Quirky Brand
Pros:

Quirky Malmaison did not let us down with an early check-in, interesting rooms and a decent breakfast next morning.

Would have preferred a rain-shower in such a hotel rather than bath over shower but that is just personal preference.

Was on top floor at side of hotel and not a bit of sound from inside or outside throughout the night.

A minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly and about 20 minutes from Victoria.

Suite 507 - needs improvement
Pros:

We recently stayed at Malmaison Manchester and overall had a mixed experience.

The location is excellent – really central and ideal for getting around Manchester. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, which definitely made a positive first impression.

We booked a suite which was luckily on offer through Hotels.com for £87. Had we booked directly with the hotel it would have been around £170, and in all honesty that would have been far too much for the quality of the room.

The suite itself was very spacious, with a separate lounge area and bedroom. It had a bath with a separate shower, a TV in both the lounge and bedroom (with the option to connect your phone for Netflix, YouTube etc.), bathrobes, kettle, ironing facilities, tea and coffee, and a chargeable minibar. All of these extras do make the room feel that little bit more special.

However, the stay was hugely let down by cleanliness and the overall condition of the décor, which felt quite worn in places. There were marks and stains in multiple areas of the suite. The bathroom in particular felt grubby around the floor area, with visible staining and signs of water damage. I wasn’t actively looking for faults, but unfortunately they were noticeable.

I’ve attached photos showing two blood stains, a questionable stain on the bedroom chair, and glassware left in the room that was clearly not clean enough to use. That level of hygiene simply isn’t acceptable.

We’re grateful for the room at the price we paid, but had we paid full price, I would have made a formal complaint rather than simply leaving this as a heads-up for future guests.

Great Experience and superb treatments and lunch
Pros:

Relaxing atmosphere, I went with my sister and we had the All About Me spa package, it included use of the spa, 2.5 hrs of treatments and lunch. Georgia did my treatments she was amazing I can honestly say it’s probably one of the best massages and facials I have ever had. My skin feels great and I feel so relaxed. Thank you Georgia x

Quirky with a wonderful welcome.
Pros:

The best welcome I've had in a hotel. The lady on reception was warm, genuine and friendly. She explained everything really well. We had booked an upgrade so she sorted that for us.
The room was quiet but we didn't like that it had an adjoining door. There was loads of room and its was well laid out. Very modern and smart but very dark room. I did end up doing my make up in the bathroom which was very well lit.
Bathrobes and slippers were available but we didn't use them.
Not much of a view over the bins downstairs but we did nt spent time looking out of the window!!
The corridors looked liked being at the cinema but I did like the quirky Manchester related artwork.
Breakfast was brilliant, food was slow but delicious. So much choice of breakfast items. Beautifully cooked and quality produce.

Never purchase or use a gift voucher here!
Pros:

First off nothing to do with the hotel itself but it was a genuine pain trying to make a booking using a gift voucher some friends bought me.

The voucher was for a Sunday night stay but wanted to book and pay for an additional night ourselves which seemed to cause a lot of confusion in the hotel.

Upon arrival it took a few mins before they could confirm that we could stay in the same room for two nights as one room was booked with a voucher and the other paid in full.

A £50 payment was then taken from my card and I was told I could bill all food or drink to the room and settle the bill on checkout.

On the Sunday night had a lovely meal and wait staff were friendly but bar service was very slow which was a running theme throughout our stay. When we said to put the meal and drinks on the room though there was a slightly awkward exchange as the wait staff informed us that we had "no credit" on our room so wel all had to make a trip to reception to get it cleared up.

On the second day we headed out for a bit and upon our return our keycard didn't work to get to the room and once that was sorted it turned out our room hadn't been cleaned, both issues were claimed to be due to the confusion caused by using a voucher to book for one of the nights. We were however granted some bar vouchers as way of apology.

Again meal in the restaurant on second night was fantastic and wait staff were great but bar staff were very slow and borderline neglectful to customers waiting at the bar.

The last issue with the voucher happened upon checkout as part of the voucher was £50 off the food bill and that hasn't been applied and I had already been charged the full amount on my card seemingly before I checked out. The reception staff didn't seem to know what to do with this issue (not their fault) and have forwarded my details to the manager for investigation.

Also fair warning a £21.50 service charge was added to my bill with no warning and while the wait staff were nice we were often left waiting a long time for our drinks e.g. on the first night we ordered food and drinks together and drinks still hadn't arrived until after we had finished our starters and only after we reminded a member of the wait staff that we hadn't received them.

While the hotel itself is nice and some of the staff were friendly and helpful I don't feel this hotel warrants it's 4 star rating based on its overall service.

Staff were friendly and quick to solve problems but ultimately those problems shouldn't be happening to begin with.

Be aware of scam when visit
Pros:

Be aware! The hotel was wonderful and I stepped outside for a breath of fresh Manchester air. A nice outdoor space "Oh, madam you dropped something" - I heard a voice behind me. It's was not a helpful man , it was a private hire agent tasked to give out 180 GBP penalty notice for littering. So be aware of this when visiting

Not the average 4 star hotel 😌
Pros:

Too cold in corridors. My first room heating didn’t work, asked to fix, unsuccessful, had to move rooms very late in the evening. Staff frantic. Really bad cocktails at the bar. Terrible breakfast, left hungry. Disgusting coffee from machine. I didn’t have any sugar or sweetener in the room to have nespresso at least. The only good thing about it is that it’s 4 min from the train station. This is a 3 star standard.

Very pleasant stay – would happily return
Pros:

We stayed at Malmaison Manchester for one night and had a very enjoyable experience overall. The location is excellent, right next to Piccadilly station, which made arriving and getting around the city incredibly easy. Despite being so central, the hotel itself felt calm and comfortable, and everything we wanted to see, eat, and do was within easy walking distance.

The hotel has a lovely atmosphere with stylish décor throughout, and our room was a great size — well laid out, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for a short stay. The bed was particularly comfortable, and the room felt cosy yet modern.

We also enjoyed the bar and bistro, which had a nice buzz and were perfect for a relaxed drink and bite to eat without having to venture back out. Staff interactions were pleasant and professional, and check-in and check-out were smooth.

Overall, a really comfortable and convenient stay in Manchester. We would definitely consider staying here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a well-located hotel with character and comfort.

A relaxing spa morning, but room for improvement
Pros:

I was gifted the Little Piece of Heaven spa package for my birthday, and all in all, my spa morning was very relaxing.
The main spa area has lovely deco, the loungers are comfortable and it all smells nice and clean.
My shoulder and back massage was brilliant, and the therapist was very kind and attentive.

However, I was surprised by how tiny the spa is, considering it's advertised as 'full spa facilities'. There isn't even a jacuzzi, pool or steam room, all that's on offer are two saunas and one relaxation room.
The most disappointing part of my experience was that I wasn't able to use the relaxation room due to the heating being broken, resulting in it being absolutely freezing in there. So instead I spent an hour on the loungers next to the lobby - which was fine, but wasn't as relaxing as I'd hoped due to it being right next to the reception desk and having to listen to staff chatting and people being checked in.

The changing rooms were nice and clean, but they were absolutely tiny with only one shower and toilet available - which I imagine would be an issue on busier days.

After my treatment, I had lunch in the hotel's Chez Mal restaurant, which was fantastic and couldn't be faulted.

I'd return only for the specific treatments that are on offer, but if I wanted a spa day that had proper facilities, I'd go elsewhere to get better value for money.

Excellent for the price. Staff are ace. From reception to service. Nothing to add.
Pros:

11/10. Room was spot on, and very well appointed for the price. Restaurant was excellent. Ordered the New York Strip, recommended by the waiter Callum, and it was one of the best steaks I have had in a while. Callum's advice on dishes and sides was perfect. Well recommended. Couldn't find anything to correct from this experience. Again, 11/10.
