My stay here was too short!! Such an exceptional resort with exceptional people deserves a longer stay than 2 nights!!

I loved everything about the property! Thank you for my lovely birthday present and our anniversary gift with such a wonderful note left by the GM. Every single person we interacted with at the lodge is just exceptional! They are so friendly and kind and professional and caring! Always smiling and willing to talk to us about how lives and share stories about theirs! The food was exceptional! The dinner buffets are nothing like I’ve ever seen anywhere in the world I have travelled to! Thank you thank you to all at Bakubung!

Disappointing at the Price!

Overall my wife and I enjoyed the weekend, but I must say I was expecting a more luxurious and personal experience, but it was little better than a timeshare resort churning guests through a machine.

We went to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday, I messaged ahead to let the hotel know, and ask if there was anything they could do to enhance the experience for her, they acknowledged my message, but nothing at all was done about her birthday, not even a "happy birthday" when we checked in - Very disappointing.

Whilst game viewing is always something special, the guides on the game vehicles barely interacted with the guests, and the etiquette on a sighting was not existent, with around 20 vehicles converging on a sighting at the same time, driving in front of tourist trying to take photos, and jostling for position like a Nigerian traffic jam - Very poor impression to give international guests.

A good selection of food was presented for meals, but the quality left a lot to be desired; babotie that tasted more like bolognaise, ox tail that need another 1 or 2 hours of cooking and flavourless milk tart. The many foreign tourists at the resort must of had a very poor impression of South African cuisine.

Cons:

Everything was great, however I would consider giving guest the option to have the potential to opt for an adult only game drives. I appreciate the challenges with young children on the game drives however with 6-10 vehicles on each drive it would be good to have the option

Great first stay in Pilanesburg and Bakubung Lodge was exactly what we needed !
Pros:

Great location, good value for money for the space, game drives and half board option. Lovely views out to the park and elephants right by the lodge. Gym was functional and quiet. Space to run around the property. Food was plentiful and varied. The bbq night was also a great addition and not an added cost like most places. We did all the game drives and they were great !

Good Overall, but There Is Room for Improvement

Game drives were exceptional

Cons:

Unfortunately, this was not the best experience due to an incident involving some of the staff. We were accidentally locked out of our room and it took quite a while to get assistance because the reception desk was unattended and the staff on duty were asleep. My main concern is that if there had been a genuine emergency, the lack of an immediate response could have had serious consequences.

That said, I do appreciate that the staff involved acknowledged the incident and offered a sincere apology, which I accepted. I hope the hotel reviews its overnight reception procedures to ensure guests can access assistance promptly at all times.

Cons:

No provision of warm water to wash hands for people who eat pap with their hands at the bush dinner .
