Breakfast was awesome buffet! Our room was upgraded we heard from very nice lady at desk and had a suite!! She said room was changed had some repair work in original room
Absolutely nothing
The staff were friendly and very helpful, the room was small but very nicely appointed
I was welcomed in and informed that I had been upgraded to a suite for my overnight stay! The hotel is “out of date” - which is exactly what I loved about it. It’s a cozy landing spot in downtown Anchorage, with a friendly and caring staff. The hotel itself has a lot of personality - it was decorated for Halloween! There were historical photos of the building in the staircase that I enjoyed looking at. One of the reasons I chose to stay here was because of its history, surviving the Good Friday earthquake in 1964.
The breakfast buffet left a bit to be desired, but I’ll take an offering over nothing at all. Just even having coffee and some potatoes to kick off my day exploring the Anchorage area was a very welcome amenity.
I only stayed at the Historic Anchorage Hotel one night after a longer trip elsewhere in Alaska. I hope to stay here again on my next visit to Anchorage.
Greatly location , historical hotel was nice , breakfast in morning was very good with a variety of options
Very disappointed in the condition of the hotel. No air conditioning, and our room was on the outside corner which had direct sunlight during the day. The heater was needed at night, but the radiators dis not work. The sheetrock was poorly finished with large seams on the ceiling that looked terrible. The carpet was not well cleaned, and dust had built up on edges around the room. Electrical outlets on the walls were old and did not hold phone chargers. Do not recommend.
Lovely rooms
Clean
We stayed a few nights in the Historic Anchorage Hotel. Overall, a good stay.
How were the staff? 10 out of 10 - All the staff were friendly and polite.
How clean was the hotel? 7 out of 10 - The common areas of the hotel were very clean. Bed linen and towels were spotless. Dust on the carpets in our room behind the chest of drawers. Generally okay.
How were the facilities? 8 out of 10 - Room was very comfortable with TV, plenty of hot water, coffee making, hairdryer, etc. No A/C - we regulated the room temperature by opening a window and using a supplied fan. For one of the oldest hotels in Alaska, the facilities were pretty good. The seating areas on the ground floor are great. The hotel bar area is lovely but no longer operates as a bar - you need to go out if you want to buy a beer etc. The hotel will store your bags on check-out which is useful if you have a late flight.
How did you sleep? 6 out of 10 - The hotel is in the middle of downtown which makes it super convenient for walking to restaurants etc. However, Anchorage has a sizeable population of people sleeping on the streets. Drunken behaviour (shouting) is common throughout the night. If you sleep with the room window open, you are probably going to get woken up by noise on the street below. Saying that, the beds and pillows are super comfortable.
How was breakfast? 7 out of 10 - Breakfast is free. It is a simple buffet with a mix of hot (eggs, sausage, pancakes, etc) and cold (yoghurt, cereal etc). Not a huge selection but adequate to start your day. Hotel rates are expensive in Anchorage compared to the lower 48 - So a free breakfast is definitely a bonus.
Would you stay at this hotel again? Yes - Now that we understand the street noise at night, we would probably ask for a room facing the back of the hotel if we book again. A little on the expensive side, but a great location for getting to the railway station and all the downtown attractions.
A quaint historic hotel in the heart of Anchorage. The room was large, comfortable and full of antique touches giving it a B&B feel. It is close to shopping and restaurants.
Convenient
Ladies at the front desk were knowledgeable, fun and friendly! Location perfect, rooms comfortable and clean!
Bathroom is on the small size, but clean
This is really a very old historic hotel in a downtown location, easy walking distance to restaurants, shopping and the train station. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are old, very small and very tired. We defintely needed the fan. It is very basic and fine for one night (maybe not two). Breakfast was ok. As our intro to Alaska, it was interesting but we probably would have been more comfortable in one of the big hotels.
Heritage feel
Nothing
Awesome facility. Very, very clean. Room was awesome. Staff friendly. Breakfast was great as well.
It is a historic property so the inside is a little dated but in a very convenient location. The beds are very firm and nice.
Cozy historic hotel that shows its age. Clean and simple. Located downtown and very convenient to everything.
Great location
