makes you glad you chose Mango Bay. The rooms however are a different story. Ours was tired, the cupboards didn't close properly, the bathroom was quite damp and it generally needed some TLC. We stayed from a Wednesday for 6 nights. We were in the block overlooking 1st street and when we arrived the couple in the room next door to us asked us if we had ear plugs. We looked quizzically at them and then they explained that 1st street gets quite lively Fri/Sat/Sun nights - and oh does it. Some nights we felt as though the bar goers were in our room :)
We managed to acquire some melatonin from Massy supermarket which helped with the sleeping.
The hotel pool is a nice change from the sea - and maintains the sunshine right until sunset. The beach is lovely and couldn't be easier to get to from the hotel as it's literally in front. Beach and pool loungers are reserved early by people so beware - if you're one of those that likes to chill out and not worry about getting a lounger early you're going to be upset by the towel laying crowd. I don't know why people do it - it's sad really. There were even couples reserving beds at the pool and the beach and alternating their day between the two! Hotel maybe needs to introduce a policy to curb that behavior.
We found the food perfectly adequate. Very little variety though if it was a buffet but the occasional a la carte meals were fine. There was one evening that the buffet was 'Mexican' style - which we were quite excited about as we love Mexican food - but it turned out to be the same salad and meat offerings as all of the other buffets we'd eaten at the hotel with the addition of flavoured rice (the Mexican twist).
Drinks were prepared with great attention to detail - the bar staff actually knew how to mix cocktails rather than pouring it from a pre-mix bottle.
The watersports were all free, ranging from waterskiing to kayaking, to small catamarans. The watersports staff however seemed very unenthralled with their jobs and quite often aloof in their interactions with us.
The hotel did lay on entertainment every evening which was nice and the restaurant and bar staff worked really hard to cater for the guests needs.
A nice touch to the hotel was a free 2 hour catamaran trip up the coast.

Maybe the last time at Mango Bay
Pros:

We have stayed many times at Mango Bay, but this may be our last visit. This is not the fault of Mango Bay Hotel, but exterior factors.

First the beach has altered. When we first went to Mango Bay, you descended steps to the beach, but because of tides and storms, the beach is now level with the board walk. This means the beach is smaller and you have a very steep descent into the sea and some people may struggle getting out of the sea back onto the sand. Secondly, the new Royalton hotel being built next door. This new hotel is massive. Think of the big hotels you find on the Spanish Costas and then double it. This small bay is already becoming crowded, so where are they going to put all the sun beds? It is a large brutalist building completely out of character with Mango Bay Hotel and the neighbouring Sandpiper.

The rooms at Mango Bay are still dated but some have been given a “facelift”. My attitude is, I do not come on holiday to live in my room! Providing the beds are comfortable and they are, and the bathroom has plenty of hot water and it does, and the house keeping is good and it is, then that’s OK for me. My only criticism of the room is that it needs more power points rather than an extension inside the wardrobe.

The dining is good, but could have been better. This criticism is based on what seemed to be a staff problem in the kitchen on some nights, so service was sometimes slow and haphazard with some a la carte nights becoming buffet nights. But the quality of the food is good.

The highlight of the hotel is its staff. They are always very helpful, very friendly, always wanting to share a joke. They want you to enjoy your holiday.

As I said, maybe our last time here. But we are considering one of the other hotels in the Mango Bay group. If the other Mango Bay group hotels run on the same ethos, I’m sure we will have a great time.

Great location great staff but a tired hotel
Pros:

Great location Holetown is the place to be with nice shopping centre across the road and a choice of shops restaurants and bars. The hotel was straight onto a lovely beach with snorkelling. Great staff and great service. Nightly entertainment was very good and nice to be able to have a dance. Great hobby room with pool table great beach activities plenty of beds and towels etc.

Cons:

The hotel is basically tired and needs a refurb e.g every sun longer mattress is grubby and stained as were every seat in the bar and restaurant towels in rooms tatty paintwork in rooms tatty and some of the electrics in rooms look very suspect e.g running a power supply of a light switch to power a four socket extention.
Be aware of rooms near the front of the hotel which back onto bars in the adjoining steers the noise is horrendous and went on until 3 am one morning,

Location good but hotel very tired - rooms need a major update m. Disappointing to say the least
Pros:

Here is my honest review, which has been hard to write:
Location is good and beach is fine, but hotel is very tired - mould on ceiling in bathroom, bathroom mirrors need replacing, plug sockets need replacing, furniture has seen better days, beds need updating.
Was left many evenings without clean towels (no towels were provided). Many requests for towels which should be automatically provided each day.
Brochure said hotel had a spa, but this was closed months ago.
Staffing problems are major, and the hotel kept changing a-La-Cart menu to buffet, which was regularly below standard. When you pay for a-La-carte, you expect to be waited on. Several times breakfast, lunch & dinner were delayed due to them “not being ready”, meaning a half hour wait beyond your dedicated time slot.
Some mornings, beach staff were late and did not put out sun beds, so guests had to put their own out. A lot of sun beds are falling apart and need replacing - same with the parasols. The beach towels are faded and tatty.
Hotel needs a complete renovation - everything is done on a tight budget and it is very noticeable. This should be a 3* hotel and the price should reflect that - paying over £10k, I would expect a higher standard. Was extremely disappointed and would definitely not visit again.

Brilliant stay ! Lovely staff and hotel
Pros:

We have stayed in 3 hotels this time visiting Barbados , and I can honestly say that Mango Bay was the best , the staff are amazing, the food is excellent and the location is perfect, we had an issue with the air con in our booked standard room , we were switched rooms and upgraded to a deluxe pool view room, nothing was too much trouble, lovely room , recommend picking room 204 , it was quiet, near the lift , spacious and great view.
Special mentions to the pool staff , esp Rayden, he was so lovely he even came to say bye and hug us as we left, lovely lovely fella, Damien , he’s the dancer, he’s nuts, so entertaining around the pool serving drinks, and Sabrina in the restaurant, the young receptionist with the hair to one side, VERY bubbly and happy. What a lovely hotel , we hope to return next year !

Mango bay , 1st class
Pros:

9 of us stayed at the the mango bay hotel for 9 nights in February and had a amazing time. The hotel is almost hidden away in holetown which was great as location was perfect. The staff were all brilliant and friendly, too many to name but Rayden and Damien and Brittany in the bar were great and Karon and Donell the waitresses were lovely . Definitely would recommend mango bay for couples or families.

Everything we could ask for
Pros:

This was our 3rd stay at Mango Bay, as per previous stays we were not disappointed. The staff are friendly and accommodating, facilities are clean and easily accessible and the beach is a slice of heaven.

Whilst the decor is somewhat dated it does not detract from the enjoyment of the stay. The rooms are a good size and beds are spacious and comfortable. Amenities such as iron and hairdryer are provided.

The food has always been well cooked and presented, we had no issue in finding something for our son to eat which can be a challenge. Booking time slots is a streamlined process and saves unnecessary waiting.

Safe to say we will remain repeat visitors and are returning in April 26.

Good with room for improvement
Pros:

The location is lovely but it just doesn’t feel very all inclusive the restaurant is set menu and portion size for lunch and dinner some of the service is a little lacklustre most of the staff are great but some of them just seem a little rude and the place could use a little renovation I’m not saying the place isn’t lovely there are just a couple of small things that just don’t match up to the expectations set by the term alll inclusive

A lovely relaxing stay.
Pros:

The Mango Bay is a small but perfectly formed four star hotel with attentive friendly staff, adjacent beach, nice rooms most with sea view making for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Unfortunately, a huge hotel will be completed soon next door and that may spoil things. There are a few interesting trips on barbados but mostly sun worshipping and watersports are the order of the day.

I would look at other options before booking again.
Pros:

The location was great, however, there is a construction going on next door which is extremely loud and I was not told about this prior to traveling. It woke me up each morning and I wouldn't be happy if I had a sleeping baby.

Cons:

The staff were horrendous. I'd say there were maybe 3 staff members that were kind but I have never visited a place before with such miserable staff. I appreciate that not everyone loves their job but a little eye contact or a slight smile would suffice. I also hated that I contacted the property 4 times prior to traveling within 12 months of arriving and nobody ever replied. I also contacted booking.com and they did not respond. Luckily I had someone I knew travel there prior to my arrival to make the arrangements I needed otherwise I would have been screwed.

Disappointed
Pros:

Spent 9 nights at Mango Bay all-inclusive hotel at well over £300 a night. Food was average at best, but uninspired and uninspiring. Sometimes it was poor - especially desserts and pastries. Buffets lacked variety with a token salad bar. Service was haphazard - sometimes good, sometimes absent. Facilities OK - not 4 or 5 star - but there's no seafront free from motor boats and jetskis. Overall, not good value for money.
