Have stayed many times at this hotel and have always had excellent things to say as our stays have been great. This time however, I felt that the room was well below par. I was told at check-in that as I was a "Plaza Member" I had been upgraded. Our room was on the top level which felt as though we were in the attic. Our room was well below the standard of other rooms we had stayed in on previous trips. It was very dated, small and the beds well used and therefore uncomfortable and uneven / lopsided. The kettle had nowhere to plug it in - it had to be used next to the bed or placed on the floor. We have never had this problem before in rooms were had stayed in previously. I requested a walk in shower and this was provided but the overall size of the bathroom was small. As with most hotels there is never enough room to dry towels. They always want you to hang up and re-use but there is never enough space to hang towels up.
Overall this didn't feel like an upgrade and felt far below any room we had stayed at previously. Hotel is obviously in a great location - right near train station and a short walk to main centre of Helsinki and Kampii. I will not stay at this hotel again.
The bed. Very uncomfortable, the kettle - nowhere to use safely or easily.

Breakfast was good, location very good close, to Central Station. Public spaces impressive. Reception good and staff also well trained.
Rooms are tired, like many Baltic/Eastern European hotels the sinks don`t have plugs so take a travel plug. Shower handle leaked badly so got it changed, still leaked but they did change it. Lighting system stupid, over engineered difficult to understand. View into central courtyard poor to appalling. However we didn’t spend long in the room. Lifts good never had to wait long. Some dodgy clientele. Quite hard to get a late drink bar closes early, late bar depends on receptionist.

Location, breakfast.
Dirty old pillos, old worn out mattresses infused with sweat stink and stains of unknown origin in all shades of yellow. No protective matress cover, direct linins on top, what a nasty experience. Poorly cleaned room and bathroom with hair in the bed and in the bathtub, how is this 4 star hotel? Evening receptionist was as ignorant as I ever seen receptionist to be, acting like he does this 5 times a day. Second room was just as dirty. I care for 2 things, decent customer service and relatively clean room. This hotel failed in both accept the senior reception lady upon arrival.
The location is great, bed super comfortable and breakfast has a healthy and varied choice. We had a short city break and this was a great stay.
