Fantastic pool and pleasant grounds/nooks
Friendly staff in many areas
Good variety at breakfast (when stocked)
Great for events/weddings and golf
Cons:
Hard/uncomfortable beds and worn mattresses

Outdated rooms (no fridge, old TVs), thin walls

Categories

Cleanliness
5.5
Multiple mentions of poor room cleanliness: cobwebs on ceilings/curtains, visible wear and splits in lounge fabrics and 'poor standard of cleanliness' reported by guests, so below average.
Service
9
Staff are frequently described as friendly and pleasant in bars/restaurants and many guests praise helpfulness; however there are repeated comments about understaffing, slow service at bar and breakfast and a few curt reception interactions. Overall the staff are strong but operational understaffing impacted service speed.
Location
9.8
Consistently praised: beautiful building, magnificent gardens/grounds, outstanding setting for weddings and excellent golf course — location is a clear highlight.
Room Quality
5.2
Several complaints about outdated rooms: very hard/uncomfortable beds, thin walls, old TVs, no fridge in rooms and at least one child bed with springs protruding — room comfort and furnishings are weak points.
Amenities
9.4
Pool and grounds scored highly (fantastic pool, lovely nooks, good facilities and free guest pool access windows). Some crowding of the pool in afternoons noted, but overall amenities are a strong positive.
Value for Money
7.7
Standard quality for this hotel tier
Food and Beverage
6.5
Breakfast receives mixed feedback: generally good variety and coffee praised, but issues noted with oily/overcooked eggs, items running out and slow refill/queueing; bar service also slowed by understaffing.
Overall Experience
8.5
Many guests report a marvellous time, return intentions and praise for events/weddings and the setting. Negatives around room comfort, cleanliness and staffing slowed parts of the stay, but overall stays are positive and memorable.

Pros:

The drive to the hotel everything outside the hotel.

Cons:

I booked for my nephew and his family who visited from the US. I chose Slaley over Beaumont Hotel and Travelodge at Hexham so they experience authentic stay. I went with them to see the bedroom as I was planning to book a room for me and my husband on our anniversary. It was met with a total disappointment. I was so upset and embarrassed that I felt like crying when I saw the room.
I requested for a quiet room with a good view and they got the only room on the 3rd floor where there was a scaffolding erected so this was what you saw as soon as you open your window in the morning. The fridge was not working, sofa bed was no so comfortable and the room next to the bedroom felt empty. My nephew was very polite saying it was adequate. I am not sure if there are other better rooms but I would not take the chance again. Can you forward this feedback to Slaley Hall?
