Room was excellent
Perfect location
Hotel is in a great location and our room was nice.
Dirty towel from previous guests was left hanging on the back of the bathroom door.
We like taking in a show at the Opera House
Paying £6 each for a swim
The location
Very dated, old fashioned, not accessible at all for older people
Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have had.
The problems started almost immediately. Before we had even properly checked in, we were asked whether we had arrived with one car or two, and then charged £10 for parking for two nights.
The dinner was even more disappointing. Although food was included in our booking, we still had to pay extra towards the dinner. The quality of the food was extremely poor. I ordered a burger and it was honestly the worst burger I can remember having – completely overcooked and served in a very dry bun. The chips tasted as though they were left over from the previous day and reheated.
My wife and one of our two guests had fish and chips, and neither of them was impressed with their meal either. We were so disappointed with the dinner that we did not even bother going to the restaurant on our second evening.
The spa was another major disappointment and easily the worst hotel spa I have experienced so far. For somewhere calling itself a “Hotel & Spa”, I expected a considerably better standard.
Sadly, after this experience I would avoid this hotel in the future. I am particularly disappointed because it is so easy to book through Booking.com, and I expected a much better experience based on how the hotel is presented.
Breakfast excellent
Extremely dated, stunk of bleach everywhere and the rooms are absolutely disgusting. We couldn’t sleep due to the smell of bleach.
The hotel shouldn’t be rated more than 2* !!!!!
The staff, the original features. The food. Excellent location. Chargeable parking on site.
Not getting a lower level floor as requested on Bookings.com. Not having a functioning window, no fresh air in the room at all!
Lovely hotel, room was clean bedding clean, staff very friendly, and was close to amenities
No complaints
Unfortunately, there was very little that I could genuinely say I enjoyed about this stay.

The public areas were grand and attractive but the rooms were tired
The standard double was small and frosted window the room was strangely shaped and barely big enough for the furniture - wardrobe door banged into bathroom door
The interior is beautiful, but sad it didn’t reflect on the bedroom
Location was good. The communal lounges are comfy
The location was perfect in the centre of Buxton and easy access to the Peak District. Nice lawn out front. Dog friendly which suited us.
Very dated and tired in places, breakfast was ok. It average. Would have like to see fresh fruit. Bedroom was very tired and bathroom dared and stained. The house cleaning staff did not make up our room for our entire stay (3 nights). Parking on site did cause us an issue on our first night.
Ideally situated. Lovely room and nice breakfast
Fantastic period building but modern facilities.
More three pin sockets
Location the beautiful Billding
All food and drink that we consumed was good, location good very central.
The room are a little tired on could do with some serious updating
