The staff were incredible and very accommodating for us
Novotel York Centre is a superbly-located mid-range hotel with good facilities and friendly, attentive staff. The room was a very good size and it was great to find a proper bath, not just a shower. It's just a 10-minute walk to York City centre.
The bed, although a good size, was a little hard. The TV guide worked only patchily, meaning the digital signal is weak.
Clean, good facilities, good decor.

Late check-in used to 3pm so when got a 7 year old getting irrated and sat in reception for 50 mins waiting for our room to be ready not even a offering of a light complement drink by reception did not make us feel look after so set us up a bit of a negative tone for us

Breakfast -great selection - very tasty. Jack the barman was fantastic - we even bumped into him on his day off and ended up spending some time together which was nice :) - Staff were friendly and welcoming overall. We met a lovely elderly couple who don't stay there but have a seat reserved every day from 3pm at the hotel - nice touch from the hotel.
Facilities looked a lot nicer/bigger in images rather than in real life - we had to walk through reception to access the pool area which was always too crowded - yes we could have changed in that area but way too pokey and crowded. Lack of food choices on the menu, very select and not a lot of option, Not allowed to bring our own snacks to eat at the bar - which in theory is not bad but we were purchasing drinks, but wanted to snack on items which we had leftover from the day. Car Park - way too expensive!
Chill area/lobby intwines with the reception booking in/out and the two become clogged up right near the entrance/exit which then becomes not very chill.

Lovely hotel, perfect for our needs, great staff
Location was very convenient and accessible to York centre
Room was clean and well presented
There was too much noise from the room above us from evening to early hours, this impacted our sleep. Hotel staff tried to be helpful, unfortunately the noise continued throughout the night. This didn’t take away the hotel facilities as these were really good. Struggled to order room service due to QR code not working, when resolved food took an hour to arrive.
