Disappointing Stay – False Advertising & Upset Child
We booked The Crown Hotel specifically because of the swimming pool for my 6-year-old daughter. The hotel clearly states online booking.com that the pool is "All ages welcome 7am till 9pm." To be absolutely sure, we even confirmed at check-in that we could go swimming from 7:00 AM.
However, when we arrived at the pool reception desk at 7:00 AM, we were turned away. We were told that children are not allowed in the pool until 9:00 AM because that time is reserved for "leisure users." This was extremely upsetting for my daughter. To make matters worse, the swimming pool was completely empty while we were standing there.
This isn't hospitality from the heart—this is hospitality with conditions and false advertisement.
We brought this up with the Duty Manager, but they could not explain why the pool was advertised incorrectly. They also had absolutely no ability to correct or address the issue for us. Because we had to check out before 9:00 AM, our visit to this hotel was a complete waste of money.
The central location to all pubs and restaurants
Car park was quite tight to park.

The staff are always so friendly and helpful.
I loved everything about the place, the staff are happy, the place is clean, the room was comfortable and so quiet, the restaurant is well worth a visit, top class food! The coffee shop has lovely coffee, and a side of maltesers.. what a delight. I shall most certainly stay again.

Second time we have stayed here. The pubic rooms were as good as remembered and the staff were excellent. We had a very good dinner and a great breakfast - both of which we had not previously booked and paid for additionally and both good value. Much better parking than last time we came.
Our bedroom was lovely, but the en suite was very dilapidated although very clean and having good toiletries. It needed a complete refreshment. The bath was peeling, the bath panel was in need of replacement, the flooring looked completely worn out and flood damaged. The shower was very old and had no adjustments. There was no slip mat in the bath and that was a big concern. There was also a few spots of black mould on the ceiling.
The food in the hotel was very good and the location was good as so many places to visit within a short distance

Just a lovely place to stay, lots of history. Swimming pool, sauna and steam room a bonus.
Nothing to dislike, we wouldn’t keep going back if there was.
Every where was clean and a nice place as a hotel, bed comfy, room nice.
I booked rooms at this hotel for several colleagues travelling for work. The following morning, they told me they had been disappointed by the way one member of staff treated a colleague.
While the group were having a quiet drink, they were moved to a table in a far corner without any explanation. If their original table was needed, a brief and polite explanation would have been completely understandable. Instead, the way it was handled made them feel unwelcome.
At checkout, the same colleague also felt singled out. When asked about his stay, he replied that it had been very nice, but the response he received was: “Well, we will see, and if there is any damage to your room, it will be charged to the credit card.” This seemed unnecessary, particularly as there had been no suggestion that he or the group had caused any problems.
This is disappointing because we regularly book accommodation in Boroughbridge for two or three colleagues at a time, usually around four times a month. We had hoped to use this hotel more often, but I have since booked returning colleagues into another nearby hotel. Based on this experience, we are unlikely to return.
