This was the 2nd time we stayed thought it might of improved. No, not the case. Rooms are tidy, but the outside needs a good tidy up and many renovations to need to be done on the inside. When you can see mould on the ceiling and numerous buckets in the corridor due to leaks is not a good look. The outdoor spa and pool looked dirty and is needing some TLC.
Our stay was like a scene out of Faulty Towers. After a 10hr drive we were hungry and tired so didn’t need much but service was poor and waited 30mins for a drink when nobody in restaurant. To room and bed were fine but customer service if eating/drinking is appalling. Suggest as long as you just need a bed be okay.
This is an historic convent converted into a modern luxury hotel.
It was everything you would expect with a modern chain such as Mecure.
The room was very comfortable. Not huge. Nicely appointed. Top quality linen in bed and bathroom. Air conditioned and everything you would expect.
We didn’t use the restaurant or the gym, however you could see they were good. It’s not far into town where there a lot of alternatives but not necessarily as good.
Good parking. Secure. Easy to find. A bit of highway noise which we weren’t use to. We would go back
I stayed here for two weeks ends for work. It is easy to find and has open area of car park outside the building. I’d imagine it will get very hot to park in the summer without any sort of shade provided.
I stayed for 4 nights in 3 different rooms. Staff are friendly.
It is a quaint hotel and appears regal on first impression. The lobby and corridors are warm with no air conditioning until I reach my room.
I was given room 116. It is clean, reasonably spacious with a couch. There is a small bar fridge, some cutlery, wardrobe with a safe. There’s a dining table and a separate desk. The bathroom has the standard shower, toilet, vanity and hairdryer. There is sheer and also Blockout curtain for privacy and blocking the light.
The shower was reasonably comfortable, but the sound of the banging pipes was annoying to say the least. Each time I or someone else in adjacent rooms turn on the tap and turned it off, there would be a loud reverberation of the metal pipes within the wall. Tragedy hit when I used the face basin after my shower. Water suddenly gushed out from the pipe under the sink. The bathroom would have been flooded if I had not bent down and turned off the tap under the sink. I contacted the reception and he offered to come and have a look. I asked for a few minutes so I could get dressed but over half an hour later, I had to go down to get him. The gentleman had a look and said that it’s a plumbing problem. He said offered room 118 in exchange. It’s a smaller room without a couch. There is a large spa bath and chandeliers on the ceiling. The decor is rather extravagant but that does not detract from the fact that the metal pipes are extremely loud as people used their taps in the rooms adjacent. Unfortunately, I had very poor sleep because the banging pipes sounded like someone rattling on my front door, though the night and early morning. In addition, because this room is adjacent to the church next door, the choir seeing in the evening was clearly heard for about an hour.
Wi-Fi signal is reasonable throughout the grounds but weak in the room such that it is more often disconnected than connected.
There is a small gym with cardio equipment and a cable machine but appears not to have been used for months or more. There is also an adjacent room that leads to the laundry. Cost of laundry is $8/load load and $3 for detergent. There is also a sauna which also appears not to have been used for a long time. ATM and grand piano is labeled with “out of order” signs. It appears they’ve been out of order for years.
The second weekend I was given room 143, which is in the other wing of the hotel. Again, a compact room. I appreciate having a bar fridge which is slightly bigger than the smallest bar fridge in summer accommodation. The rattling pipes is still present, but Around half the volume, so just manageable. The window this time was the rattling issue, which I managed to address by making some adjustments. again, poor Wi-Fi and usually cannot connect. The biggest issue of this room is poor drainage. Using the shallow sink in the bathroom involves turning it on for five seconds, then turning it off for 30 seconds to wait for it to drain. Same issue in the shower where I had to turn off the water after a few minutes so I did not stand in a puddle. It’s rather unpleasant to see the contents of the sink regurgitating back up each time I used it.
The tennis court, like the gym, looked unused and neglected. There is strong fragrance which permeate the building. Not great if you are sensitive or aware of the toxic effects of artificial fragrances.
Overall, it appears that this accommodation have been flush once upon a time but is now well past its prime and in dire need of maintenance. Not meeting the basic requirements of having a quiet night of sleep and being able to use the shower and the sink without being inconvenienced, is definitely a reason I would not return nor recommend. Hopefully they can look into this and make it once again, a pleasant place to stay.
Everything about this hotel is wonderful. A beautifully presented historic property.
Staff are most welcoming. Nothing is a problem.
Dining and service excellent.
Rooms have everything you need. Can’t wait to return.
The tap attached to the hand basin were covered with water and soap spots.
Staff always welcoming, very easy location and parking. Central. Rooms always comfortable and tidy. Charming little place, have stayed twice and it's a favourite.
I checked in at around just after 2pm yesterday, there was rubbish left in both bins from the previous person who had stayed there, 3 out of 5 light switches didn't even work & even after complaining apparently nothing could be done.
Always love staying hete
I saw lots of negatives reviews for this hotel. However, I was blowen away with the excellent services provided by the hotel staff and hotel itself was in excellent. We enjoyed out whole stay. Firstly, we were greeted by two charming faces on the reception [Hannah and Raven]. Most charming faces. Great help in getting us sorted. We changed the rooms from what we have booked for. They fixed the rooms without any issue. The Manager Atul is also a great gentleman. He personally welcomed us and checked on us daily for our stay and services. Breakfast was great, we could order from hot menu. I would also like to than the morning reception Sakshi, she was also very wonderful. Very great jovial individuals .. feels like staying home. stay blessed :) Would recommend 10/10 for everything.
Room was ok but the bathroom was very smal and the shower flooded the bathroom even with towels on the ground making it very frustrating. Noisy air con. Could hear people talking clearly next room.
Poor outside maintenance. Breakfast choice was very limited
Staff were average.
Overall was average.
The hotel has aged and needs to be renovated. While it is an old building, i could hear people walk around outside and in the room next doors due to the floor creaking.
The room had a variety of different light fixture with several globes out.
The air conditioning remot was broken.
The room was spacous and th3 bed was reasonably comfortable.
There was a restaurant and the food was ok, but limited.
The property was very unique with its age. Definitely looks better on the inside. Cleaning staff were friendly, rooms nice and clean. I would stay there again.
Haunted..
Easy,clean,quiet & restaurant in house.
Spacious room. Quiet.
Pleaseasnt
Great overnight stay. Clean rooms. Comfy bed. Close to where we had to be. Great staff. Easy parking and free
Great overnight stay. Close to where we needed to be. Easy parking.
Upon arrival, the external building and grounds of this former orphanage and historic building are impressive. However, internally it’s a different story - as everything is just a bit old, tired and it even smelled musty.
My room was OK, although the mix of decor was eclectic, and not in a good way! My friend asked to have another room so she could have a balcony to smoke. She was given a smaller room (and effectively downgraded), but the manager would not refund the difference.
We ate in the restaurant, but the meal was average at best. The roast of the day was actually pre-prepared pan fried pieces of pork. My friend’s chicken schnitzel was a dark crumbed lump of dried chook with an inedible limp and undressed salad. She ate the chicken and chips only because she was hungry. Kudos to our wait staff Tabitha who tried hard to make the experience more pleasant.
Overall, it was not of a standard we are used to at Mercure hotels .
