Pros:

Nice place with beautiful grounds . Very quiet nights sleep enjoyed . Lovely area of the peak district. Evening meal and breakfast were both very nice and well served by the many staff about. All the staff were active and efficient ,special mention for Esme who was attentive and entertaining. Would go again.

Faultless
Pros:

Took solo trip as I felt like I deserved a bit of a getaway from every day life. From the moment I walked in I was greeted to a lovely warm welcome from when I walked up to the check in desk. The receptionist, I couldn’t fault her. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Everything was ran perfectly and she even persuaded me to try the twilight spa session. I have never felt so relaxed in my life, exactly what I needed from a tough week at work. Would certainly recommend whether you’re doing a solo trip like me or with a group. Will certainly be returning

Very disappointing
Pros:

We booked a night with dinner, bed and breakfast, to surprise friends of ours who were there on a group tour. Initial impressions were good. Looks stunning from outside and lobby and public areas beautiful. The reality was very different. Accessibility was challenging due to a maze of shabby hallways littered with steps and stairs. The room was very shabby, desperately in need of refurbishing and festooned with cobwebs. The only saving grace were the linens and towels and comfortable beds. The food was pretty good and good portion size. We decided against dessert as we were full after the main course, and asked for the bill. I queried the bill with the waitress. The package we booked was dinner, bed and breakfast, and we did see from the email that in fact the dinner part was actually a £30pp allowance. Our quick scan of the email meant that we missed the significance of their careful wording…” £30pp food dinner allowance”. We had also ordered a bottle of wine. The amount to pay was greater than we had roughly calculated bearing in mind the £60 allowance. The waitress explained that the allowance applied only to the food part of dinner and we should have been informed of that when we were shown to our seats by the manager. In other words it’s a win win for the hotel all round. If you aren’t greedy they make a profit on your unused paid up front allowance and if you enjoy a starter and dessert you are spending more! I spoke to the manager, who was polite but intransigent as he read out the wording in the email. He did not sympathise, apologise that the restaurant manager had not made the situation clear or admit that it was misleading. The booking information should actually state quite clearly that in this case “dinner” has a very limited meaning and note the exclusions specifically. We felt conned to be honest.
Listening to other people we realise that many people were unhappy with their rooms. Would we recommend Shrigley Hall or stay there again? Definitely not. Our advice would be to go over hotel offers and bookings with a fine toothcomb. We learned that one the hard way

Outstanding
Pros:

We were lucky enough to be invited to a wedding at the Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa, we had a fantastic time & the venue itself was picture perfect, from the moment we arrived the staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive, the room we stayed in was immaculate, had everything we needed & incredible views from the window, I cannot fault anything about our stay at Shrigley Hall & we will definitely be staying there again.

Lovely family stay
Pros:

We had a lovely stay at Shrigley Hall Hotel at the end of July on their family dinner bed and breakfast summer deal. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The room we had was a little tatty (rusty bath panel, few lived in marks on the wall etc) but nothing major, only downside was how warm it was and the windows were quite small, there was however a fan provided (for these random heatwaves we keep having!)
The dining area and staff were fabulous. We ate evening meal in the pink room and had breakfast in the wisteria tree room - stunning.
The food options for both adults and kids were fab, we all thoroughly enjoyed every course. Breakfast has a great selection of hot and cold items all self serve with lovely coffee.
All in all a fab stay and would definitely return if our travels took us that way again.

Extremely Poor Hotel
Pros:

Absolutely awful experience!
We arrived for an anniversary break, but did not unpack our bags , due to the fact that this hotel is very run down. We should have read the reviews!
We were given a room key and directed to the room , upstairs and down many shabby corridors. This really is a poor business. Communal areas are littered with cigarette bits and dirty glasses. There is clearly no attention to the cleanliness of general areas. When I asked to speak to duty manager to explain why we would not stay, he seemed as if he was used to this reaction. The owners need to sort things out-

The dining menu was less than might be expected for a four star hotel

Restful stay in a pretty setting in the Peak District
Pros:

We had a gorgeous deluxe room with a view, I would recommend this option, which felt a bit like Downton Abbey! I fear many rooms are not this nice, we were lucky to get an upgrade. Breakfast was good. Friendly service.

Cons:

We were a bit disappointed with the food in the restaurant, although it was quite good value for money. We wanted to walk round the grounds / woods but it seemed impossible to do this without crossing the golf course, which is strictly forbidden - and dangerous!

Peacocks and Proseccos!
Pros:

We had a lovely time at Shrigley Hall. We stayed two nights and made the most of both the spa and restaurant. The spa facilities are lovely - the hot outdoor pool was fantastic, we did benefit from some cracking weather! The treatments were great. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was excellent and priced well. We were served by some great staff too. Lovely atmosphere and nothing too much trouble.
The grounds around Shrigley are lovely, cracking views and regular visits from the resident peacocks a highlight! We’d recommend it to others and would happily visit again.

Chilled Sundays at Shrigley hall
Pros:

Loved the experience and facilities were fantastic! Only thing I could say was that yous had ran out of quite a lot of drinks at the bar ( spa area) even bottled water, there was a wedding on upstairs at the same time but thought should of been a little more choice to choose from. Other than that I will definitely be cumming back and maybe sample the food next time 😃

Absolutely awful
Pros:

Free car parking. Large bathroom

Cons:

Hotel in very poor condition, damaged walls and woodwork. Room was a Delux Room, on 3rd floor {loft extension}. No lift to 3rd floor as out of order had to walk numerous stairs from 1st floor. the window was a skylight, and in order to shut it had to stand on a chair. Patches of threadbare carpet, no wardrobe, just an 18 inch rail, no drawers, hair dryer and iron stored on floor. Duvet too small for the bed. Walls and woodwork marked and damaged. Shower too hot as no cold water from shower, toilet needed multiple flushes to be effective. The whole place is run down and in need of a major refurbishment. I would not recommend Shrigley Hall to anyone. I feel completely ripped of, as the room was not cheap and certainly not DeLux, more very basic. The breakfast was lukewarm. Evening meal in the restaurant was OK, but the open annex had a function , male dominated, which was very loud with the people there shouting and using foul language, our waitress indicated this type of function is a regular event. Not what one would expect when dinning in a hotel restaurant
